Guest jester Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 The Rott and Bone Cold live on... WWE's lawsuit against Big Dog Holdings was thrown out this week. WWE had filed suit against the company, claiming that they used trademarked property without permission or without paying license fees. Big Dog had created shirts with phrases such as "The Rott" (based on The Rock) and "Bone Cold" (based on Stone Cold). U.S. District Judge David Cercone ruled that the t-shirts were protected under the first amendment and threw the case out. WWE's lawyer, Jerry McDevitt, stated the following: "Big Dog says it's a parody but it is not. They use these stupid dogs incorporating intellectual property for profit and they don't pay license fees that other people are required to pay." Credit: AP *** Yeah, McDevitt, don't you hate when people use licenses under circumstances they're not supposed to? Like the initials "WWF," for example?
Guest teke184 Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 If George Lucas doesn't get a cut from Dog Wars, why does Vince think he can get a cut from The Rott or Bone Cold? George Lucas is the biggest merchandising money whore in the western hemisphere and you'd think he'd have had a suit like this before.
Guest Steviekick Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 It's a simple parody. Maybe they should stop wasting there time on pointless lawsuits and work on figuring out how to improve their product.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 What's next? Vince gonna sue some old lady and her bakery in middle America because she makes cakes with WWE Wrestlers faces on them for kids B-Day parties?
Guest teke184 Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Why not? He's apparently been reading "How to piss off your fans and waste shareholders' money" by Michael Eisner...
