Guest Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 Greetings from under the black Resistol hat from an Oklahoman who's looking forward to traveling to Dallas and Oklahoma City next week for WWE RAW and SmackDown!, respectively. It's certainly a departure from lovely Connecticut and the plethora of friendly folks who travel the highways and byways of the cozy Nutmeg State, but I am looking forward to it nonetheless. I attended the memorial service for Davey Boy Smith -- who passed away a couple of weeks ago in British Columbia -- this past Tuesday in Calgary. The service was very well attended and many funny stories of the British Bulldog's exploits were retold. Davey's children were wonderful speaking about their father -- who they referred to simply as "Davey" -- and the unique life they led together. Young Georgia, 13, was especially impressive, in my view, with her personally penned remarks. Son Harry is only 16 and already stands approximately 6 foot 5 and has been wrestling the professional style since he was about 8 years old. Once Harry finishes high school -- he's currently a 10th grader -- there is no doubt he will be provided an opportunity to perform for World Wrestling Entertainment. Several of Stu Hart's grandchildren seem to have the potential to be WWE Superstars some day, also, including one of Jim Neidhart's daughters. Time will tell, but I hope these kids simply enjoy being kids and try not to grow up too fast. Being someone who has two daughters in their 20s, I know that's easier said then done. Tuesday was the first time I have had the opportunity to see Bret "Hitman" Hart in person since he left WWE in 1997. He looked healthy and had some very nice things to say about his former brother-in-law. I did not get the opportunity to speak with Bret personally, but I would have liked to, as I always enjoyed our many conversations together; however, a memorial service is not the place to renew a strained relationship. I sincerely wish the Hart family all the happiness they deserve, especially the young Harts, who have their entire lives ahead of them. Bottom line is that Davey's untimely death seemed so unnecessary. The Bulldog was only 39 when he passed away. Injury update ... Edge popped his shoulder out of socket during the Cage Match on SmackDown!, and the pain intensified the next morning. He saw the Maple Leafs' team doctor in Toronto, who reset the dislocated shoulder. An MRI today revealed a torn labrum that may require surgery and will greatly reduce his in-ring activities until after rehab or surgery. Maven broke his fibula during his match with Christian on SmackDown!, and displayed great toughness in finishing the match in spite of the pain. Maven was given a soft cast and is expected to be out four to six weeks. Diamond Dallas Page received a third opinion from a doctor this week, who stated he would not recommend that DDP return to the ring. Dr. Youngblood cleared DDP to return a few weeks ago but said surgery may be needed if he does continue in the ring. Rhyno saw Dr. Youngblood yesterday, who confirmed that everything is right on track with Rhyno's neck fusion. Rhyno will return to Dr. Youngblood's office in about three months, at which time we're hoping he'll be cleared to begin light workouts, and perhaps return to the ring a few months after that. Kanyon is at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) in Louisville, Ky., working out in the ring and having no problems with his surgically repaired knee. Chris Benoit continues his in-ring workouts in Atlanta around his TV and appearance schedule. Dr. Lloyd Youngblood expects Chris to be able to return to full action by the end of June. Kevin Nash will hopefully visit Dr. James Andrews' office in Birmingham, Ala., on or around June 11 for an evaluation on his torn right biceps. We expect him to be released to full duty soon after that appointment. Eddie Guerrero got a cut in his mouth on Monday. He is now doing OK and should not need any medical treatment. Referee Tim White's shoulder is feeling better this week, and the swelling has gone down. He has begun using some light weights, and his therapist feels it's doubtful that he has further damage in the shoulder. Tim will be having the MRI done on Wednesday to make sure everything is OK. Scotty 2 Hotty returns to see Dr. Youngblood on June 11; Lita's next appointment with Dr. Youngblood is in about a month. Both superstars hope to be able to get out of their hard collars and begin using soft ones at their next appointments. All other injured competitors are healing on schedule with no new updates this week. Random thoughts and opinions ... The Rock will be presenting an Essence Award to Janet Jackson tonight in Los Angeles; the show will air Thursday, June 6 at 8 p.m. on FOX. We are all trying to put our arms around The Rock's busy schedule, attempting to balance his next movie project with an abbreviated WWE schedule. At this time, the "Great One" will compete in Honolulu on June 15 -- which sold out in under two hours - in Melbourne, Australia, on Aug. 10, and, most likely, at SummerSlam at Long Island's Nassau Coliseum on Aug. 25. Other dates are being considered as well, based on scheduling and a potential 'scope of Rock's injured knee. Several color commentators will be trying out, so to speak, over the next several weeks on HEAT, Sundays on MTV. Our business does not have a lot of depth in the broadcast booth with play-by-play people or color commentators. Hopefully, someone perhaps we have not thought of will jump to the front of the line on this important role. Mark Henry is getting set to do another strongman competition and then will hopefully be able to focus fulltime on his in-ring work. We are in the process of drastically increasing Mark's wrestling practice schedule with agent Fit Finlay over the next few weeks. Horace Hogan was provided a developmental contract with WWE and assigned to Cincinnati but has left camp to return to Tampa, Fla., to address some personal issues. He needs lots of ring time and will hopefully be back in HWA very soon to determine if he is going to make it to the primary WWE roster. The rehash of the controversial Montreal Survivor Series did a surprisingly good TV rating on last Saturday night's premiere of WWE Confidential. Confidential was an excellent first effort and is a program I will want to watch every Saturday night if it stays on its current course. Final note on the Montreal fiasco: referee Earl Hebner, famous in some circles for the "You Screwed Bret" chant, has apparently passed on this legacy to his son and fellow referee Brian Hebner, who heard "Your Daddy Screwed Bret" throughout the recent Canadian tour last