Say everyone had been used correctly since 2000

I'm tempted to say Austin, Rock, Jericho and Angle. HHH would have eventually burned out after being overpushed in 2000 and would have ended up in a strong midcard position. Undertaker would have been back in the role he was always in. RVD would have been the breakout star of 2001 and Brock Lesnar of 2002. We'd still be getting ready for Booker to break through in 2003, and he'd be right about where he is now. Eddy Guerrero would be nearing there as well too. Benoit wouldn't be the top guy, but he would be among them.

Discuss.

Well with the way Benoit was getting over in 2001 I think if he hadn't been injured then he'd be a top guy.

Austin, Jericho, Benoit, Booker T, Angle, with RVD, maybe Kanyon, Goldust, and Raven as upper mid-carders

In addition to all the ones previously mentioned, I'd throw Rhyno in too. If not for the neck injury that's kept him out for over a year, he'd be a top guy right now.

Anyone who says HHH wouldn't be a top guy is fooling themselves. If HHH had turned face when the fans were clamoring for it in the fall of 2000 and the spring of 2001 he'd be at least at Rock like levels by now. Instead they turned him into the watered down face we had to endure this year.

Let's see, if I had to pick, I'd say.....

Big Show

Booker T.

HHH

Chris Jericho

Rock

Austin

Undertaker

Lesnar

Angle

That's about it. Chris Benoit, no, not really because most of the fantasy booking I see on here for Benoit consists of him being a silent heel that gets over on his "wrestling ability." That's good for upper midcarders, but not main eventers. RVD can't talk so his acrobatics would've died out woth the crowd eventually and he's be in the same spot he's in now. And Eddie, he just doesn't say Main Event. But that's my opinion.

If Austin had stayed face, he would have burnt out by now just like he was starting to in 1999 before he got ran over.

The right thing for Austin was turning heel. They never had a challenger who was built up to challenge him.

HHH doesn't exactly rule the mic.

Benoit works well in those serious, sports-like promos, and that's the way you have to use him. Frankly, I'd like to see more promos like that giving the title some respect. Heck, they could have logically put together a title run in mid-2000 no problem and the fans would have bought it.

Undertaker should really think about retirment by now. He should be out the door by now. He's up there in age, just as Austin would probably considering it by the end of next year.

If people had been treated right, then WWE would not be in this bad of a position right now. Vince let his ego and HGH fuck things up.

Nah, we're talking about logical progression from 2000 here and Benoit's character at that point was already more than a silent heel with wrestling ability. Back then he was the arrogant, ruthlessly sadistic heel who proclaimed himself to be the best technical wrestler on the planet. As always, people quite liked his matches, but it was stuff like putting everyone in the Crossface, bashing people's brains in with chairs and generally being a nasty bastard that got him hugely over as a heel. If they'd stayed with that he would be solid main event material even now.

If the women were used and trained correctly, they would be figting joshi stars by now as a major international inter-promotional feud.

This is a great topic.

Angle would be the absolute undisputed top guy in the business right now.

No doubt in my mind.

given the following assumptions:

trips & benoit still get injured in 2001

austin still turned heel and never walked out

rock is still off making movies

aside from austin, i'd have to say that jericho would be the biggest name right now, cause that man was OVER in 2000. if he'd won the title back in a rematch the week after the phantom switch & given a lengthy feud with triple h (with jericho coming out on top), they would've had an instant top face. they could still do the love triangle with kurt (trips getting insecure because of losing, afraid steph will go for the "winner" in angle), with kurt winning steph and the match at unforgiven & trips eventually getting his revenge at survivor series. benoit would still be at about where he is now: tweener/face who gets to hang with the main event guys, but isn't actually a main event guy.

ANGLE

ROCK

AUSTIN

JERICHO

UNDERTAKER

LESNAR

In no particular order other than Angle at the top.

No, I think what got him over as that sick, sadistic heel was a combination of Shane McMahon as is manager, and Mick Foley basically sucking his dick in an in ring promo that basically told the crowd, "I'm Mick Foley, the king of hardcore! I'm a sadistic bastard! But this guy here, Chris Benoit, he's a sadistic motherfucker! Fear him!" There's no way a guy couldn't get over after that, despite the fact that he nearly killed the promo with his rebuttal. Oh, and he was feuding with The Rock, who at the time could get heel heat on anybody with a pulse.

Benoit's heel run this summer pretty much mimmicked the 2000 one, except that he didn't have Shane, Foley, or Rock to put heel heat on him so he really wasn't that over.

Really? RVD did little to help his cause, the intercontinental title had gone down the gutter, and Benoit wasn't even allowed to feud with RVD. Besides, he was coming off the weak program with Dudley. He wasn't nearly booked as strong. Weak booking won't help.

If things had been done properly, we'd still have an Intercontinental Title, and it would still be an important belt that was almost on par with the World title. That being said, the main event scene would have more room for other guys, since no one -- aside from the mega-stars -- would feel like the IC title-level was beneath them.

So that would leave it like this:

World title contenders

================

Triple H

The Rock

Steve Austin

Undertaker

Angle

Jericho

IC contenders

===========

Lesnar

Benoit

RVD

Booker T

Kane

Edge
