Last night's edition of Smackdown scored a 3.3 broadcast rating last night, with a 6 share, according to Nielsen Media Research.  That is a shockingly low number for WWE that tied for its third lowest number ever.  Smackdown's low point came on May 2, 2002 when they scored a 2.9.  The show had done a 3.6 the last three weeks in a row.  The show did a 3.2 on 6/14/01.  On Thanksgiving of 2000 and 2001 the show did a 3.3.  As I said today in the Daily Lariat, ratings trends take time to go up and down, so WWE needs to realize they have to plot a course and stay it to work their way back up.

I hope the geniuses at the WWE don't take this as a sign to change directions AGAIN... I hope that they've learned lessons from the past, but maybe that's too much to hope for. I'm sure this will of course add more fuel to the Goldberg fire as the attempt even more desperatly to sign him.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the ratings aren't going to change. It doesn't matter what the hell they do... it doesn't matter if their direction changes, the storylines make sense, everyone is putting on ***** matches everynight, or whatever... Wrestling just isn't the "in" thing right now and most likely won't be for a long time.

If they can get both shows back up to the early to mid 4s over the next few months, they'd be doing well until wrestling becomes hot again.  Summer - with little competition around - is a good time to get their shit together.

Blah...

I pray they don't change directions...cause where else are they going to go.

Now if they chose to completely overhaul and fire a bunch of dead weight..well...I don't know if it could hurt ratings.

The WWF needs to realize that by pushing new talent, the payoffs will come down the road, perhaps years.  Steve Austin started his monster push in June 1996, and it wasn't until March 1998 that they started reaping the benefits of it.

If in a month, considering we dont change directions AGAIN!, yet monday is on the horizon so it is probably time to change AGAIN!, but hopefully not. In a month, if the ratings are still that low or lower, then perhaps its time to press the panic button but I dont know besides pushing the younger talent and improving storylines what else can be done.

A year ago ratings were in the 5-6's.

Now a 4.0 would be a miracle.

Man, that really sucks. I think that Vince & the WWE pay way too much attention to the ratings as is, now we can all only pray that the quality of shows, yet again, doing veer off of track.

In my eyes, Smackdown was a really good show.
