Rockstar Games and Interscope Records Reveal Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Soundtrack Details

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Double CD and 8 CD Box Soundtrack Set available in November

New York, NY – October 18, 2004 - Rockstar Games, the world-renowned publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), and Interscope Records, a part of Universal Music Group, proudly announce the release of a double CD soundtrack as well as an 8 CD box set soundtrack to the highly-anticipated videogame Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the next installment in the best-selling Grand Theft Auto franchise. The double CD and box set are scheduled for release on November 23rd, 2004 in the US and November 22nd, 2004 throughout Europe.

As a bonus the official soundtrack double CD will feature a separate stand-alone DVD containing 'The Introduction', the cinematic prologue to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. ‘The Introduction’ tells the full story of the events leading up to CJs return to San Andreas. Why was he forced to come back? What is he leaving behind and what is he really walking into? This exclusive prequel is not available anywhere else and has been crafted with the highest production standards Rockstar is famous for. Look for some familiar faces making a surprise return. With the game set in the early 1990’s, the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas soundtrack will feature a large variety of tracks spanning the FM radio dial of the West Coast during this particularly influential period in American music and culture. The double CD will feature a mix of select tracks from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ many in-game radio stations while each album of the 8 CD box set will replicate a music station from the game featuring a broader selection of tracks ranging from contemporary west coast and classic east coast hip-hop, funk, rare groove, new jack swing and contemporary soul, alternative rock, classic rock, reggae and country.

In-game radio stations have become one of the signature aspects of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, delivering a realistic radio experience by allowing players to tune the radio station in the huge selection of vehicles in the game to any station they like, complete with hours of satirical commercials and DJ banter that cleverly parodies a wide mix of radio formats. The radio stations in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will feature the most staggering selection of music ever assembled for a video game with over one-hundred and fifty tracks from artists including James Brown, Willie Nelson, 2 Pac, and Rage Against the Machine plus many, many more that encompass a great deal of the radio spectrum of the early 90’s The double CD also includes as a bonus track an exclusive cover of the Nine Inch Nails early 90s industrial staple “Head Like A Hole” by Northern Californian punk band AFI, who formed in 1991. The track has been recorded by AFI specifically for the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas soundtrack album and as a tribute to this unique era in music.

The complete track listing for the double CD is as follows:

CD 1

1. The Theme From San Andreas

2. Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name

3. 2 Pac - I Don't Give A

4. James Brown - The Payback

5. Ronnie Hudson - West Coast Poplock

6. Guy - Groove Me

7. Eddie Money - Two Tickets To Paradise

8. Cypress Hill - How I Could Just Kill A Man

9. The Maytals - Pressure Drop

10. Slick Rick - Children's Story

11. Rick James - Cold Blooded

12. Raze - Break 4 Love

CD 2

1. Ohio Players - Funky Worm

2. Heart - Barracuda

3. Compton's Most Wanted - Hood Took Me Under

4. Lyn Collins - Think About It

5. Public Enemy - Rebel Without A Pause

6. Faith No More - Midlife Crisis

7. Bell Biv Devoe - Poison

8. Max Romeo & The Upsetters - Chase The Devil

9. Eric B & Rakim - I Know You Got Soul

10. Willie Nelson - Crazy

Bonus Track:

11. AFI - Head Like A Hole

-------------------------------------------------

And...that's just for the CD so there will be a lot of other stuff in the game. I can't wait to just..ride around in the Streets of LA blasting 'Poison' while shooting people. Awesome.

Thats a disappointing soundtrack.

That's also just a minor sountrack. The article said a full 8 CD soundtrack with all the songs in the game will be in it.

What in the name of the gaming gods is going on?

Half-Life 2, DOOM 3, Halo 2, and today's addition, Rockstar's GTA: San Andreas, have all been leaked, hacked, and warezed before their official launch dates.

With less than a week to go, the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas impact might not be as big as last week's Halo 2 predicament, but even so, several of the big titles this year have been pirated prior to appearing in stores. The GTA: San Andreas version is 2.6 GB and labeled DVD USA.

