Guest BoboBrazil Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 A week ago, I wrote the Rock was turning heel, wrestling Hogan at No Way Out, Goldberg at Wrestle Mania and then quitting wrestling after Mania. Within that week, I have had other wrestling journalists and experts trying to prove me wrong by saying none of what I wrote in my article was true, or that it was just hearsay. Well, the week is up and three out of four of my items have already been proven true, with the exception of Goldberg. Some have said that negotiations are not final between Goldberg and WWE. What I can tell you is what I witnessed firsthand. You see, I was there when Goldberg walked on set and met with Rock. So what I report to you now is what I saw and heard myself. I'll tell you what happened that day on set and I will tell you what happens at No Way Out and Mania. How? From the Rock's mouth, that's how! The Rock seems to be at a point right now where his future is set and he can say what he likes without fear of repercussion. He has projects lined up and a bank account that will last him a long while. With that said, let's take you back to Monday, January 19th when Goldberg walked onto the movie set. Goldberg walks on set looking like a biker, bald head, sunglasses, big jacket and he towers over everybody. He goes up to Rock, who is looking down at his script, taps him and says, "I'm here". Rock was a bit surprised, but you could see he was expecting him. Rock told Goldberg he would be with him in a minute. Goldberg ends up walking to a back room and waits about four minutes before Rock walks in after him. Now, while this is going on, it costs fifty thousand dollars a day to rent out the club they are shooting in, plus paying two hundred extras salaries. That all kind of adds up. So somebody is paying top dollar while these two guys are having a meeting. Call Timberlee at payroll, if you don't believe me. At the time, I couldn't hear what they were saying, but I could see what was going on. Goldberg was doing most of the talking while Rock, who looked like the most powerful man on set until Goldberg arrived, just listened. The most noticeable thing that I saw came from Rock shaking his head "no" and then shaking Goldberg's hand goodbye. Goldberg walks out looking the way he did when he walked in, all business. On the way out of the room, a makeup person asked Rock, "What was that all about?" Rock simply said, "He wanted to know if I would really do the job. I said yeah." So people, Goldberg came to set to see if Rock would lose to him at WrestleMania and Rock said yes. I guess Goldberg had to see and hear it first hand. Later on that day, I overheard Rock talking to his cousin Tonawhy, (I apologize for the spelling), who Rock choke slams through a table at the beginning of the movie. He said it's on at No Way Out. "I beat Hogan, lose to Goldberg at WrestleMania and then I'm out." From there Hogan/Goldberg resume their feud. The good thing about Rock is he always takes time for his fans. Rock took a moment to take a picture with these extra's, Migo, ShowStopper and Jack Benza. This was after Rock met with Goldberg and got his BUTT whooped by some football players on the set. The photo was taken after the movie was a rap. 1wrestling.com
Guest BorneAgain Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 So instead of putting over Smackdown talent like Edge or Benoit, Rock is instead going to wrestle an egotistical, self-serving, jackass who thinks he's above wrestling and hasn't been on American TV in over two years. Glad to see Vince is using his head.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 He has been in a ring. He has been wrestling in New Japan.
Guest Eagan469 Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 *starts the chant* Goldberg! Goldberg!.........
Guest BorneAgain Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 He has been in a ring. He has been wrestling in New Japan. how extensively?
Guest BoboBrazil Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 It has only been a few matches, but he didn't look bad. I saw one of them. He looks the same as he did in WCW.
Guest BorneAgain Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 He looks the same as he did in WCW. Can't say that gives me much hope.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Who wrote this? Is it a reliable source?
Guest IB2BLACK Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Is this dude, the police on an undercover stakeout, or something. Damn he's nosy, like a girl. Eavesdropping on someone else's conversation.
Guest Eagan469 Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 BoboBrazil - what was the source?
Guest IB2BLACK Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 I saw it on 1wrestling, it's seems legit.
Guest The Superstar Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 This is obviously fake, in the picture, the Rock has hair. He's been bald for a while now, right?
Guest evenflowDDT Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 This is obviously fake, in the picture, the Rock has hair. He's been bald for a while now, right? Yea, or that Kid N Play haircut. The fact that there's no author and the story seems "too good" caused my B.S. sense to tingle from the first paragraph. EDIT: Jake T. Icon? Who dat?
Guest Anglesault Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 He only wants to feud with Gopldberg, no one else, for some reason, right? I Hope Goldy gives him the Mighty Concussion Kick.
