Guest Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 Ah...what's the big hoopla about the signing of Rey Mysterio, Jr.? For what I remember, Rey stopped having great matches in early '99 with Kidman, and against the likes of Benoit/Malenko and Raven/Saturn for the tag belts in WCW. After that, the guy went into programs with...The West Texnas Rednecks, crappy matches. Lenny Lane and Lodi, crappy matches. Lower card cruiserweights like Psychosis, Karagias, and Disco, and again, more crappy matches. Basically, my point is, Rey lost a lot of the agility and dynamic movesets he once had in WCW from 96-98. There was really no interest in him in WCW when it ended...save for one match he had with Flair for the WCW Heavyweight Title on Nitro one time...all he ever looked like was mini-Konnan. Does anyone really wanna see him back? Personally, I'd love to see him get squashed by Jericho. Imagine the 1998-esque hilarity that would ensue: Jericho: "Look, RON Mysterious...I am the living legend...JUNIOR!" Michael Cole: "He called him Ron! What does that mean?!?!? Stay tuned!!!" Tazz: "Holy Smokes, Michael Cole!"
Guest Brian Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 Rey rbings something totally different to the table as a wrestler. The WWF needs to promote a lot of different styles for the cruiserweight division. He can be carried by a good heel.
Guest Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 While he may not have been the same, remember he did have surgery on his knee around that time so he's bound to have slowed down a bit but he's still quite an athletic cruiserweight. Once he gets going with some of the guys in the division, he should be able to really get some attention put on it.
Guest redbaron51 Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 Put him on Smackdown he's got good matches against Kidman, Tajiri, Lance Storm...etc...
Guest Brian Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 Yes, he has. Malenko's lobbying for a big debut.
Guest Human Fly Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 Good, I haven't seen him wrestle lately but I'm sure that he can still get a big pop from the crowd and do decent work. He would give the CW division in the WWF(E) a legitimacy that it hasn't had......ever. Besides Kidman, Hurricane, and Tajiri it doesn't seem like there are any other wrestlers in the division.
Guest Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 Yes, Affleck WAS the BOMB in Phantoms... yo. But see, Mysterio can make ANY cruiserweight...well, maybe not ANY cruiserweight look HELLA good. With the three that are big in the division right now...and maybe the addition of Moore and Knoble could make it watchable. WE need some more international people to do this stuff though. Bring in some MPro people with TAKA's return to make Kai En Tai 3.0.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 I can see Mysterio being brought in to be the arch nemisis of Hurricane "I will get you MYSTERIO!". This, of course, would be typical of the Wwf since they love to make their own creations. Ah well, its better than gangsta thug rey rey. In 2001 Rey was all Lyger'd up with a more 'strong' offense and some basic high flyin moves. It was enjoyable.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted May 12, 2002 Report Posted May 12, 2002 And you have to remember how good Rey Jr. is even when he's not 100%. He's going to be the Benoit of the CW division. Carrying anything that moves to a good match. Hmm.....Benoit vs. Rey.....
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted May 13, 2002 Report Posted May 13, 2002 Rey needs a new gimmick though. That mini-Konnan thing was horrible.
Guest Raven_Effect01 Posted May 13, 2002 Report Posted May 13, 2002 Rey needs a new gimmick though. That mini-Konnan thing was horrible. I know. The way he copied Konnan and said "Ahhh yeah" annoyed the hell out of me. The problem is, I don't think he could go back to being masked again because most wrestling fans already know what he looks like under it. I'm hoping he'll have a good character when he debuts in WWE.
Guest Posted May 13, 2002 Report Posted May 13, 2002 Rey lost the ability to do good matches because his quality opponents was fading in the distance Guerrero Benoit Malenko Saturn was gone.. Russo was firing and or Deporting most of the Luchadors hardly anyone was left to puton a decent match for him. couldn't even fight kidman cuz they slappedthat tag team together. And in the WWF it may very well be the same problem... because Vince is still too hung up on his main eventers and his heavyweights, there is only One cruiserweight match a week,... On the show they CLAIM was gonna be driven by the cruiserweights. But all we seen so far is Tajiri, Kidman, and they broke up the Monotany recently with Helms. Come on... if you got the guys and you CLAIM your gonna have a Cruiserweight division let them wrestle and Unbind their hands... because half the moves we love too see from them we probably not gonna see cuz of the WWF's suffocating unwritten law that demands that no low or midcarder out shine their Main Eventers
Guest Posted May 13, 2002 Report Posted May 13, 2002 Why is Taka not coming back? I heard something about him signing an extension!
Guest Smeghead Posted May 13, 2002 Report Posted May 13, 2002 Why is Taka not coming back? I heard something about him signing an extension! That was an angle they did in TAKA's new promotion (I forget what it's called). The WWF sent...dammit! The WWE sent him a new contract, but he chose not to sign. He's not coming back. I'll miss him, but I can't really blame him for wanting to work in Japan. They at least know how to use him.
