Maybe he was treating Liz so bad that she couldn't take it anymore and he helped her out.....gut feeling!!

He doesn't look all that bad in those two photos. He's of course going to look a little freaked out and pissed as he got caught for steroids, his girlfriend died, and in the second one, he got caught hitting her.
