Guest treble charged Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 I've just noticed that WWE has scheduled WrestleMania on March 30 and Backlash on April 13. They are going to have to have one KILLER card to convince the casual fans (if there are any of those left) to plop down $35 to watch a show only 2 weeks after they spent a fair amount of money (what is it, close to $50, now?) on what is supposed to be the biggest show of the year. Not to mention, they'll only have 2 shows for each brand to build to their respective matches, as they can't really start feuds that will culminate at Backlash before WreslteMania has even happened.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 Hmm...Backlash has always had very little time for buildup. Thats nothing new.
Guest treble charged Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 But 2 weeks? Usually, they give it at least 3, which gives the viewer more time to digest the last one they just saw. I don't think they've ever run 2 PPVs so close together.
Guest wwefan4ever_brethartrulz_18 Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 Hmm...Backlash has always had very little time for buildup. Thats nothing new. That's not true. Every Backlash had 4 weeks of buildup.
Guest midnight_burn Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 With that little time between the PPV's most of the Backlash card will probably be matches from Wrestlemania, but with variations like a stipulation added, or throwing together some contendership matches to build towards Judgment Day, there wouldn't be enough time to build up many new feuds and matches for Backlash.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 Surely they'll change it. It's still not too far off to fix. Now if this oversight were noticed in, say, February or March, then we'd be in deep shit. I think this could possibly be their way of modifying the Pay-Per-View schedule to accomodate the seperate brand shows that they wanted. Either that, or they're scaling back somehow. I mean, three weeks is hardly a blip on a calendar to build for a show, two weeks would be like a heavily hyped Raw or something. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest buffybeast Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 Surely they'll change it. It's still not too far off to fix. Now if this oversight were noticed in, say, February or March, then we'd be in deep shit. I don't think that is true. They have to book those arenas many months in advance. I think it may be difficult if not impossible to keep the same venue and change the date at this point.
Guest caboose Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 I always thought Backlash was a bit of a pointless PPV really. It's too soon after the blowoff to the years biggest PPV, and the name had no relevance to the content in both 2001 and 2002. 2000 was the only great Backlash, the other three have been retardedly lame. So If I had my way I'd cut the show all together. But 2weeks has got to be a joke.
Guest Choken One Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 This is a pretty asaine thing for WWE to do...Maybe it will be a Gimmick PPV or some shit I dunno...Likely a REmatch ppv.
Guest notJames Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 They usually schedule WM and Backlash around Easter Sunday, which will be on 20 April next year. They could have done Backlash on the 27th, but perhaps the venue was already booked by then.
Guest Choken One Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 Then go somewhere else...Go the next town over...
Guest RenegadeX28 Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 ONLY 2 WEEKS!?!? Man, those 2 weeks of programming are going be VERY RUSHED.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 They should cut Backlash all together. Every Backlash has a title match and someone giving up their #1 contendership in a match. Just cause you have to defend those just so the fans will be interested. I think that they should build the Rumble/Mania program for two solid months...no Backlash in between to ruin things. Don't you think the buys would be more if they cut out the Feb ppv? I think more people would order Mania.
Guest notJames Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 Backlash comes after WM. You're thinking of No Way Out.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 Hmm...Backlash has always had very little time for buildup. Thats nothing new. That's not true. Every Backlash had 4 weeks of buildup. This year's Backlash had four weeks. Last year's had only three, and the main event was announced less than two weeks prior to the event.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 SHIT...disregaurd everything I said... Just make it so for No Way Out And nothing good ever happens at Backlash, just rematches mostly.
Guest packwingfn Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 Well Rock-Austin from the first backlash was a good rematch Mainly cus I was there, but I thought it was better than their Wrestlemania match
Guest DJ Jeff Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 Backlash mainly has rematches from Wrestlemania anyways, so it doesn't really need that much of a buildup. Though, since there's only 2 weeks between Wrestlemania 19 and Backlash, they could always build up to some matches that will take place at Backlash only, before Wrestlemania. I mean, don't announce them, but slowly build up to the match.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 Maybe they were planning on doing their "worked-shoot" PPV with Lennox on this date? Since it would be somewhat seperate from regular WWE events, it wouldn't need the usual buildup (since they would have already been building to it).
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 They're gonna have no time to build feuds from WM to Backlash, so they should just dump Backlash and hold WM in late April. With two months of buildup from the last ppv, they'll have more time to develop feuds and probably get more buys for WM.
Guest Brian Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 I like No Way Out, because it should give them a break from running one-on-one matches and throw together a tag match with your top guys, or settle business prior to Mania.
Guest Choken One Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 No way out is irrevelent...It's always #1 contendership matches and nothing matches... do away with the ppv and just have a Super Tuesday deal for WMXIX with 6 man tags.
Guest converge241 Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 they could have the heel win to directly lead into Backlash just like in 2000 or how Rocky showed up with the smokin skull belt right after XV Im all for having a longer buildup to Wrestlemanias btw one should be canceled
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 You guys forgot how little time Backlash got last time. Hunter & Hogan stared down once and talked into a locker room before their show, and that's just about it. Compared to that minor buildup, the excruciatingly painful Taker/Hogan confrontation felt like it took forever. Backlash happened so quickly that WWF didn't even have enough time to fire Scott Hall and put him in a match with Bradshaw. O_o
Guest converge241 Posted November 21, 2002 Report Posted November 21, 2002 the last two years had awful buildup after wmx7 , it was just *bang* two man powertrip is going to fight the brothers of destruction, just because last year they should have dragged out hogans turn and title chase
Guest The Hamburglar Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 Backlash always stands out fondly in my mind because of Backlash 2000. That was just an awesome PPV, second only to Wrestlemania X-7 of those I've seen and possibly equal with No Way Out 2001. Backlash 2000 managed to do the settling of unfinished business without direct rematches.
Guest Slapnuts00 Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 I remember in 2000 Wrestlemania was April 2nd and Backlash was April 30th. Not much time. I was there LIVE in DC for Backlash and it was such an awesome show. Austin returns, Rock wins the belt, Jericho/Benoit for the first time in WWE... good times
Guest The Hollywood Fashion Plate Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 Umm...according to WWE.com, Backlash is to be held April 27th. Here's the official PPV calendar-see for yourselves!
Guest El Satanico Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 Well then hopefully they just continue the angles they built up for WM to Backlash. Sure alot of people would bitch because WM is suppose to be a big PPV that ends all the current angles. However continuing the WM angles into Backlash would be alot better than starting new angles in 2 weeks.
