Kurt angle going for gold...in 2004

Kurt Angle told Jacksonville, Flordia's television station News 4, that he will begin training for the 2004 Summer Olympics in December. As reported, the WWE has already granted Angle two years off for training. Angle also announced that his wife is pregnant with their first child and is due in December.

It was also announced that Angle will oversee an amateur wrestling event called "The Kurt Angle Wrestling Classic", which will be held this November in New Orleans.

( Sorry if this has been reported )

Ahem...and you think Smackdown sucks NOW?

Even though I like ANgle, if he gets his ass owned in the Olympics, I'll be laughing my ass off because he never should have gone back in the first place.

Why not?

Angle is a phenominal athelte and is in amazing shape for a human being, not to mention his endurance attributes.

What possible reason could you hold against him NOT going to the Olympics one last time? The Olympics is bigger than the WWF, not to mention the credibility that comes with participation in the games. Plus, he's won gold before, history has a tendency to repeat itself..

Just like our Cathy Freeman does every year in the Track and Field! YOU RULE CATHY!

I never said he wasn't a great athlete, but his Olympic win was 6 years ago. He's older now and the young bucks are getting stronger and faster. If he doesn't even make it past the qualifying round(something I highly doubt would happen, BTW), he'd look like Jordan did after he came back against after winning 3 more rings.

And history sometimes comes back and bites you on the ass, too.

Well i honestly believe that Angle still has what it takes. If you have a look at how big he is now in comparison to when he debuted into the WWF, its quite significant. A bigger, faster Angle might just top his Atlanta performance..

Time will tell..

He's bigger because he's on roids. He'll have to cycle them out before the Olympic Trials begin.

Kurt Angle is on steroids???

What the HELL? Are you sure? ....I'd ask for proof but i know you'd just say "LOOK AT HIS SHOULDERS!"...much like Triple H...hmm..interesting

Uh-huh... so you're just going to insult me by lumping me in with all the HHH haters, eh? Hell, you act as if I said it was a bad thing. Besides, whatever "proof" I give you will end up just being refuted because "You aren't backstage" or some other lame excuse, so why bother?

I find it so funny when some people get all bothered when someone says a certain wrestler is on roids. Hell, just about everybody who's been in the business since the late 70's-early 80's has stuck a needle in their ass at least once in their career.

I don't personally think angle's on steroids just because i don't want to take a pessimistic view on it for once and i don't think he looks that much bigger anyway.

Besides if he is and he's going back he's fucked when they catch him and this is the worst news because i believe the only way the wwe can mean anything again is to basically build the company around angle as he is the single most entertaining wrestler there is at the moment but they persist in putting him in a fued with edge! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Sorry, anyway i think angle should fued with hogan in a battle of the american heroes like they teased on smackdown, hogan puts him over, angle becomes the heel god ala hhh in 99 except angle doesn't suck.

And yes aussie taker mark cathy does rule!!!!

He can still cycle them out of his system by the time the games start, but it's just going to create one more challenge for him in trying to get himself back into the amature wrestling mentality. He'll probably have to unlearn a lot of things that have made him a great pro wrestler, just like he had to do vice versa when he jumped to the WWF.

On an unrelated note, what are the chances of the WWE giving Mark Henry two years off to go train for the Olympics? Four years? Twenty years?

Grumble!

Man, I just hope he can come back when the Olympics are through. I'm sure the IOC is pleased, though; Angle's presence is sure to boost ratings a bit for the Wrestling competition. I know I'll be watching.

Stock response to this thread.

Blah blah blah won't make it out of the country yadda yadda yadda too big, probably won't make 211 etc etc etc too small for 264 w00t w00t w00t at 211 might have a chance, but won't win gold.

Good for Kurt. It's not like the WWE is doing anything you know, useful with him anyway, so he's not really missing anything while he trains. Plus this can be HUGE for him and the WWE if he wins. When he comes back and feuds with Albert, he can tell the HOSS that he is a DOUBLE medalist!

Posted

I think this was posted before but I'll comment here too...

I really hope he does well becuase if he doesn't he'll probably be stuck in years of Edge's jokes (if he comes back to the WWE).

