Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted January 2, 2003 What are some of your favorite songs that you usually don't tell a lot of folks that you like? Here are a few of mine: Over The Mountain by Ozzy Osbourne, The rest of the album was pretty bad. Night Train by Guns 'N' Roses Dirty Magic by The Offspring A Flat by Staind
Guest EQ Report post Posted January 2, 2003 Green Day's Warning Album. It's no secret that I'm a huge Green Day fan, but whenever I mention them (and this album sepcifically), I get the "oh, they sold out" bullshit. It just pisses me off, so I don't bother mentioning it anymore really.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted January 2, 2003 I also love Warning. Great solid power-pop and the best stuff they've ever done. It's not too deep, but it's full of great pop songs. Though my love for it's pretty open. I suppose closet favorites include some truly cheesariffic tunes, like "Here I Go Again" and "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." If it starts with a sigh, it deserves to be closeted.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted January 2, 2003 Marilyn Manson, and... that's pretty much it.
Guest spiny norman Report post Posted January 2, 2003 Whitney Houston definitely. I think I've only ever told one person about my love for Didn't We Almost Have It All. Tiffany's I Think We're Alone Now. Great song. I would say any Madonna song, but I've let that out of the closet recently, so it doesn't count. But I'd never admit to her being my fave artist of all-time though.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted January 2, 2003 Michelle Branch Tatu and some Mandy Moore Basically I like some of this chick stuff, I wouldn't go out and buy the cds though
Guest Banky Report post Posted January 2, 2003 Phil Collins - He just fucking rules. Justin Timberlake - He is the most tolerable of the 'boyband' era. No, I don't own his CD - but I'd buy it over much of the shit on the radio nowadays. Blink 182 - They get a bad rap for selling out but they've been making the same music for years. Can be quite funny. Porno For Pyros/Janes Addiction/Perry Farrell - Indeed, it all rules.
Guest godthedog Report post Posted January 2, 2003 i got you all beat: through conditioning by my aunt, i grew to love BARRY MANILOW. cause he writes the songs that make the whole world sing. i have a whole guilty love of 80s easy listening music in general: "smooth operator," "open arms," "sherri," "total eclipse of the heart," "hazard"...it's all good to me if i'm in the right mood for it. in the same vein, i love mariah carey's first album, & like her generic pop stuff pre-"fantasy" where she started trying to be black (cause, as we all know, mariah carey is not really black). let's see, what else...oh, the bobby mcferrin album 'simple pleasures', with "don't worry be happy" on it. he does covers of "suzie q," "drive my car," & "sunshine of your love" that i really dig. Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted January 2, 2003 I also like Blink 182 I really liked Blink after I heard Dude Ranch...then I added 182 onto my e-mail addy and AOL IM... I would take that back, but I've had it so long it's what people know me by. I still like Dude Ranch and Buddah a lot though
Guest EQ Report post Posted January 2, 2003 I also like Mase. Say what you will about him "borrowing" beats or whatever, but the music was good to listen to. I have both of his albums, but I'll admit, I only listened to the second one once all the way through.
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted January 2, 2003 Ratt-Round and Round (Ratt's one and only great song. The rest suck especially Way Cool Jr.*shudders*. Everybody always looks at me funny when I say this) Journey Foreigner Quiet Riot(A lot of people hate Quiet Riot. But they did have the first "metal" album that hit #1 on the Billboard charts. For a very brief time they were the most popular rock band on earth)

