Credible/not so credible title reigns

Now I'm not talking about the infamous Vince Russo, Mcmahon, Arquette, I mean title runs like Booker T's WCW title, DDP's first title, Sid's title run, Lance Storm's multiple WCW title runs, Hugh Morrus and Shane Douglas with the US titles, etc.

Who should not have gotten the belt, who dropped the ball, or which title runs that most people bash did you accept and like?

Lance Storm; IC title last summer.

Jericho; First Undisputed Champion.

Did you like those, or did u think it was rushed and bad booking?

Sorry I geared this more towards the question of which reigns tanked, but I meant it as a which ones did you like or dislike?

So did you not like those?

No, I liked those. BUT, they were booked like crap. Storm, not sure what really went wrong there, but Jericho's title reign was good until that infamous January 7th.

January 7th set the company back a while.

Jericho and RVD had been taring shit up and making fast ground for the new blood of the company.

Then we ended up with HHH vs. Hogan vs. Taker vs. Big Show vs. Bradshaw...

What the hell happened?

The Rock as WCW champ, Taker & Kane as WCW Tag Champs, the whole Invasion title changes in general, were weak.

I liked Lance Storm as the Triple Crown Canadian champ in WCW.

Very true.

I for one did buy Booker T's run to the top and the way they booked his and Goldberg's only confronttion, I found it pretty compelling and I never doubted his high status because he was pretty damn over.

He jocked off the Rock a bit too much, though, I'm sure that hurt his WWE career.

I liked Booker's first title reign. He worked hard to justify the push he got, but the way Russo tanked the once-most prestigious title in the U.S. was just too much to overcome.

Also, I felt Jericho Undisputed Championship reign was prett damn good, but when they started the Austin feud and made him into an even bigger pussy(with a few bright spots inbetween where he beat Austin like a bitch) and the horrible HHH feud where Stephanie was made into the focal point of the entire thing just ruined it. Unlike others though, I really don't make a big deal about January 7th as if it was some HUGE event in wrestling history(not exactly knocking anybody, but goddamn, it's getting retarded).

The only recent (invasion on) reign that has come off convincingly was Austin's, and Jericho's first WCW title run, since he cared about the belt so much. No midcard titles mean anything, besides perhaps cruiser. I do buy B&C's tag run, mostly because they have no competition.

Past reigns that were nice: Booker's WCW run (in WCW), Hogan's initial nWo run, HHH's 1st heel run, The Rock/HHH IC belt rivalry. And of course RVD's TV title run.

One's that were particularly bad: DDP's run, Sid's run to WM13, Credible's ECW run, HHH's recent run, Hogan's present run. One that will always bug me is Sting's run after beating Hogan. Should have been great, but the awful conclusion to the rivalry killed Sting.

I couldn't agree more with this statement.

If the only thing that January 7th did was change the direction of the company to put the strap on HHH at Mania (which it did) then it DID set the company back...cause...check it out.

All the Invasion nightly title changes were horrible same as the weekely Big Gold Belt title changes at the end of WcW

Booker T's first title reign was great he diserved it same with Jericho didn't expect him to win the title and he did i couldn't have been happeir even though the booking for it was some of the shittiest i've ever seen

I'll even go old school the first Shawn Micheal's title reign was great with the build up and the increadable Iron Man match

I was there January 7th. So bps you're saying that the Billy-n-Chucky v. Zoo Crew match was the thing that led to the apocolypse or something?

um...yes.

Isnt that obvious?

January 7th is a day which will live in infamy.....for the wrong reasons.

But, moving on, I think that The Rock's immediate WCW Title win was rediculous.  Yeah, he was getting popped a lot but come on.  Filming a movie doesn't earn him the right to the WCW Title as soon as he steps into the ring after 4 months.....

But actors winning the WCW title is a proud tradition.

I couldn't agree more... I was especially bugged by the Angle WCW title run that lasted for what, a weekend? Angle was at least a credible champion though... I couldn't buy Taker & Kane or Hardyz as WCW tag champs and DDP & Kanyon as WWF tag champs.  It just didn't feel right...

How about Albert as IC champ? ::cringes::

What about in the summer of '98, when "Wolfpack" Sting won the Tag Belts from Giant after he turned heel, and picked Kevin Nash to be his partner.

Not Luger, whom he had history with.

Not someone who was getting over, like Konnan or Booker T., who could have used the rub.

Not DDP, who had the history with the nWo.

Nash.

God I was even hoping for The Dancing Fools to win the tag belts at that point, and I've never been all that high on Disco Inferno.

Rick Steiner's run as US Champ.  Also Rick Steiner's run as TV Champ.  This guy was never over as a singles, not as a face or a heel, during the last few years, yet they figure a belt is gonna help the situation?  Might've worked in 1988, when the fans cared about the loveable oaf, but they stopped caring about Rick once Scott's solo career took off.