Guest Eagan469 Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 alright, this "Jake T. Icon" guy also wrote the following article, which appears to be the souce of all the "Rock's retiring after Mania" rumors: "Huge News: The Rock Quitting WWE After WM19 Talk about Huge News: The Rock Quitting WWE After WM19 on Impact Fan Forum Impact Reporter: Ryan Clark Email: [email protected] 1/25/03 The Three Count By Jake T. Icon An interview with the Rock I was just an extra on the set of Rocks latest movie Helldorado and within those five days I was there, I got news that will Rock the wrestling world. Day one, I got to have lunch with The Rock and Arnold Schwarzenegger Day two, had two guys with guns walk on set and got arrested. Day three, I find out Rock bought the name the Rock and now can use it without Vince McMahon. Day Four, Goldberg walks on set. Day Five, I get my interview and find out that the Rock is returning to wrestling as a heel, wrestling Hogan at No Way Out, wrestling Goldberg at WrestleMania and after that he is QUITTING WRESTLING FOR GOOD to pursue a movie career. Thats the news, want the story, read on. Two months ago, I wrote an article about Rocks behavior on set, saying that he went Hollywood. I would like to go on record as saying, maybe he did, but the guy I met this month was one of the most humble men I have ever met. It was day one and the shoot took place at Club Ivar in Hollywood. This scene was to be the beginning of the movie where Rock comes into the club as a character named Beck, a bounty hunter, to collect a one hundred thousand dollar debt from a quarterback that is celebrating his Super Bowl win with six other big football players. Rock ends up taking the Super Bowl ring off the quarterback as collateral and ends up kicking ass. On his way through the club he bumps in to Arnold who ends up doing a small cameo, because Rock does a small cameo in T-3. Its kind of like a passing of the torch, very similar to John Travolta bumping into Stallone in the movie Staying Alive. Anyway, when these guys had lunch, Rock ate a Caesars salad out of a bowl you usually serve it out of and a steak. He always ate healthy and that is hard on these sets when craft services serve steak on one end and Snicker bars on the other. The guy in the picture, whom we will call Showstopper, was just an extra and approached Rock about a script his buddy wrote based on the video game, Spy Hunter. Now usually when extras do this they get kicked off set. Instead Rock heard him out and insisted on seeing the script. Security there was so loose, that the guy who wrote the Spy Hunter script was able to get on set, hand it to Showstopper who in turn handed it to Rock. Rock read it that night and the next day returned the script to Showstopper requesting that he send it to Rocks agent for legal purposes. Rock made that kids day and luckily I was able to snap a shot with the two together. Day two, was the same club scene. However two guys who looked like hoods walked right on set and started harassing one of the extras. Mind you, there are about two hundred extras on set. It seemed the extra that was being threatened owed some money to these guys. There were cops on set already and they ended up escorting these guys out. As they did this, the cops found that each guy had a gun on them and they were arrested immediately. Since that moment, anybody that looked suspicious or that had a camera on them had it taken away and security became tighter. Peter Berg, the director, was fuming. Day three, everybody couldnt stop talking about the Rock. This guy was a star. The way he handled himself on set was all professional. Everybody on that set had a story about him. One that intrigued me was the fact that Rock went out of his way to buy out Vince McMahon for the use of the name The Rock. So expect Vince McMahon not to get an executive producer credit next Rock flick. Day Four, Goldberg walked right on set, bald head, sunglasses and a big biker outfit. He went right up to the Rock, who was reading his script. Rock was looking down and Goldberg, who towered over everybody in the room, tapped him in the chest and said, Im here! The way he said it, it sounded better then his old quotes, Im back or Whos next?! Rock laughed, and said Ill be right there. Rock walked out a minute later had a five minute meeting with Goldberg in the back room. After five, Goldberg left. This made me think, Why the hell is he there and I know something the wrestling world doesnt. It was day five and everybody was used to one another. Theres a lot of sitting around on these sets because the director and crew have to set up the next shot. I noticed that the Rock would only talk to people who used wrestling terminology, not people who said, I loved you in Scorpion King or I smell what youre cooking! When our boy in the picture, ShowStopper, went up to Rock and said, when are you turning heel and Rock responded, As soon as I get back, I knew that was the in to get my story. So a group of people asked him questions, and I was one of them. Rock said he doesnt mind jobbing to people to get them over. He said there are current people in the business that wont do that, and that is a problem. Rock went on to say hes back for two pay-per-views. At No Way Out hes going to fight Hogan again, but this time as a heel. This will lead to a Hogan/Vince match at Wrestlemania when Vince sides with his new star, The Rock. I actually pitched the idea to Rock to call himself Holly Rock, but we will see how that turns out. Hogan will bring in Goldberg and there is your WrestleMania dream match. Rock said after that he is doing the Hollywood thing and leaving wrestling until Hollywood doesnt want the Rock. From there, Hogan and Goldberg will have their much deserved rematch.. Rock finished by saying he misses the ring, But I feel that Hollywood is my next challenge." Moral of the story - this guy's a giant douche Jake T. Icon
Guest The Superstar Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 ...and why would Rock spoil the plans of Wrestlemania to a makeup person?