week. The Fabulous Moolah's autobiography will be out in August. Could be a helluva read if Moolah (Lillian Ellison) can remember all the great stories that have occurred in her LONG career. Speaking personally, the older we get the more we forget -- or is it that we simply refuse to remember the less-than-positive times in our careers/lives? Hulk Hogan's book will be released in October and, from what I have heard, is going to be a good read. Hogan has tons of stories to tell and, hopefully, will tell them completely. Jerry "The King" Lawler's autobiography -- which will trace his life and career quite thoroughly -- will be released in December. The King's unique life and lifestyle while competing for decades in the Memphis territory should be a fascinating read if, again, he is willing to really tell the complete story of his life. I am told that "Classy" Freddie Blassie's life story, scheduled for a March 2003 release, is going to be a real dandy! The stories author Keith Elliot Greenberg has heard from the legendary Blassie are classics, as the Hall-of-Fame grappler has held absolutely nothing back. This book will never be turned into a made-for-TV movie on the Disney Channel but will be an awesome read for our more mature fans. The WWE cookbook, "Can You Take the Heat?", now available in paperback, is doing very well and I, personally, really am thankful for that. I will be writing a BBQ/Grilling/Country Cookin' book for a May 2003 release that will also include many of the experiences I have had over my career that began in the 1970s. My autobiography is currently scheduled to come out in 2004, and I plan on telling a very thorough account of my life and career in this oftentimes wacky business. Congratulations to the two Tough Enough 2 winners, Linda Miles and Jackie Gayda, and best of luck to each as they prepare to begin their WWE careers. They will probably be assigned to OVW but that decision has not been finalized. They both have competitive attitudes, but now we will truly see if they have the aptitude for sports entertainment that they must have to make it long term in this business. RAW was highlighted by an awesome Ladder Match between Eddie Guerrero and Rob Van Dam; SmackDown! was highlighted by the Cage Match between Kurt Angle and Edge. These are four tremendous talents who should continue to be featured on our broadcasts as we continue to reload the WWE machine. The future of any sports-entertainment company is building with young, athletic talents and providing our audience with new stars and new rivalries. We have several outstanding younger talents who I personally feel will be provided an opportunity to strut their stuff in upcoming weeks. Upcoming house show (non-televised) matches include Stone Cold Steve Austin and Hogan teaming at the MCI Center in Washington, D.C. (Friday, June 28) and Madison Square Garden (Saturday, June 29). Even though Hogan is a SmackDown! talent and these are RAW events, Hogan was advertised to be on these shows while he was WWE Champion, and we are going to provide our fans with what we have promoted/advertised as best as we possibly can. Other house-show contests in June include some Austin-Ric Flair one-on-one matches, which I am looking forward to. RVD vs. Undertaker and Bubba Ray Dudley vs. Brock Lesnar will also be highlighted on upcoming RAW events. Combinations of Triple H, Angle, Edge, and Chris Jericho will highlight SmackDown! live events in June. Several developmental talents will be seeing duty on WWE house shows over the next several weeks, including Jamie Knoble, Shannon Moore, Shelton Benjamin, Rob Conway, John (Prototype) Cena, Ron Waterman, Sean O'Haire and Victoria. Other developmental talents will be put in house-show lineups going forward as well. Expect to see many new faces introduced on WWE TV over the summer, some starting very soon. Deacon Bautista is a product of OVW and is progressing about as we thought. This athlete has a significant amount of marketable potential and simply needs a great deal of experience before the jury returns its verdict on him. Getting comfortable in his new environment and developing self-confidence are two of the primary issues being addressed currently with the "Deacon." Al Snow, Ivory and Hugh Morrus will be the instructors on Tough Enough III, which will begin airing on MTV in September. Nice to see Dawn Marie get an opportunity on SmackDown!, and it will be interesting to see where her TV persona takes her. Expect Rey Mysterio Jr. to debut on SmackDown! sooner than later. I saw Rey compete recently in Louisville and he really looked good in a match with OVW Champion Nova, who has also impressed folks close to the product. The creative we utilize to introduce or to reintroduce WWE talents into our TV mix is crucial, but it has really always been that way -- or at least it has since I have been in the business. First impressions are important and should be impactful. Tommy Dreamer had an interesting outing on RAW, and I hope this leads to more significant TV time for the former ECW icon, who is one of the hardest working and deserving talents we have on our roster. Hey, do you remember D'Lo Brown? Brock Lesnar should be getting ready for even bigger and better things as this former NCAA National Champion is destined for greatness and could have a long and rewarding run as WWE Champion in the future. Time will obviously tell on this physically gifted talent and, hopefully, he will be allowed to develop his skills and not be thrust into the main-event spotlight before he is ready, as we have seen promotions do in the past. Someday, I would love to see Lesnar compete with a non-nerdy Kurt Angle for the WWE Undisputed Championship. The nWo seemed to begin reversing a negative trend last week on RAW, and it will be interesting to see if they can recapture the magic this logo once had. With Kevin Nash speaking largely for this antagonist group, things looks somewhat more promising. We really need for this group or a comparable group of talent to catch fire and get people talking. Again, I am looking forward to getting back to "God's Country" next week as we travel to the southwest and do RAW in Dallas and SmackDown! from my home state of Oklahoma. My last couple of trips back to OKC have not been overwhelmingly rewarding for yours truly, being battered and bloodied by Stone Cold and then kissing Mr. McMahon's ass the next trip. Hopefully, history will not repeat itself and I can enjoy my visit with family and friends, who probably enjoyed my "misfortunes" more than I realize. I can always drown my sorrows in BBQ Sauce if things get too challenging. Take care and I hope to see you here next week. J.R. (BOOMER SOONER)

