Rest Holds

I'm tired of wrestlers looking gassed during rest holds. The only guy who actually acts like a rest hold is a discomfort is Benoit and he has to do that for a CRAPPY CHINLOCK!

And please, stop using camel clutches, stfs etc, as restholds.

They are supposed to HURT...

As in cause PAIN...

Restholds should be banned from non-ppv matches.

Which sounds like you're supposed to pay $34.95 for 90% more slouching, resting, and slumping.

jk, I see your point.

Watch an American Dragon match. He makes submissions believable. Even in a so called 'rest hold' he's always planning his escape or actually trying to escape.

Considering Nash and Big Sloth are headlining....isn't that basically what you are paying for now already?

Sometimes it makes sense for them not to look like they're in pain. I'm sure you've been in a sleeper before, probably when you were play-fighting as a kid. They don't really hurt.

Just blame it on the lack of creativity and the fact that they work in a 30 sec rest spot in a 3 minute match...

...Morons.

Christian would be forced to retire because rest holds is the only move in his repertoire.

Funny, I just watched SummerSlam 2002 tonight (RVD-Benoit), so, yeah, I know EXACTLY what you're talking about...

Then why do the holds in the first place?

Damn him for trying to convey realism in a match. We'll have none of that.

A sleeper doesen't hurt at all. But correctly applied, it knocks you out in five seconds and kills you in ten.

Thare ARE other moves than a chinlock...

Not sure what your point is, but there are a few wrestlers that should get that newsflash.

My point is that a chinlock has gone down the line that the sleeper did and is associated with resting, so wouldn't it be best to stop using it?

Vince should show his guys a tape of Benoit/Austin from the Edmonton SD. During that whole match, not ONE resthold took place (chinlock, stupid submission). Every submission spot made sense in the context of the match (Crossface, Sharpshooter, Boston Crab). Sure, you can relax during those moves, but they both made it seem like those moves KILLED. Excellent example of not needing restholds during a great match.

The Rock and Chris Jericho do an awesome job of making restholds believable as well. Except that Rock sometimes screams in pain while APPLYING the hold sometimes, which is just weird.

he's not screaming in pain, he's just being all intense & shit. benoit does it too when he puts on the crossface--you think he NEEDS to look like he's passing a kidney stone to make it more effective? of course not, but it adds drama.

Restholds should be banned from non-ppv matches.

so we should go back to the shitty brawling & choking to kill time in a match?

i don't really care how many rest holds i see in a match, as long as they MEAN something. the problem always was, is, and will be the shitty workers who don't know how to make a move MEAN something while they're getting their wind back; whether they be doing a chinlock, choking or whatever. since mcmahon has apparently told his roster to choke when they need to rest, they've completely killed choking as any way of getting heat. nobody gives a shit when they see choking now, cause everybody does it in every match. as long as there are shitty workers on television, we'll have this "resting" problem.

So... have you tried some of those restholds?

I guess you guys up there didnt get those DONT TRY THIS AT HOME ads. ;)

Now talking about restholds and some of that moves you named.

Like someone said, a Sleeper well applied it could kill. Go to the Hitman talks about Goldberg vs Jericho thread, Bret speaks about how a headlock could work against a BULL Size man like Goldberg.

And about the Camel Clutch, performed as canadians do It hurts. And I dunno who is using an STF as resthold.

Peace.

RAW matches are like 5 minutes long. You shouldn't need to kill time in a RAW match.

and yet there it is in every raw match, choking and shitty brawling.

i think it might actually help condition the fans to get used to things like armbars & chinlocks in a match to put them in the 5-minute raw matches, so that when they come in the ppv's the fans don't zone out completely. i don't mean like an actual rest spot, just a quick little chinlock after some chain wrestling that the other guy can wrestle out of after a few seconds.
