Guest Dillon Likes Bossman Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Yes, we're all aware of the HHH effect, the horrible writting, and the poor announcing. But one of my biggest gripes with the show is the set. It dosen't look like a wrestling set, it looks all pinkish and sunset like. When I see it I am not in the mood for wrestling. Also the opening song and video package is kind of weak. Is it just me or what?
Guest wrestlingfanatic Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 I liked the old set from 98 better. The new set does not annoy me though.
Guest Angle-plex Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 I agree. The new set sucks. They should get a new one, althought they'll probably keep the current one for a few more years. The RAW logo sucks as well. Maybe it's just me, but I would really like them to go back to the red/white/blue ropes as well. Red has been RAW's color for to many years now, and I think maybe a change in the ring ropes might freshen things up. None of these things will be done, but oh well.
Guest IB2BLACK Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 They've been using the set for about a year, ever since the split.
Guest Dillon Likes Bossman Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Ring ropes would be a nice touch....but with budget cutbacks I doubt any of this would get done.
Guest Mad Dog Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 They should do something similar to the original Nitro set. Now that set kicked ass.
Guest razazteca Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 waisting money on a new set or graphics is just insane when that is just a cosmetic cure for a deep wound. I am not in the mood for wrestling the announcing does that to me
Guest the 1inch punch Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 They should do something similar to the original Nitro set. Now that set kicked ass. Yeah but it had no Titantron
Guest Mad Dog Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 It had one to the side of the set. It just wasn't overly visable on tv. I good one could easily be added to the side.
Guest Mikazuki Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 I miss the mid-90's Nitro set. That was the best. Does anyone else hate the ramps and wish the wrestlers would just walk on the floor again? The ramps look cheesy, and you can barely see what the fans are doing.
Guest Caliban Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 My only gripes with the set are those lightning bolts, or whatever they are supposed to be, and around the bottom Trons on the ramp, it justs like silver foil. Just looks cheap and nasty.
Guest Jack Tunney Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 RAW just bores me to death these days.I actually miss 1999 WWF.It may have sucked too,but at least it was somewhat interesting.
Guest T®ITEC Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 They probably still have the '96 set sitting around. Nothing wrong with that thing; it even had a TitanTron. Did the old Nitro set come with the purchase of WCW? Maybe they should bust that out again. I *loved* that set.
Guest wwF1587 Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 RAW just bores me to death these days.I actually miss 1999 WWF.It may have sucked too,but at least it was somewhat interesting. i agree... any of the earlier years 00 or before would be wonderful now...
Guest RepoMan Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 I'd change the SD set before Raw, but they're both really ghey.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Complaining about the set doesn't do anything to help the wrestling. I mean, at all. I kind of miss the black ropes they were using for a little bit, but that's not a big deal. The actual set? Bah, who cares? It looks VERY plastic-y in person, comes off okay on TV. Those things on the side could stand to go away. And the computer graphics and whatnot don't bother me. In fact, they remind me of late Nitro.
Guest Dillon Likes Bossman Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Yea, I know that all this stuff won't make the writing work, or get rid of shitty workers but the look is something that needs a change up.
Guest eiker_ir Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 my favorite Raw one was the lastest version before the current. With sidetrons, classic titantron, etc. the current one is okay, but they could've done better
Guest Frankie Williams Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 They probably still have the '96 set sitting around. Nothing wrong with that thing; it even had a TitanTron. Did the old Nitro set come with the purchase of WCW? Maybe they should bust that out again. I *loved* that set. Raw had no set in 1996. It came about in March of 97. Just nitpicking.
Guest mickberna Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 I don't like the Raw set. Why? I just don't like parallelograms, that's why. And the "smashed-up things" on the side look awful. Course, the Smackdown fist is a million times worse. Ugh. Anyway, sets are important, whether you think so or not. A set adds to the atmosphere, just like anything else. That's why in 1998 when the set was basically the Tron and nothing else, the fans could get more involved with the stuff going on in the ring. The more bare-bones the atmosphere, the more focused an audience is on the show. WWE is all glitz and very little substance. It's all done for TV purposes, not for the live crowd. They need to get a clue. Tone down the distractions, WWE. Your fans are mostly idiots who are attracted to bright, shiny things.
Guest eiker_ir Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Raw did have a set in 96, it was the big RAW letters, no ramp or titantron
Guest Frankie Williams Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Raw did have a set in 96, it was the big RAW letters, no ramp or titantron Sorry. I didnt know you were talking about that.
Guest JMTapes Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 FUCK the Titantron. They need to get away from the whole Tron/ramp/sraight aisleway bulshit they've had for six years. The "new" set that they debuted in March is just the same damn thing. Time for a change. -JM
Guest Choken One Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 I can't stand Smackdown...It's too damn bright and it's fucking annoying.... I say strip down the Ramp...Have a simple Titantron with "RAW" on top of it...and keep it at that...
Guest bradolson Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 I like the simple design they used at MSG for Survivor Series this past year with the entrance facing the main camera and those cool video doors that opened up. But that would be too difficult to implement at every arena.
Guest Choken One Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Right...MSG is an amazingly designed Arena...Not many places have Exit style enterances... They have have the MSG style enterances before but that was pre Tron days...now THEY NEED TO HAVE TRONS...
Guest El Satanico Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 It's a stage, a ramp and a screen...who gives a shit what it looks like. A new look isn't going to make Raw better and it won't help a damn thing. The only reason you notice it enough to annoy you is because Raw is so god awful you end up focusing on everything except the show.
Guest treble charged Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Every PPV at MSG has that same basic set-up, though. It's part of it's 'charm', I guess.
Guest Choken One Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Hey remember When they did The Trump Plazza? They walked down about 100 steps...BRING THAT FUCKING Set-up back!
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Personally I love having the big ramp. It's especially effective when guys are cutting promos on each other with some in the ring and some at the ramp entrance. And there is no way they should use a WCW style set.
