Guest Johnson1620 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Goldberg walking in to the WWE and immediately getting a title shot at WM would probably rank as the most desperate thing Vince McMahon has ever done. Even worse... it'd work. Buy-Rates would skyrocket because a vast majority of fans would rather see Lesnar/Goldberg than Lesnar/Angle. What can you do? I mean, the industry is about Joe E. Fan and the matchup is something the PushMiesters dream about. Eric pushed Goldberg to "Franchise" status in WCW and Vince did the same with Lesnar ... even if the status attained was pushed rather than earned (i.e., Eddie, Angle, Benoit, etc). Hey, that's why Eric and Vince get the big bucks. Here's something I find pretty strange about all this: isn't leapfrogging the straw that broke the camel's back for Austin? He's stated (not in so many words) that he thought Lesnar was pushed too fast and that it wasn't time for a Lesnar/Austin match ... and that was only on RAW. The thing about it is that a majority of the roster agreed with Austin (just not the way he showed his distaste by walking out). So here we now have rampant rumors about Goldberg signing to take on Lesnar in about 3 weeks. At most, not including Velocity, that gives him 6 TV appearances ... and then it's on to WM for the Main Event. I dunno... I had great expectations for this WM (especially with Lesnar/Angle) but now I think it might have to rely one hell of a lot on the undercard. I know Booker/Hunter is a sorta co-main event ... but Booker better not win, he doesn't deserve a title win at WM. I have decent expectations for Jericho/HBK, I have always been a Michael's fan and the same for Jericho. The Tag Matches should be top notch and for some reason I think UT's streak might be over (or come closer than it ever has before). Sorry for the rant, but that's my take on things right now.
Guest nikowwf Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 I honestly don't think Goldberg would add to mania significantly at all. A seconday PPV, oh hell yeah. Backlash headlined by Rock / Goldberg or something like that? Great move. A mania that already has Rock / Austin and a stacked card. I'd think it would move the buyrate maybe from 700 to 800 thousand at most. For backlask, might double the buys. (300 to 600? possible) So i think bringing him in now, shuffling the card to accomodate him and so forth would not be the best idea. niko

Guest nikowwf Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Well, it would have to actually HAPPEN to be the most desperate move ever, so its not the most desperate move ever. and Goldberg is the greatest wrestler in the history of the world, greater than both ALBERT and BIG SHOW combined! YES, its true! NIKO

Guest teke184 Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 the mainstream media fucking loves Goldberg That brings up an intriguing question... While Booker T's plight and the dumbass Mack-Long racism angle have generally been ignored, would Vince have someone start cutting anti-Semetic remarks about Goldberg in a feud and risk pissing off a large segment of the media?

If they gave him full creative control right off the bat, then that's another story. That brings up an intriguing question... While Booker T's plight and the dumbass Mack-Long racism angle have generally been ignored, would Vince have someone start cutting anti-Semetic remarks about Goldberg in a feud and risk pissing off a large segment of the media? That's not an intriguing question. Answer is no. If he did, it would be just little allusions like Triple H is doing. And why would anyone be offended by the Mack-Long angle (not referring to you specifically, I guess ... I dunno)? Because I'm sure there is not one of black person that doesn't like white people. Simply not the case!
Guest teke184 Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 I'm offended as a wrestling fan that stupid angles like that are considered to be the bright ideas of their writing crew. I'm just surprised that easily perturbed people like Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson haven't raised a stink. I guess they're still too pissed about Barbershop to care.
Guest JDMattitudeV1 Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 I don't think Goldberg would add much at all as far as buyrates are concerned. WCW's pay-per-view buyrates were appauling, and Goldberg did nothing to help that. Sure, he had his legs cut off by the likes of Hogan and Nash but the simple fact is when push gave to shove Goldberg was WCW's top star as it went spiraling down the toilet. Another factor to consider is the fact that Goldberg hasn't been involved in a major promotion sice WCW's dying days in 2001. Wrestling fans, notorious for having short memorys may have forgotten Goldberg or no longer care about him. This along with the fact that If he does come he will demand creative control along with his list of who he will and will not work with could be a total disaster all round. So in other words WWE are bound to sign him.
