Guest Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 First off, please don't move this tread. It's about the WWF and if we add some NWA/WcW/ECW matches, it shouldn't be a problem since it's part of the WWF now. Anyway, matches you liked and others hated. Just to name a few, Armageddon 2000; Jericho vs Kane. Last Man Standing. I know the finish was lame, but the match itself was pretty good. They didn't try to make it a lame "hardcore" match and use a bunch of weapons. They just beat the Hell out of each other. Back around last October, it was a Smackdown and the main event was Austin Vs Taker. No one seem to like it, but I did. Austin was still playing the Heel Champion in the Alliance. It was the match that Taker screwed up and dropped the "steel" chair on Austin's head and busted him open. Everyone thought it was funny because Taker was crying and bitching about RVD being careless and busting people open. Just to name a few more, X-pac Vs Jericho, Cage Match. Edge Vs Booker T, from this past Wrestlemania. Booker T Vs Taker, Forgot which PPV from late last year.
Guest Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 WrestleMania 12 Iron Man Match between Hart and Michaels. I love this match... most don't have the patience to sit through it, mainly because it involves... hmmm, let's see... wrestling. Yeah yeah, I know that Hart didn't sell alot of stuff that Shawn gave him and vice versa, but wrestling wise, it was a very technically sound match, and very very underrated. I also love how professional the match felt. No goofy color commentary, the rules were laid out before the match etc. It sort of had a WrestleWar '89 Flair/Steamboat type feel to it
Guest Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 That's cool, but I think most people do like the Wrestlemania 12, Iron Man Match. This is more for what matches the average "smark" hates but you like.
Guest Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 I used that as an example, because I've spoken to countless smarks who hate the match citing it's slow pace and politics as reasons
Guest razazteca Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 Survivor Series 93 as a whole PPV Harts vs HBK & His Knights Rock & Roll Express vs Heavenly Bodys these matches were entertaining to me.
Guest What?! Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 The Kiss My Ass Match: Rock vs Billy Gunn I thought it was okay. Or maybe it's because after having Billy show his ass Raw after Raw, it was nice to see Rock shove Billy's face up that fat woman's ass which lead to JR's classic "The Rock just shoved Billy up that fat woman's ass" line.
Guest Risk Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 Although Triple H vs. Warrior was utter crap, it's funny seeing Hunter being JOBBER BOY~!. THAT aspect entertains me.
Guest Special K Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 Although he was in a lot of mediocre matches, I'll always have I smile on my face during a Rick Rude match. Other than that? It would mostly be comedy stuff. Like Hogan Warrior 2. WAY too funny.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 Eddy vs Test from Wrestlemania X7
Guest Lucha Hogan Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 Call me crazy but i liked the blindfold match between Jake "the snake" vs. Rick Martel entertaining!
Guest Singular Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 [Call me crazy but i liked the blindfold match between Jake "the snake" vs. Rick Martel entertaining] LOL. You're crazy. It really was kind of an interesting gimmick given the situation. I always did like Rick Martel. I think my guilty pleasure match is Michaels vs. Martel in the no punches to the face match from summerslam (not sure of year). Also the Doink/Dink/Wink/other one vs. Lawler and his midgets. Gotta love those crazy little people.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 RVD/Sabu vs. Hayabusa/Jinsei Shinzaky gets a lot of shit because it's nothing but a spotfest, but then tons of smarks go around and rate the TLC matches ****-***** each...even though almost every spot in those matches was done during this match, done with more flow, and done BETTER. Most people can't stand ICP's matches, but I like them. Sure, it may be the commentary on the JCW videos that makes them that much more enjoyable, but I always found Shaggy 2 Dope to be a mint bumptaker, and J really isn't THAT bad in the ring. Better than some recent WWF champions... I also liked Shawn Stasiak vs. Kurt Angle from Survivor Series 1999...although nobody else does...
Guest The Electrifyer Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 I always liked the TLC matches, even though some people here hate them for being pure spotfests. I don't care though, the TLC matches to me were spectacular and pure madness.
Guest Will Scarlet Posted April 24, 2002 Report Posted April 24, 2002 I would have to say that I have enjoyed a lot of the comedic Hardcore matches that usually get bad ratings from smarks. Not to mention, I have actually enjoyed most Test matches I have seen. I guess I am just one of the few Test marks out there.
