Guest PhillyDogg Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 When I was watching WCW in 1998 I would of never thought that it had only 2 and half years left until it died. The WWE writers have been doing an awful job for a while now. I thought with the very poor house show attendance and poor ratings would be alarming to Vince, but he still gives the wrestling fans utter crap. I know one thing is that if Vince gives Stephaine the company that is the real kiss of death for the WWE.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 WWE has survived through alot worse than what they are doing now and they had nowhere near the money in the bank they have now. They aren't going anywhere.
Guest Super Pissed Smark Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 I think the reason Vince doesn't care is his big, fat deal with Viacom. Unfortunately this puts him in the same position as WCW was, just another pimple on the ass of a huge media conglomerate, and once their contract expires in a few years I don't think Vince will ever see that kind of money again. So, no, unless one of the companies that own the cable stations buys them up, I don't think the WWE will be able to survive five years. It'll be interesting to see what the terms are when (if?) Smackdown is renewed, that should give us some clues as to what the future may hold for the XFL's big brother.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 Raw is still the highest rated show on TNN and Smackdown is still the highest rated show on UPN. WWE won't get the huge money deal they got before, but they'll still do decent and won't have a problem keeping shows on tv.
Guest AndrewTS Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 Ratings don't matter if attendance and buyrates are shit. WWE pushes workers fans don't want to see. They FIRED JERRY LYNN who is a better albeit smaller version of RVD. They pushed Albert. Keep it up, Vince. You're a billionaire, after all. *smirk* Oh...that was a couple years ago. </bps21>
Guest Super Pissed Smark Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 Nitro was the highest-rated show on TNT when it was cancelled. Though the financial links of the two companies are obviously much different, I still think that WWE needs much higher ratings than low 3's and falling to justify their spot on Viacom's networks.
Guest TheyCallMeMark Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 I can't really see WWE being gone, but I guess you never know.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted December 16, 2002 Report Posted December 16, 2002 Attendance is so low because of the split. Once Vince finally admits it was a mistake, because he didn't actually do what he said he was doing the split for, and ends it then attendance should go back up. Also, Austin coming back should help.
Guest Insanityman Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 I 'pose it could still be here. I mean this is considering that all the backstage bullshit ends we have the stars moving up (Though the holy trinity aren't as young as I think they are). But I think it can come back around. My glass if half full.
Guest dreamer420 Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 It will still be here. The WWF wasn't even drawing 6000 people to their PPV's back in 1995 and 1996. I wouldn't be too worried right now as they have seen much tougher times.
Guest midnight_burn Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 If they keep this rate up probably not, but surely within 5 years someone at the WWE will get their head out of their ass and make an effort to fix things.
Guest teke184 Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 If they continue at this rate for about 2 years, there won't be a WWE anymore. HOWEVER... something will happen that will turn things around as long as there's at least one competent person in the front office (like in 1996 when Jim Ross and Jim Cornette set up some of the things that turned the WWF around including the Austin win at KOTR). It's questionable to tell who THAT might be these days since Johnny Ace screwed up the Matt/Albert situation and Paul Heyman's track record is questionable.
