Randy Savage throws down his mic in frustration during concert last night

By Wade Keller, Torch editor

PWTorch.com reader Scott Fedor sent in the following synopsis of the concert by "Macho Man" Randy Savage in Treasure Island, Florida last night...

Syndicated morning show D.J. Bubba The Love Sponge talked about the show daily for the week or so leading up to the event (heard locally on 98 Rock). Bubba and Savage have a long-running feud, and Bubba encouraged his listeners to come out in full force to let Randy know exactly what they thought about him.

When I got to Mr. B's (the restaurant/bar where the event was held), there was a swarm of people outside of the building, many adorned in bright yellow shirts. Bubba had promised a shirt giveaway on the radio, and those were the shirts. On the front read "Hulk Hogan Rules" and on the back "Macho Man Sucks" with "Proud Member of the Bubba Army" written below. I was too late for the free shirts.

Mr. B's was refusing to let anyone else inside at that point -- especially those who were wearing the yellow shirts. However, others who walked right up were let inside, no problem. Apparently the idea was to prevent hecklers from making it inside. That idea ended up failing. A slew of off-duty cops kept the peace out front as best they could.

Brian Adams (Crush) and Macho Man arrived together in a limo. There were a few cheers... and then a chorus of boos from angry Bubba fans. People were shouting things like "Nubain" and "crapped your pants at Gold's Gym" at Randy. I was amazed at the scene.

A cover band was inside playing as a warm-up, and I managed to finally get through the doors. The venue was tiny, hardly the scene for a serious concert.

The performance itself was horrendous. Remember the Milli Vanilli incident in 1990 where their CD started skipping at a concert? That's what happened three songs into this show. Macho was lip-synching to his music, trying his best to ignore the overwhelming boos and jeers from the crowd. Unfortunately for Randy, the CD started skipping. Oops. He kept lip-synching until Adams gave him the sign to stop. They tried to compose themselves, but ultimately the rowdy crowd and equipment problems were too much to handle. Randy slammed down the mic and ended the show abruptly.

Overall, the show was great on the unintentional comedy side of things. As a serious performer, though, Savage doesn't stand a chance. I felt bad for Randy up there on stage. Someone has given him some bad advice on this one. He'd be better off working for MLW here in Florida -- as a wrestler, not a rap singer

Forgive me for being naive, but what exactly does Randy Savage *hate* Hulk Hogan for?

Because he's a bitter old fuck, just like Hogan, but in his case it is because Hogan has come back into wrestling recently and made some money.

No one wants Randy Savage, but Vince still considers Hogan a draw. That in itself kills Randy.

He's always been Hogan's bitch anyway. This should be nothing new to him.

He was also always one of the best wrestlers in the promotion. Until Hogan came to WCW in 94...then the injuries, age, and the fact that he didn't care anymore took over.

He also really blames Hogan for his failed marriage to Liz.

And Damaramu....Savage didn't come to WCW until after Hogan came in.

Hogan apparently had a whole controversial chapter about his up and down relationship with Randy but his lawyers advised him to take it out, trherefore he only makes brief mentions of him in his book.

I hope to GOD Hogan and Savage face off at Wrestlemania 20...and I hope Savage slaps him silly. Savage has lost his mind...and I love every second of it.

What a bunch of fucking pricks. I've listened to Macho's tunes, and any fan of wrestling should be able to laugh at them but enjoy them at the same time. I personally will be buying his album and if he comes around, I'll see him too.

He'd be about as good as a "wrestler" as he would as a "rap singer"

I hope you're just referring to his condition today, and not as an assesement of his ability in his prime.

Girl you know it's... Girl you know it's...Girl you know it's...Girl you know it's...Girl you know it's...Girl you know it's...Girl you know it's...

Wow, I don't think greek tragedies are that sad. I don't know why he didn't just call the whole thing off knowing how much Bubba played against it. I'm not a fan of Savage, but Bubba's an annoying-Howard-Stern-copying-ass for pulling shit like that. Bubba's got too much of a thing for Hogan to be healthy.

Well damn I figured he came first. Oh well.....still I say he only tried in WCW against Flair.

Macho Man also hates Hogan for not accepting his challenge to do a wrestling match for charity. Savages accuses Hogan of having something against sick kids.

But Macho actuallty did rap on his CD. I think just about anybody can recognize his voice. Why would he lip sync his own songs? That doesn't make any sense!

Well, unless he forgot his own words...

Hogan came to WCW in June of '94 and Savage didn't show up until December of '94.

Savage showed up on WCW Saturday Night saying he was going to confront Hogan and either shake his hand or punch him in the mouth. Of course at that point he and Hogan worked together for awhile.

Maybe Savage finally realized what a tool he sounds like - and probably looks like - trying to rap. He was probably reading the lyrics off of a sheet of paper in the studio, and/or had a lot of help from the producer to make him sound decent on the CD. That's the only reason that somebody would lip synch, unless they had a really elaborate dance routine or something.

this whole situation reminds me of dirk diggler and reed from boogie nights making that terrible song when their porn careers were going down

"Feel feel feel... feel the heat"

Incidentally, the other song Dirk tried to record, "You got the touch/you got the power" is the theme song from the Transformers movie. Hilarious!

A lot of fake musicians lip sync when they are on stage ala Britney Spears.

the funniest thing about this, to me, is the idea that Bubba the Cum Sponge actually HAS fans.

It's amazing to me how much of a wrestling mark Bubba is. In normal conversations about other subject, he'll use inside wrestling terms as regular words. Unbelievable.
