You know how in every RAW, Smackdown, and pay-per-view to advertise for the upcoming match, they show the two wrestlers on a background screen just posing. And in pay-per-views it is always in a different background? Can somebody tell me when this started?

From what I can remeber, boxing started this back in the 1940's but just with the names of the boxers on the screen and the posing on posters. I think the WWWF was the first to do this and in the WWF as I remeber that at the first Wrestlemania in 1985, they had the wrestlers names on the screen. The same went with the chyron.

Then, at Wrestlemania III, for the matches, they had the wrestlers faces put up along with their names on the bottom and the Wrestlemania III logo as the background. I don't think they really did this until Wrestlemania V or VII. I still don't remeber WCW doing this.

At Wrestlemania VIII is when they started showing the wrestlers from the waist up on the match-up screen next to a creative background. (the color was purple). They then started doing this all the time for T.V. matchups.

WCW in the late 90's started doing the match-up screens but just with the names placed on creative backgrounds only showing posings a few times. Then in towards the end of the decade, they started showing shots of the wrestlers fighting with their names in the background and it wasn't until Vince Russo left in 2000 those two times did the WCW start using wrestlers posing from the waist up next to a background.

The WWF did the match-up graphics then at Wrestlemania 2000, the background moved and they became extremely  creative with the background. At Unforgiven, last year, they showed the wrestlers moving then stopping to pose and they've been doing so ever since.

So, anyway, prove me if I'm wrong and if there is such a site, link me to match-up screen pictures from past WWF and WCW events thanx.

I thought they started doing it when Smackdown got that makeover.

I thought WCW started showing the wrestlers in the graphics  earlier, like in 1997, in fact, I'm pretty sure, I was still in California at the time, and was kind of impressed by it...

Maybe you mean 1987, cuz WCW was using those match graphics a while before 97. And yes, Smackdown live was the 1st time they used the motion graphic.

You're right, they started using the ones of the wrestlers moving, and then stopping to pose after the new Fisting *LOL* Smackdown set was introduced. They didn't start doing it on RAW until a while afterwards, though.

On a completely unrelated note, Chyna looks much better with that hair colour.

Then again, I'm odd. I thought Molly looked better as a blonde, and I don't even like blondes.

I'm almost POSITIVE that they started using those graphics on Raw the night that Austin won the title from Angle.

Sorry Dames you are wrong, the moving graphics started with the new SD! set.  WWF was using still pictures way back when the Megapowers were exploding.

This may sound crazy but is there like any site that has match-up graphics of WWF matches from old school? Can I be linked?

Or,for those who have old wrestling tapes, could ya take a picture of main event graphics from old WWE pay-per-views, scan them, and link or email them? [email protected]That's where they could be sent.

That would be appreciated thanx.
