Say hypothetically raw was pay-per-view

Now that the Jarrett's are starting a new NWA promotion as a weekly show that you have to pay for, I am curious if McMahon had come up with this idea, would you pay $9.99 a week to watch RAW? (assuming no other WWF program existed and no extra pay-per-views)

I definetly wouldn't, unless they got rid of 20 minute promos and had some actual matches.

Yep.  From Pro Wrestling Torch:

"Jerry Jarrett and son Jeff Jarrett will head up a new National Wrestling Alliance promotion that will offer weekly two-hour commercial free programs for $9.95 each. The promotion will be affiliated with the numerous NWA territories across the country that have been operating on a small regional scale.

The Jarretts are planning to use a number of major names to launch their program (Jeff Jarrett, Ken Shamrock, Scott Steiner, The Harris Brothers, A.J. Styles, Jerry Lynn, and others have been contacted or have committed), plus they have been scanning independent promotions for  undiscovered future stars. They are also planning to hold a national search for new female talent. They are specifically limiting the number of former WCW names who will be part of the promotion. Jarrett and Steiner may be the only two major WCW names who are hired initially.  In Demand is strongly against the NWA looking like a rehash of the former WCW, and

instead wants to appear to be a fresh new promotion with its own identity."

Who in their right mind is going to pay $40 a month for a federation of indy talent?  I mean if they held a monthy PPV for $10 I'd definately pay.

Agreed Mad Dog.  I applaud the Jarretts for trying to make a WWF alternative wrestling company.  But to expect people to pay for a weekly show is ridiculous.  It won't work.

Here's an interesting question, say RAW and SmackDown were still on the air and they continued to produce the product they do now.  But you could buy on Pay-Per-View the WWF house shows for a reasonable $5-10 fee that feature a whole lot less storyline and a whole lot more action inside the ring?  Granted, the matches are going to be pretty meaningless as far as the storylines are concerned, but does that really matter if the matches are good and long?  It surely couldn't be hyped like a Wrestlemania or anything but it would be 2-3 hours of solid stuff that you normally wouldn't see on WWF TV.

Even then, I wouldn't pay for house shows. Nor would I pay for Raw. Maybe a couple of years ago I would've payed $5 a pop. Now though? no way. I can by puro for 10 bucks a tape. Not that I wouldn't hate missing out on the WWF storylines, (I've been following for 9-10 years, after all), but until I started reading on the net about shows I'd like to watch regularly, no way would I pay money. Hell, i do homework during the shows now, and only pay attention when I hear something that grabs my attention, or a wrestler I like is in the ring.

Probably not.  Not with the feds being split.  I'd want to see all my fav stars.

Also, if that were to happen, then one would have to choose the house show wisely.  Some house shows are decent, good even.  Others in lesser cities are crap or have a lot of developmental talent.

Your idea is a rather interesting one, however.

The difference between this and what Jarrett is proposing is that they have an unknown product.

The Jarrett's are doomed to fail.  If this were happening as part of a wrestling  boom it would be one thing.  But ratings everywhere are down.  Startup companies are failing left and right (WWA, XWF, MECW).  They are charging right off the bat without first gathering a following like ECW did.  They are bringing in wrestlers who are just out pimping their services until they either get picked up by the WWF or find another company to pay them.

I give it a month or two. After that they won't be able to keep it up. When it comes down to it what are you going to do: Pay $35 for a WWF ppv or $10 a week for the Jarrett promotion? I doubt many will get both.

Another thing, PPVs are supposed to finish up angles (for the most part) but the NWA ppvs will just be furthering them. I like the idea of a new promotion but unless they can secure a tv deal the Jarretts will fall to the wayside.

I don't think I would pay.  Paying $30 per month to see their pay per views is enough for me.

depends...are there ppvs? I spend 30 a month on ppvs, so if it was 4 shows instead of one...

8 hours of programming, more wrestling...maybe 5 hours of wrestling total

would be worth it if ya think about it, specially if your gang chipped in

Man that is so true, especially right now.  I watch the NHL playoffs and have RAW in the picture-in-picture.

If the Jarrets fed has a alot of good younger Indy talent(and some known names that still have ability left)and put on many good matches i'd strongly consider paying $40 for 8 hours a month. It would be alot better then paying WWF $35 for an hour and 40 minutes per month with only an average of two good matches.

But if it was just a bunch of has beens mixed with some indy talents i would never pay for it.