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 This is the same guy that started the Rock retirement rumors last week. Why in living fuck is Rock going to job to a guy who's heading back in the indies after two months? That's wasting McMahon's biggest potential moneymaker (and don't hand me that Austin shit. Yeah, I know he sold a lot of merch, but Rock appeals to a larger group of fans than Austin) on a guy that's probably only going to tour Japan a couple times for the forseeable future since he overvalues himself so much. WHAT IN THE FUCK IS THE POINT OF THAT? It's almost like Vince is a lamb being led to slaughter here. Yo, McMahon! Don't let your top star job to a guy who's only going to appear on less than a dozen shows!
Guest BoboBrazil Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Everyone doubted this guy last time including me, but everyone confirmed what he said in his story including Meltzer and Sherer.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 The latest Observer contradicts it.
Guest Eagan469 Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 After doing some research... Jake T. Icon writes for Georgiann Makropoulos' "Chatterbox" newsletter anyone know if "Chatterbox" is a credible source for info?
Guest creativename Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 The main reason that I discounted this guys story was that the pictures in the original story seemed clearly Photoshopped. Rock was in the exact same pose in both of them. However, the picture shown here would be almost impossible to do in Photoshop without it being blatantly obvious. Also, the Rock-Hogan thing--which no one was reporting, or even speculating on--has already proven to be true. So this certainly makes it appear as though the story was in fact quite legit. However, that doesn't mean Rock-Goldberg is set. As well all know the latest news has it that the Goldberg negotiations are faltering and they're thinking of Rock-Austin again. So that leaves the other point of the story--is the Rock really considering retirement? Even if he is though, I think we can all expect him back eventually anyway. 1) The reaction of a live crowd is addictive, and you can't get that filming a movie. 2) Helldorado is displaying all the signs of being a flop. It has a $100 million budget, and it's difficult to see this kind of movie making enough for the studio ro recoup that + marketing costs, which should run at least $25 mil.
Guest Brian Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Rock really wants it, but both the Torch and Observer say talks are falling apart because the WWE wants more of a schedule.
Guest Trivia247 Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Rock said after Austin went home that the WWE is his Home....Uh Huh thats why he plans on quitting after Wrestlemania. Rock gonna try to be the next Big thing as a Crappy Movie actor. and will try to forget his roots. only one who successfuly in the states made a Full Mainstream transfer from wrestler to Celebrity etc was Ventura. And thats because he came with decade of credibility before wrestling. But I suppose Rock is doing good by the business by guaranteeing Crapberg taking Rock's Place in the WWE. He Sells his soul and leaves wrestling to deliever to Vince the one guy who spent years sitting at home and bashing the WWF and WWE while going to Japan and Trashing Wrestlers and their reps like they were toys... Billy Goldberg. if the Ratings doesnt go up past the surprise Blip then I'll go back on my strike and focus on other stuff that won't get me a decent job in life, and thats D&D LOL
Guest IB2BLACK Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Why can't The rock be successful in films? You don't need to know how to act, all you need to have is a look, and The Rock has it. What seperates him from Vin Deisel, Colin Farrell, Ben Affleck or other guys are make bad movies, but make a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$.
Guest Trivia247 Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Why can't The rock be successful in films? You don't need to know how to act, all you need to have is a look, and The Rock has it. What seperates him from Vin Deisel, Colin Farrell, Ben Affleck or other guys are make bad movies, but make a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$. I'll give you Vin Diesel but the others... nahh Rock has the same problem in Acting like Arnald does... You get rich and famous doing All Action stuff and you arent really acting your playing the same character in different roles.. What was the differences between Conan and his Character in Red Sonja? none Commando, Terminator, Red Heat, Predator... none... True Lies, Eraser, Colladeral Damage, 6th day??? his departures from action like doing Twins was much successful. to be a actor you have to take the departure from what your good at once n a while or what your comfortable being.
Guest IB2BLACK Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 I understand your point. But I'm sure Arnold has made over a $200 million doing what he does. I read he's getting like $30 million for Terminator 3. To me, that's what it's all about. Sure he's not going to be in any Oscar winning flicks, but hey at least he's working, and making lots of $$$$$$. Not every one can be Tom Hanks.
Guest NoSelfWorth Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Goldberg has been wrestling for All Japan, not New Japan.
Guest The Hamburglar Posted February 2, 2003 Report Posted February 2, 2003 Maybe Rock wants to feud with and beat Goldberg to avoid jobbing to Austin at Wrestlemania for the third time running. Put like that, it doesn't seem so unreasonable...
Guest Brian Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 No, it's because the Rock's playing politics and now that he has a firm footing in Hollywood and has pushed his image past wrestling, he can demand any feud he wants. Notice how Hogan came back and Goldberg negotiations kicked up in the last month.
