Guest Super Pissed Smark Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Looking at it again, that Rock-Austin confrontation was pretty dull and just kind of meandered around without anybody saying anything particularly entertaining. I don't think it was helped by portraying Rocky as a coward and having Austin keep cutting him off and challenging him to come down to the ring. Contrast with the Rock-Hurricane stuff which, while not as funny as it was two weeks ago, was still pretty good. Now I'm guessing that the backstage stuff was probably at least loosely worked out before hand, maybe even completely scripted, probably with the input of that writer guy nobody likes. But I wonder if the Austin-Rock stuff isn't the first example of Austin not wanting to have anything written for the wrestlers, leaving them to just make stuff up on their own, to develop their own characters. While that sounded good at first, from what I saw of it last night, I'm not loving it. If Austin can't make stuff up live and be entertaining with the Rock, and barring an unlikely return of Mick Foley, there doesn't seem to be anybody else on the roster who can just go out there and wing it in an entertaining fashion. While I guess Rock-Austin pretty much sells itself, it would be nice for them to get in a compelling promo before their match, but from what I saw last night I'm not sure we're going to get one.
Guest Brian Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Well, austin used to write most of his own stuff with bullets and it was very good.
Guest teke184 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 I think Austin's intentions are good as he just wants the booking committee to tell them what they want to get across and let the wrestlers think of what to say. Considering that most of the wrestlers probably have a better idea of how to get stuff over than the writers, this should be good. There ARE exceptions, though, and I'm sure they included Trips and Undertaker, which is why they scipts EVERYONE's interviews. (For those who think that I'm just picking on them, you're right in a way... however, a LOT of what Taker said for himself was the usual "Rest... In... Peace" stuff while Trips was only capable of cutting good promos on his own if Shawn Michaels was standing right next to him or they were allowed to completely dissect his opposition... like The Nation.)
