Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted May 21, 2002 Report Posted May 21, 2002 The HHH/Austin & Jericho/Benoit tag team match where Chris & Chris took the titles. Still hasn't been a tag match in the fed since then that has been anywhere close to the quality of that match. And Austin was *so* awesome back then. That is all.
Guest Posted May 21, 2002 Report Posted May 21, 2002 This Thursday is 3 years since Owen's Death, also.
Guest Posted May 21, 2002 Report Posted May 21, 2002 I really thought that tag match was the turning point in the company when it happened. Of course, within a month, two of the four guys were injured, and the Invasion kicked in. Ah what could have been. ---------------------- http://www.americasguest.cjb.net
Guest Posted May 21, 2002 Report Posted May 21, 2002 Something that's often overlooked in that match was the crowd involvement. The fans were into the match from start to finish. And just who were the fans rallying around to defeat main stays like HHH and Austin? That's right, Benoit and Jericho. They were so over that the fans were cheering their little hearts out for them even though they were up against two former fan favorites. If Vince and company ever thinks twice about pushing new stars (Angle, Jericho, RVD) he should watch this match to prove himself wrong.
Guest Sakura Posted May 21, 2002 Report Posted May 21, 2002 Pushing people based on pops leads to things like Hogan as Champ.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted May 21, 2002 Report Posted May 21, 2002 It's amazing how a year ago they were putting on some of the most enjoyable tv they have ever done...and now it's just tv Nyquil. And the stuff after that with Austin, Vince, and Kurt was they funniest stuff they have ever done.
Guest Posted May 22, 2002 Report Posted May 22, 2002 I also went to ge see Smackdown the day after, it was oaky.
Guest Posted May 22, 2002 Report Posted May 22, 2002 Of course, within a month, two of the four guys were injured, and the Invasion kicked in. Ah what could have been. Don't forget about Austin, he broke his hand and a bone in his back around King of the Ring. He couldn't wrestle a full time schedule until at least Summerslam.
Guest godthedog Posted May 23, 2002 Report Posted May 23, 2002 it's amazing that the wwF could put on tag matches like this every week if they just stick to the formula: put a face in peril, tease the tag a lot, do lots of near-falls when the other face gets the tag. it's so simple, it's such an easy way to put heat on the heels & put the faces over, and yet it almost NEVER happens. instead, we get these dinky little 2-minute matches that have absolutely no story in & of themselves.
Guest Posted May 24, 2002 Report Posted May 24, 2002 To this day, when I think about those Kurt-Vince-Austin skits, I stilll laugh. With the WWE's pathetic attempts at comedy over these past few months...sigh.
