Guest NoCalMike Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 I wish the match was longer of course, but what we got ROCKED.....90% of the roster can take a lesson from watching that match. The mat work, the working of the arm, the selling of the arm, the well-timed sports...the "psychology" of the match. Maybe it was because they are so familiar with each other. thoughts?

The mat work, the working of the arm, the selling of the arm, the well-timed sports...the "psychology" of the match. Maybe it was because they are so familiar with each other. thoughts? I personally loved the match, as I'm a huge fan of both. My only "beef" with this match, and many Guido matches, is this... ...I love how he works over on the arm the entire match, he focuses on it and keeps it in target, leading up to his finisher. We know what he'll be going for, so it keeps us on the edge of our seat, just waiting for that one move we know what's coming (maybe not edge of our seat, but you know what I mean). This is all great, but there is one thing I wish he would change. When he does the arm breaker, as soon as he hits the mat with it, I wish that he would do a "flot over" while still holding on to the arm, pulling back on it as an arm bar submission. I love the move, but feel it would be a much cleaner and smoother finish if he linked the move into a an arm bar submission, it would simply be sweet as hell. Like I said, I like it, but feel this would be better. I just don't get the entire thing of working over on the arm, leading to that move, and then just pinning him, when the arm wouldn't really keep anyone from kicking out, but a submission there linked with his move would work beautifully. I don't know if any of you see what I'm talking about, so if you don't, I'll try to explain a bit more.
Guest Brian Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 Tajiri copuld have sold better and it looked akward at times, but it was good for what it was.
Guest EricMM Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 I agree, that match would have been twice as good if Nunzio/Guido/whateva hit his armbuster finisher and rolled over into another armbar like the one he had gone for earlier. Secondly Tajiri's selling wasn't as good as it could have been, particularly when he used the target arm to pick up Nunzio for that spinny thing (which I cannot for the life of me name) Still was an awsome match, and here's hoping for a FUED!!! Not forgotten. I kinda wish we could have Noble/Nunzio vs. Tajiri/Funaki. I think that would be an excellent fued. (shrug)
Guest Goodear Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 I actually like the idea of all that arm work leading to a pinfall as something different from the usual submission tries. But I think to make it work, Nunzio should hook the arm underneath his opponents body while going for the cover to explain why they aren't kicking out.
Guest Zack Malibu Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 I think they should find a partner for Tajiri and go for a full out tag feud. The Tajiri/Mikey Whipwreck vs. FBI matches were some of the best of the last 2 years of ECW, and Knoble is ten times the worker that Tony Mamaluke is, so it would make for awesome matches. Also, kind of off-topic, but I'd love to see Noble/Nunzio vs. Los Guerreros for the belts in the future.
Guest Lord of The Curry Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 The Good: The finish of the match fit in well with Nunzio's arm work throughout the whole match. The Bad: Tajiris selling was a bit off sometimes, plus, wouldn't it have made more sense match-wise for Nunzio to work the legs?
Guest Goodear Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 Way I figure it was that Nunzio was attacking Tajiri's weaker limbs and hoping for an easier submission that way. That's the kayfabe reason why most North American wrestlers go after the left arm instead of the one that is going to be hitting them more often.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 It seems kind of goofy to me to have a finisher that attacks the arm. It dissables one shoulder, but the other one is left free to pop up. I thought the match was pretty spotty overall. I was never that big a fan of their matches in ECW, though, so I probably shouldn't have expected much.

Can someone please try to explain why you feel it's even OK for him to go for the pin after having a submissino based match the entire time?
Guest saturnmark4life Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 well, on an undercard smackdown match i'm not gonna bitch about minor flaws like that. I mean come on, you can't ask for all that in every 5 minute match. Especially given the current state of affairs.
Guest HHHater Posted January 17, 2003 Report Posted January 17, 2003 I love Tajiri but I've never been a big fan of Nunzio. I call him "Mini-Regal".

IN their current state, they should be trying to really make everything as good as they can. It's just one of those things that I noticed, and can hurt a match in my eyes. It seems WWE has forgotten how to tell a story in the ring, for the most part.
