Guest NoSelfWorth Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Early estimates have the Royal Rumble buy rate at around 400,000. Credit - PWTorch.
Guest tpww7 Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 What is the average buys for a WWE PPV?
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 If it's good; thank Lesnar who was the entire focus of the build. Angle/Benoit was treated like a side attraction.
Guest Brian Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Right now, probably around 250,000 I think.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Pretty good for such a predictable show
Guest bob_barron Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 So what is that in terms of percentage? Looks like Steiner will be around for a little while. Cause much of the focus of the RR was Triple H v. Scott Steiner
Guest tpww7 Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Vince will think this is all because of that ***** Steiner- H match and continue the Steiner- H program till April.
Guest bob_barron Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Well to be fair- Much of the hype of the show WAS for Triple H v. Steiner
Guest caboose Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Doesn't the Royal Rumble get a bigger buyrate every year in comparison to other PPV's anyway? In which case the buy rate may be as standard.
Guest CanadianChick Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Doesn't Royal Rumble usually have one of the highest buyrates though? I know I get excited for Royal Rumble just for the Royal Rumble. The actual match itself deserves a lot of credit too.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 100,000 of those buys were for the Rumble match itself, which Lesnar was the focus of and which Lesnar won. I'd say these were the main factors in drawing the large buyrate: 1. Lesnar/Heyman saga 2. HHH/Steiner 3. Angle/Benoit 4. Y2J/HBK 5. Undertaker return
Guest CanadianChick Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 100,000 of those buys were for the Rumble match itself, which Lesnar was the focus of and which Lesnar won. I love how you state that as fact. Anyways, I think people buy the PPV for the actual match, not the people in it. And you can't say that people bought the Rumble for Brock if they didn't even know for sure that he was in the Rumble.
Guest The Tino Standard Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I'll be curious to see what No Way Out does in terms of PPV buys. You've got the PPV returns of Austin, Rock AND Hogan all in one show. This show is normally a sacrificial lamb and there really isn't a single actual match that I can't wait to see, but nonetheless, I can see this month drawing some serious bank.
Guest Mad Dog Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 The Rumble always gets more buys b/c it's the Rumble. But that sounds like a horrible number as this show used to draw 2 or 3 times those numbers.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 400,000 buys translates to about a 1.0 buyrate. Last year's show did a 1.6.
Guest bob_barron Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Anyone know the buyrates of other PPVs?
Guest Mad Dog Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 They never release the numbers of bad PPVs. A good guess for the non showcase shows would probably be in the range of 0.3-0.6
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Email Meltzer for estimates. Aside from this number for RR 2003, the last estimate I heard about was KOTR 2002, which was around a sad 0.6. Judgment Day did around a 0.7 and Backlash did a 0.8 (this number is confirmed).
Guest Caliban Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Those numbers are comparable to 1998 levels.
Guest Retro Rob Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I thought the WWE stopped releasing the number of buys their PPVs got.
Guest MaxPower27 Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I thought that they HAD to release them because they are a public company.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 100,000 of those buys were for the Rumble match itself, which Lesnar was the focus of and which Lesnar won. Says?

CC, I never thought you were bright per se but let's see if you can define "forgone conclusion.". Oh yes, Big Show was going over, they really had everyone fooled, didn't they? Oh and I said that quite definitivly because the Rumble match itself always draws a significant constituency of people.
Guest Brian Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 There's a large portion that tunes in just for the rumble, whichis to be expected. This time of the year is really the time where people start tuning in again and hopefully they can capitalize on that.
Guest teke184 Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Mullato Heat is dead on. Meltzer will occasionally post estimates for PPVs but, if asked, will provide numbers on buyrates that were less than spectacular. That's where the last set of numbers came from that were in the .6-.7 range.

Don't argue with personal attacks. 2) It wasn't a "foregone conclusion" to marks (who are the main people buying the ppvs) that Brock was going to win. Show was built up very well, and it seemed quite plausable that he could of won, especially with Paul Heyman in his corner. 3) It's fine to be confident about thinking that 100 000 people bought the ppv just for the Rumble, but presenting it as fact can be misleading.
Guest humongous2002 Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 The focus of this ppv was that awful HHH/Steiner feud, people believed too much in the hype thinking that big steroided body equals great worker.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Yeah.......everyone bought the PPV just for Brock......I know that's what me and my friends bought it for......
