Guest ShooterJay Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 Both Shane and Stephanie McMahon are graduates of my program, Boston University's College of Communications. Which basically means we've had the same instructor, and the same introductory 101 course. The one thing that's been drilled into me by this instructor since Day 1 is this: KNOW YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE, OBSERVE THE TRENDS IN YOUR FIELD, AND TAILOR YOUR MESSAGE TO FIT BOTH ACCORDINGLY. Now let's look at the track records of both McMahons. Shane: Widely credited with the invention of the "Attitude" era. Saw that fans were getting tired of the same "clean-cut" babyface vs. "dastardly" heel formula that had been in use since the '80's. Saw the cult success of ECW, and that fans wanted more realistic characters rather than cartoon gimmicks. Pitched idea to Vince, and it lead to the most profitable era in WWF history. Stephanie: Despite the fact that the wrestling fans are virtually all male, as head writer pushed more soap-opera oriented angles. Even though the prevailing trend in independent wrestling is a mixture of highspots and submission wrestling, more "sport" than "entertainment," the majority of free TV programming is backstage segments and interviews. Has a very clear conflict of interest, a major no-no, according to the almighty Dean of COM (my instructor). Currently heading up the least profitable era in WWE history in the past 6-7 years. I'd LOVE to see what her grade was in this class. So who's the primary influence in WWE besides Vince? The one who obviously did not pay too much attention in COM 101. Anyway, collegiate comparisons aside, why in the hell isn't Shane in charge of WWE? Besides the dreaded TEST PUSH~! which we're getting anyway, he'd put the product back on the right track. He's proven to pay attention to the fans want, particularly the smarter Internet audience (He IS the president of New Media, after all). Giving Shane the book would eliminate the HHH influence (conflict of interest), the hormonal influence, and take out the soap opera angles to an extent- in other words, all the stuff that's driving fans away. He wouldn't have to be on camera or anything, just stay backstage. Shane pays attention to the trends, and is the one family member with a decent shot at turning the product around. SAVE US SHANE!
Guest RedJed Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 Stephanie: I'd LOVE to see what her grade was in this class. LOL.........no shit
Guest the pinjockey Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 I think if Shane wanted to be he would be as high as Steph in the booking committee. Hopefully if the company continues to lose money he will realize it is time to speak up and will take a chair at the table.
Guest El Satanico Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 I doubt that it would ever happen. But wouldn't it be funny if Shane at some point after Vince either dies or fully retires actually does try to takeover WWf and Stephanie. If WWe is still in business and Stephanie/HHH are still in power when Vince dies and/or retires Shane could probably get a good number of wrestlers to follow him in a takeover.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 Test would be happy...er..well his Testicles would magically disappear..uh..you know what I mean..
Guest Choken One Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 I really would not be shocked if Stephanie takes over complete control of the company but Shane and Paul recreate ECW and bring in the good ones.
Guest Trivia247 Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 you'd think Shane wouldn't be so corrupted by outside Stimlui like Stephanie did with HHH Then again.. Shane pushed his buddies Steve Blackman & Test in certain ways.
Guest buffybeast Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 It's only human to look out for those you like. It happens all the time in Hollywood.
Guest geniusMoment Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 I know this bad coming from a smark but I have found steph to be tolerable in her role as smackdown gm. In recent weeks see only has one or two skits and the focus seems to be on the wrestlers not her. As a writer, now thats another story. You said she majored in communications. How exactly does that qualify her to become a script writer. Oh I forgot she is a McMahon
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 Yes, I agree, as Smackdown's GM she's been tolerable about 80% of the time. She still leaves something to be desired as a writer though. I can't just erase the memories of the Wrestlemania buildup.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 How about we let NO Mcmahon be in charge, ok? They keep having the desire to be on TV and that ain't right.
Guest Lord of The Curry Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 This Rudo character sounds like some hippie radicalist! BURN HIM!
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 NO! DON'T BURN ME! I didn't say it... It was.. Uh.. Anglesault - go burn Anglesault...
Guest HoffmanHHH Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 I have no problem with Shane being on the air. He's been good in all his roles. As far as him being a wrestler, I dunno, since it might draw some heat from the wrestlers (think I heard that before), but he isn't bad at that either (as far as spots go). While Steph has indeed been more than tolerable on-air as SmackDown GM, that doesn't excuse all of her aforementioned flaws, and it is apparent Shane would be a much better choice to run things (or at least oversee booking) than Steph, ESPECIALLY with Heyman on board, who I think he'd listen to and benefit from a lot more than Steph seems to be.
Guest Goodear Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 When exactly did Shane become this booking genius? I must have missed that.
Guest Choken One Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 I'd hate to imagine that Stephanie is the Creative force of the family...Maybe there is a reason Shane isn't a booker... As long as SHANE winds up with Legit ownership of the company, not Stephanie or HHH or HHH junior....Then I am a peachy keen bitch. Maybe Shane perfers not to run the creative department and rather run the only area that he can't fuck up...New Media.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 Shane is NOT a writer, but he has good ideas on how the general direction of the company should go, so he would make a good owner. Shane doesn't seem to have any great desire to be on TV either. Shane should only wrestle as a heel. When he is, he is a pussy that gets clobbered whenever the face finally catches him. Perfect for when a heel manager has to wrestle. He shouldn't wrestle as a face though, even if he is popular. Only if they want to put the heel over strong for beating the crap out of him.
Guest Trivia247 Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 I agree The Character of Stephanie the GM is alot better than her other TV appearances, she doesn't seem to be using her slutty whiny Shrill voice as often, and she looks quite fetching in her business suits than the slutty rags she was wearing during the DX angle, and the oh so too tight dresses during invasion. only problem is her booking with her Screwbuddy influence. Unless Trish plans on Seducing Shane I doubt there would be too much jerking of the scales if he was booking.
Guest Choken One Posted November 14, 2002 Report Posted November 14, 2002 Well, since Shane is Pussy whipped...I don't see him falling into his father's footsteps. The McMahon's represent the classic american family...Daughter takes after father and Son takes after Mother.
Guest Dangerous A Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 What you should hope for is Shane is nothing like his old man. Seriously, Vince McMahon and Vince Russo's vision for wrestling damn near the same thing. Vinny Mac just has a better feel for what could suit a wrestling show, but not much of a feel. Hopefully if someone like Shane were to take over, he learned to be creative from someone who isn't his dad or Russo.
Guest Anglesault Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 NO! Shane in charge means a Test push. ::Finds GHAST~! in the gutter and tells him that ShooterJay trolled a message board or something. Waits and watches::
Guest Choken One Posted November 15, 2002 Report Posted November 15, 2002 aren't we getting that anyways?