I hope this earns wrestling more air time on TV though.  I saw like what?  A few clips from some matches at the last Olympics... nothing more.

and then, He will be jobbed out to either Billy or Chuck. You know by time Kurt comes back Billy Gunn will be in a middle of a "MEGA SINGLES PUSH!"

Hey, don't blame me! Steph & Triple H do the writing.

A Double Olympic Gold Medalist. Not too many people care about the National or whatever he has.

So when he comes back will it be a feud with

Edge

Albert

Test

Billy

Chuck

Val Venis

A main eventer (HA!)

Don't forget those Wacky Tag Team, Smackdown, Main events which are Ratings Extravaganzas, where it will be Kurt's first match back and he teams with Mark Henry to face Triple H & Edge. Of Course, Because Kurt will have to pay his dues all over again he loses to the Pedigree.

i'm with angle all the way on this one.  he's always set insane goals for himself, & he's achieved them because he works so god damn hard.  i don't really think the pessimists on this board understand, this is something that angle has decided to do for himself.  i'm not really in a position to say whether or not he can do it, since i don't follow amateur wrestling, but if this is something he feels like he can do, than what is there to lose?  he's already achieved his goal with the wwF, and he may feel now that the fed has more to offer him in terms of a comfortable living than a personal challenge.  angle appears to be a person who thrives on personal challenges, and i admire him for it.

Amidst all this talk, I haven't heard anyone say that this is a really bad idea to start with.  First, Angle is doing pretty well in the WWF and making lots of money.  If he goes off to the Olympics it is a "Ken Shamrock returning to shootfights" level fuck up.  The only chance this would have of paying off for him would be for him to win the gold medal again and then come back to the WWF as a conquering hero and get the title IMMMEDIATELY.

Really, if he is going to the Olympics again I don't see why anyone would badmouth the WWF for feuding him with Edge.  Why put a guy who is leaving for 2 years in the main event?

I hope Angle does well. This could be big for him & the WWE. If Angle wins, Vince will brag about this until the day he dies. Angle will probably have crossover appeal in the mainstream media for winning. I think a lot of the wrestlers will be out to get him, so to speak, because people think more of pro wrestling (WWE). Especially if he gets all sort of media attention. Which I would expect.

Angle is a two time gold medalist Chorous of boos isnt talking about the two NCAA titles he won he is talking about the Olympic Gold Medal and the 1995 World Championships which is basically the same as an Olympic Gold medal.

This is a total risk for Angle. I wish him all the luck in the world, but if you guys think he is being de-pushed now, think of what happens if he doesn't even make it past the trials. Plus, I think he is on roids. He does have a lot of time between now and the olympics to get them out of his system, but if we are to go by the HHH rationale of using steroids, then Angle is on them too. He has gotten only bigger in the last year and he has visible acne on his back and shoulders. I've seen it up close at a house show and on tv lately. The acne thing is the scale a lot of posters here use, so I'll use it too. (althugh it could be just genetics for both Angle and HHH in regards to the acne)

Angle has been a trained athlete/Wrestler, since he was a young Teenager. He knows how to work out his body. He knows how to eat, train and lift weights to either get cut-up or to bulk up. Look at his body, he didn't get cut-up like steroids make you do. He just bulked up his muscle mass. So, NO! I don't believe Kurt is on Steroids.

Think about it, he was trained by some of the best trainers. For God Sakes, he was in the Olympics! I'm sure he learned a thing or two about keeping heathly and weight lifting without Steroids.

I'm glad Kurt is trying to win the gold again, but I find it ironic that he just signed a 3 year contract extension with the WWE only a few months before he first mentioned competing in the Olympics in two years.

The real winner in this is going to be Olympic wrestling.  When is the only time wrestling makes it on camera?  When that big freaky Russian guy had gone undefeated for like, his whole career.  The Olympics love stories and characters, where is it going to find a better character than Angle or a better story than pro wrassler trying to go back to the real thing?  Its  GOLD, JERRY GOLD!!!

I told my dad that Angle was going back to the Olympics and he told me he could see Kurt losing and Vince sending the Undertaker out to run in.

Scary thing: So can I. :)