Guest Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 wow...a test mark...don't see many of those in these parts. I'm actually surprised you came right out and said that considering it coincides with your sudden decline in credibility.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 Credibility on a messageboard? BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHA!!!! How pathetic. Anyways, some matches that I liked: Kane/Test, No Mercy 2001 Eddy/Test, WM 17 D'Lo/Val, SummerSLam 98 Jarrett/X-Pac, SummerSlam 98 Harts/Lawler's Knights and HBK, Survivor Series 93 Edge/Test, Survivor Series 2001
Guest Ace309 Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 [Hijack] I hate the WMXII Iron Man match. Hate it. I was really excited at the beginning. They kept running armbar and side headlock sequences. For most of the match, the psychology was sound - each man had his own move that he kept going back to. Both had excellent stamina, so it made sense that neither was worn down by the headlock/armbar. They both changed their styles for the match as part of a meta-psychology decision, and both men sold being uncomfortable very well. But then it didn't lead to anything. For the match they had, the multi-superkick finish was just ridiculous. Thank you... that is all. [/Hijack]
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 SK totally slammed Sabu vs Sandman Stairway to Hell from House Party 99. I thought it rocked.

Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 I liked the Hardy vs. Hardy match at Vengeance. I thought the lack of highspots made it much better. I liked TLC 3 the best out of any of the TLC matches. Most people say its the worst but I thought it was the best in terms of stiff shots and sick bumps (I'll take Benoit going headfirst through a table and D'Von essentially getting Burning Hammered by Matt Hardy over some 40 foot senton any day) as well as the storyline told by the match. Benoit and Jericho added a new element to the match without detracting from it at all. I like the "Match made in Hell" (Hogan/Warrior vs. Slaughter/Adnan/Moustafa) for markish reasons.
Guest papacita Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 1. Chyna Vs Lita from Judgment Day. It was kinda sloppy, but it was probably the best Women's Title match I had seen up to that point...well, since Blayze left. Plus seeing how Chyna is one of my favs and I actually thought they might put the belt on Lita made the match that much more interesting to me. 2. HHH and Mankind from KOTR 97. I wasn't following wrestling on the net back then, but I was shocked when I heard a lot of people say that this was a bad match. I thought it and that PPV (aside from the Main Event) was great. 3. Shamrock Vs Undertaker from Backlash 99. The crowd was dead for this one and from what I heard I was just about the only one who liked the thing. Shamrock took Taker apart like no one I had ever seen...plus he made him scream out in pain for the 1st time in his WWF career (that I can remember anyway). Plus I loved how Shamrock countered the chokeslam into the cross armbreaker. That was nice. Those are all I can think of out of the top of my head.

Guest AM The Kid Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 Call me crazy but i liked the blindfold match between Jake "the snake" vs. Rick Martel entertaining! Me too!
Guest Austin3164life Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 I never heard any smarks praise the Austin vs. Michaels match at WM 14. I thought it was a solid ***1/2 match at least, considering Michaels' back, his backstage BS, and Austin still feeling effects from the neck injury. Both men, while injured, put on an entertaining match, Triple H and Chyna were kicked out, and the Tyson element hyped it up more...... Another underrated match I feel was Owen/Bulldog vs. Vader/Mankind. The finish was gay with the double countout, but the match was pretty solid. I liked it anyway. It was funny how King praised Owen for everything, but for Bulldog he just called him a "big dumb strong guy". Bad finish but a solidly worked match by all four men.....
Guest Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 I don't watch many Pay-Per-Views so the matches that spring to mind are Blackman's hardcore stuff. I always liked it when he brought the trash can lids into play and what not. Sure, they weren't classics (I mean, they were only 2-3 minutes to begin with) but I found them to be more fun than Scott Keith, my only real basis of comparison at the time, did. I also remember liking a few Vampiro matches that probably weren't that special, but were good enough. Then again, I have horribly low standards...
Guest Smeghead Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 Backlash 2001: Angle vs. Benoit, ultimate submission match I think most people fell asleep during this match, waking up for a few seconds when Benoit tried to apply the Crossface. I actually enjoyed it. Very different from the type of wrestling you normally see on TV. I liked the Wrestlemania XII Iron Man match too.
Guest Coffin Surfer Posted April 25, 2002 Report Posted April 25, 2002 Benoit/Malenko vs. Sabu/Taz is a **** masterpeice IMO. People bitch how it has no psychology and its just spots, whatever. Its excellently fast paced, all the spots are perfectly executed, each man is given a chance to shine and Sabu never ever looked better. Plus the psychology was awesome as The Shooter and Crippler took Taz and Sabu apart, isolating each man, targeting Taz's leg, and Sabu's broken neck. Plus the Awesome/Tanaka matches dont get nearly the credit they deserve. They never laid around for hours after a spot(cough RVD cough), they never did poser mat wrestling(cough RVD cough), they just did high spot after high spot after high spot and always closed the match with a really high spot. And Rick Rude was entertaining as hell to watch.