Guest notJames Report post Posted January 2, 2003 I've got you all beat: I have Hanson's first album in my car at all times. Checkmate. (BTW, if you can't admit you like "Dancing Queen" by ABBA, you're either lying or a communist.)
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted January 2, 2003 No, that doesn't beat Barry Manilow.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted January 2, 2003 ahem. In my car right now is: Shakira, Michelle Branch, Avril, New Wave hits of the 80s (Safety Dance is the GREATEST SONG EVER RECORDED), and the GNR albums. In my room the CD Player holds: Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell (the first one), Air Supply's greatest hits (that's right. I make love out of nothing at all), then greatest hits of the Doors and Stones. Here's the kicker. Someone stole my Ultimate Manilow CD. Bastards.
Guest notJames Report post Posted January 2, 2003 I don't know... Manilow is classic enough to be respected by both songwriters and music lovers. The cheese factor of Hanson is pretty significant, considering they're more recent and often confused for girls. I know many people who like Manilow and almost none who like Hanson. Nevertheless, "Weekend in New England" is probably my favourite Manilow tune. BTW, bps's choices aren't all that cringe-inducing. Lots of people like Michelle Branch and Meat Loaf. Even Air Supply. Shit, I think you stole my older sister's CD collection. And if you grew up in the '80s, how could you not like New Wave? Although I would pick "Come On Eileen" over "Safety Dance". Guest Kibagami Report post Posted January 2, 2003 I don't know... Manilow is classic enough to be respected by both songwriters and music lovers. Uh...people respect him? No, no, no. It's wrong, I tell you, it's all wrong! Eh, as far as guilty pleasures go, mine is definitely Counting Crows. I've never met anyone who likes these guys (some people haven't even heard of them, though their singles get a decent amount of radio play -- "'Mr. Jones'? Never heard of it."), but I love Duritz's songwriting, and the music's perfect for aimlessly driving around on a Sunday afternoon. K.
Guest Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Report post Posted January 2, 2003 We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind. Cuz your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance well they're no friends of mine.... good stuff. I guess I will just say I have a special place in my heart for the new wave and pop rock of the 80's since that is what I was raised on.
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted January 2, 2003 Jackson 5 I wouldn't be ashamed of, because although over the years Michael Jackson has become a twisted weirdo he was unbelievably talented as a 9 year old. For the record, I'm not ashamed of Ol' Avatar Andy at all. But you knew that. I have 'LD 50' by MUDVAYNE for chissakes, and whilst it goes on for longer than should be allowed by law i quite like a few of the songs. I think the terrible vocals are what drags them down. The guy just sounds like a cock, but some of the music's alright.

Guest R2DFooster McSockman Report post Posted January 2, 2003 Silverchair - sure, their music is entirely derivative of certain other bands, but with some songs they manage to steal some good stuff without making it look too obvious. Shakira - uh. Shut up.

Guest Kinetic Report post Posted January 2, 2003 I honestly don't know anyone who respects Barry Manilow. Maybe my grandmother. I will admit, in this forum and nowhere else, to being somewhat fond of Rod Stewart's "Maggie May." Everything else he's recorded has been garbage and acknowledging his existence is enough to get you killed in some districts, but I do enjoy that song. I'm also a big fan of Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U" and I own both of Fiona Apple's albums. This is one instance in which I'm more than happy to come out on the losing end of a thread; at least I don't have any Barry Manilow or Neil Diamond skeletons in my closet. B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2003 I hold nothing back when it comes to my music. I'm all over the board, and I dont' give a shit when people tell me a band I like sucks. I do get alot of shit when I tell people that Prince is a genius and that I still enjoy INXS.
Guest welshjerichomark Report post Posted January 2, 2003 steps, for anyone whos doesn't know, they are (or were) a five piece band who sang the best party songs EVER, their cover of the bee gee's tradgedy is in the same league as dancing queen.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted January 2, 2003 Well, I am usually not ashamed to admit that I like some kinds of music a lot. I am not ashamed to admit that I owe albums from such singers as Britney Spears, Ricky Martin, Marilyn Manson, No Secrets, and Geri Halliwell. Hell, I have gladly listened to music that made others look me in the eye and question my sanity, but, alas, I have never truly been able to admit that...yes...I like a few Limp Bizkit songs. Not enough to actually buy a Limp Bizkit album, but it is hard for me to admit to others that I enjoy like 2 or 3 Limp Bizkit songs. There are just some things that even I am ashamed of, and listening to Limp Bizkit is one of them.
