Guest creativename Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 Clearly, this team blows. And yet they are emblematic of the recent wave of hoss-pushing. The question is, where did this wave of hoss-pushing come from? It has appeared almost out of nowhere, blindsiding the fans of the sport. Yes, hosses have always been protected and pushed beyond what the average fan expects their talent to warrant. However it has been a long time since I remember such thoroughly blatant hoss pushing. The recent hoss pushes have been quite noticeably different from what has gone on in the past. Hosses are now being pushed by WWE with a renewed vigor. Why would Vince do this? The question is even more mystifying than it appears at first glance. For while nearly everyone can tell you this is a god-awful idea (I've even seen an article in a mainstream Canadian newspaper about what a lousy idea this is), Vince himself should be able to tell the same. For while he has always had his infamous "big man fetish", one would expect him to be very well aware of the fact that pushing hosses nearly drove him to bankruptcy only a few years ago. It was the pushes of wrestles such as Mabel, whom nobody was willing to pay to see wrestle, that drove the company to the edge before Austin and Attitude saved it. In fact I believe Gorilla Monsoon is very underrated in all of this, because as President he was really the first to have the philosophy of giving the fans what they wanted. Of course other factors were at play, such as poor storylines, bad gimmicks, and bad character development. But the concept of over-the-top hoss pushing being a good idea seemed to have refuted so thoroughly as to end all debate. And yet, in these dark days for WWE, it appears as though Vince drew the opposite conclusion from history--that only hoss pushing can save his company. Vince is a man very resistant of change, and yet he is changing that which has given him success, to that which has nearly cost him his company in the past. The cynic in all of us thinks that it was only a matter of time before Vince completely lost his mind and put all his faith in hosses; however, this remains a very difficult thing to fathom. The smart-ass response is that you cannot apply logic to WWE; unfortunately, this does appear to be the case. But if anyone does have some theories on what Vince is hoping to accomplish with all of this, I would like to hear them.
Guest Samurai_Goat Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 They want to make Albert a household name, so that when Rey comes back, he can get his hairs plucked out one by one with various tweezers. If Albert wasn’t well known, we might feel sorry for him, which would make Rey a heel.
Guest AndrewTS Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 I posted a topic about this last week. The consensus, and my own personal belief, is that Vince is so senile he thinks it is still the 80's and hosses draw. Remember Hogan vs. Warrior? Andre vs. Hogan? There ya go. Nevermind that Hogan was over due to his charisma, Andre had a great manager and the two were in a good storyline, and that Warrior's intensity won fans over in a day were most of the wrestlers couldn't/didn't wrestle very well.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted December 14, 2002 Report Posted December 14, 2002 Albert, or "A-Train" would be a real badass if he came out to Duke Ellington.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted December 14, 2002 Report Posted December 14, 2002 Remember when Smackdown was "the good show"...way too much Rikishi, Albert, and Demott the last couple weeks, I just can't stand to look at them.
Guest midnight_burn Posted December 14, 2002 Report Posted December 14, 2002 Hosses may turning up everywhere you look on Smackdown right now with Rikishi, Sloth, DeMott and A-Train, but it's only going to get worse when the Undertaker gets back to hog TV time, beat everyone and have some epic feuds with his fellow hosses.

So wait, you're telling me that I must now endure not one, but two shows worth of complaining? Fuck this I'm mad! *Makes long, lenghty post about why TSM has pushed him this far. Boycotts board. Returns the next day to complain about board*
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted December 14, 2002 Report Posted December 14, 2002 Mike Alstott of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is the real A-Train! What's next? Are they going to call Demott, "The Bus?" These two losers along with the Big Show should be on Velocity where they permenantly belong. We need more Mattitude, damn it!
