Guest Polish_Rifle Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 I was channel surfing over the weekend and I saw Essa Rios on one of those Spanish wrestling shows, I think it was called AAA. Anyway, he came out to the old DX music and he was making crotch chops. Even worse, he was wearing the Hardy Boyz armbands and he was doing the guns to the head gesture along with the fans. The match was pretty crappy but it was entertaining nonetheless.
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 Was he a heel? It may have been funny if he was saying that because he had been in WWF and that he was the epitome of attitude or whatever. However, if he was a face then that is just sad.
Guest subliminal_animal Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 But maybe he used to a heel and his delusions were just so amusing that the crowd got behind him and they just had to turn him face. You got to keep this shit all up in the context of it, man.
Guest Matt Young Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 I remember the last time I watched lucha, probably at least 6 months ago, he was using the DX music. I have no idea why that is, or if it's even legal.
Guest razazteca Posted March 11, 2003 Report Posted March 11, 2003 He also stole the Perry Saturn dress gimmick. Gimmick theft is common place in Mexico
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 I think he was playing a heel. It was a 6-man tag with Essa, La Parka and some val Venis/Rick Rude wannabe against Lether Face (Cheap mankind ripoff), Jason (ala Friday the 13th) and I can't remember the other one. Anyway, the 3 horror flick ripoffs start pounding on La Parka and the other dude and Essa just stands outside pretending to be too busy to help them.
Guest justsoyouknow Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 ...and the sad thing is that sounds more entertaining than Raw.
Guest The Mad Cappa Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Essa teamed up with La Parka and Latin Lover against Jaason, Leatherface, and Heavy Metal (I think that was his name).
Guest El Satanico Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Damnit don't call Leatherface a mankind ripoff. Call it a Texas Chainsaw Massacre ripoff if you must, but don't insult TCM by comparing Leatherface to a wrestling gimmick. Mankind was nothing like the great horror character known as Leatherface. Gunnar Hansen would rip Foley apart.
Guest TheBigCalbowski Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Essa is playing a heel. However, he goes under the name of Mr. Aguila.
Guest AllCanadian Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Besides Leatherface was around years before the Mankind gimmick debuted.
Guest Steviekick Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Essa is playing a heel. However, he goes under the name of Mr. Aguila. He used the Aguila named against Taka at WM XIV for the Lightheavyweight Title.
Guest D'Lo White Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Was he wearing a fur coat ala Papi Chulo? I can't beleive they didn't run with that gimmick.
Guest Pigsy Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 "Even worse, he was wearing the Hardy Boyz armbands and he was doing the guns to the head gesture along with the fans." Maybe he wants to win Lita back...
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 or if it's even legal. We're talking Mexico here. Legal shmegal.
Guest subliminal_animal Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Essa is playing a heel. However, he goes under the name of Mr. Aguila. He used the Aguila named against Taka at WM XIV for the Lightheavyweight Title. I think he was 18 or 19 when that match happened. Not sure, but I know he was the youngest athlete to ever compete at a WrestleMania. Trivia! Was he wearing a fur coat ala Papi Chulo? I can't beleive they didn't run with that gimmick. That was like something he only had during dark matches between the Aguila and Essa Rios names/gimmicks ("gimmick" might be stretch). I'm pretty sure he jobbed on TV with it, but I don't remember it ever going beyond the name.
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Essa should definitely be brought back! he can team with Chavo and Eddie against the FBI temporarily and then he can have some kickass cruiserweight matches with Rey or Mattitude.