Rockstar sent us a comment on the piracy:

"Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive Software are aware that an illegally obtained version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and images from the game and manual have been posted to various internet sites. The proper authorities are investigating the theft and are continuing to investigate all possible leads to ensure there is no further dissemination of our creative content. Downloading, possession and distribution of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, including making the game available on the internet, is theft.

We take the theft of our intellectual property very seriously and we are and will continue to diligently and aggressively pursue this matter. If anyone finds information on websites with links to unauthorized downloads, information, scans or videos, please contact us at [email protected].

The launch date of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains the same. The game will be on store shelves in North America on Oct. 26 and in Europe on Oct. 29."

GTA: San Andreas is the third PS2 chapter of the multimillion unit selling franchise. Boasting a world that five times larger than Vice City, San Andreas introduces a host of new features that include eating food to survive, the freedom to completely customize your character with tattoos, clothing, and haircuts, a brand-new vehicle physics engine, the long-wanted ability to swim, and overhauled graphical presentation.

Ladies and gentlemen, priracy has stuck once again.

Great Soundtrack list.

If it was going to have Biz Markie, I'd prefer "Just a Friend", but I really can't complain.

I checked around at a few websites with some info from people who have the leaked game or leaked instruction book and a learned a lot of new cool stuff that hasn't been announced. I don't know if you guys want it all to be a surprise, so I'll put it in the spoiler text. This is all gathered from various fan sites and message boards and I assume it is true.

-It will keep track of stats that you work for. The stats are Respect(for recruiting gang members), Stamina(for running and swimming), Muscle, Fat, and Sex Appeal.

-Known actors that I've heard are doing voices are Ice Cube(as Sweet) and Andy Dick(as a radio host) EDIT--Also Chris Penn and Samuel L Jackson as cops, and Charlie Murphy I'm not sure who he's doing.

-Kent Paul, Salvatore Leone, and Ken Rosenburg will be returning characters.

-The talk radio station has 8 different radio shows that will play throughout the day. They are:

"The News with Lianne Furget" , "The Tight End Zone" , "The Wild Traveler" , "Entertaining America" (featuring the return of Lazlow) , "Garderning with Maurice" , "I Say/You Say" , "Lonely Hearts show" , and "Area 53".

-You will now have a camera that you can use for taking pictures during the game. Your pictures will be saved and viewable whenever you want.

Isn't Salvatore Leone supposed to be dead? I remember whacking him in GTA III.

Isn't Salvatore Leone supposed to be dead? I remember whacking him in GTA III.

GTAIII is set in 2001 or whatever, San Andreas is set in the early 90s. It's like how Phil Cassidy has 2 arms for part of Vice City then loses one towards the end when he was already in GTAIII with one arm.

It's rare when I'm pumped for a video game... but I'm psyched right now. I should probably go reserve a copy soon but that soundtrack's really nice. I can't help myself but to go poke around to see what else the piracy game has turned up.

Wow . . . this sounds so awesome. Stupid game companies making me choose between V8 Supercars and GTA. Such a hard choice, they both sound so awesome. Seriously though, it sure sounds pretty damn cool so far. I mean I didn't think they could improve much on Vice City, but it sure sounds like they have.

But Billy Idol . . . awesome. If only it was 'Rebel Yell'

After playing it for a couple of days..

The soundtrack is good, but gets really annoying fast. Also, the talk radio station sucks compared to VC's, but you do hear news that updates after major events in the game happen.

must stop playing video games and learn how to drive

Nah, turning threads like "New IGN Video", "First Image Posted", and now "Trailer Online" into full fledged OAO threads is the hip new thing to do. Keep this one alive, kids!

I have to work all day tomorrow, then after work go to a focus group or whatever you want to call it where they're paying me money to tell them about whatever. Hopefully I have enough of a time window to go from the group discussion to the mall before it closes. If not, I'll pick the game up Wednesday afternoon after work.

IGN gave San Andreas a 9.9. Theyre calling it the best PS2 game EVER.

wow, that is certainly a ringing endorsement. I know I should be saving my money since I am out of work again, and I already plan on buying MGS 3, but on the other hand, I do have a ton of money stashed in the bank.....hmmm....choices.