Any opinions on who they will have Rock work with at SummerSlam? I know I'm biased but I would love to see Rock come back to build up another feud with Jericho. Only this time the end of the match will see Jericho finally beat Rock clean without any controversy. I have no doubt that Rock would agree to it. The only question is if the WWE would go for it or would they try and push Rock to come back and put over Triple H or Hulk Hogan clean. You know, give them the much needed rub. IF they spend the next two months building Jericho back up (again) then I think there's a chance they could reignite the magic they had with this feud earlier this year and late last year. I'm amused at J.R.'s word choice in talking about Horace Hogan's developmental contract. And I think he recycled that last quote from last week's Report. Seems like some weeks even the strongest shills give up trying to explain what's going on.

If Rock comes back at SummerSlam, it's going to have a "one time only" feel to it, and having Rock lose with the momentum and popularity he has, would KILL the crowd and would not help in the long run, no matter how many of us want to see him lose

Hmmmm, could this be a stab at WCW's push of Goldberg?
Guest papacita Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 So when's the new Chyna book coming out? Just asking...

Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 Hey, do you remember D'Lo Brown? I think J.R.'s getting a little sardonically self-deprecating in his old age.
Guest bcu1979 Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 No way! If Rock comes back at SummerSlam, it's going to have a "one time only" feel to it, and having Rock lose with the momentum and popularity he has, would KILL the crowd and would not help in the long run, no matter how many of us want to see him lose I disagree. Rock has lost plenty of times and he's always remained extremely popular. The fact that Rock is not sticking around for the long term is exactly why he should lose. Jericho or Angle or Triple H or whoever he wrestles has to go on the road each weekend and draw money. If he's going to come back and win a big match, then stick him in there with Vince. It would be ridiculous to bring Rock back and not have him put over someone clean and create a new superstar. When Rock comes back later for a big match to promote his next movie, then maybe you think about giving him him the win. But the main point of Rock coming back for SummerSlam should be to help create a new star that the WWE can build around while Rock is filming his latest movie. Yes, I know the main point is to bring up the sagging buyrates. But the WWE should take advantage of the situation. As for the crowd, Vince/Hogan will most likely be on the show to make sure all the fans go home happy. And they could always go for a Hogan/Rock respect ending where whoever beats Rock becomes a face.

Its painful enough to recap Heat for this site (Cheap plug), and now I have to deal with Jackie this week and god knows what in the following weeks. GODDAMNIT!!!!!!

Guest godthedog Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 fuck. fuck fuck fuck fuck. my house shows are ALWAYS RUINED BY INJURIES! Edge popped his shoulder out of socket during the Cage Match on SmackDown!, and the pain intensified the next morning. He saw the Maple Leafs' team doctor in Toronto, who reset the dislocated shoulder. An MRI today revealed a torn labrum that may require surgery and will greatly reduce his in-ring activities until after rehab or surgery. and edge was supposed to headline with angle. last year the house show i went to was supposed to have CHRIS BENOIT V. STEVE AUSTIN, but they both got hurt so we got stuck with shit. i'm getting so sick of this shit with injuries, the wwF needs to tone their style down now.
Guest The Son of Sting Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 Rock vs Lesner at Summerslam is what i would do.
Guest El Satanico Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 i'm getting so sick of this shit with injuries, the wwF needs to tone their style down now. I hope you're being sarcastic with that.
Guest Brian Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 The problem isn't with the style. It's probably one of the safest styles the have. They work a lot of dates with bad ropes (that cause alot of ACL and knee injuries) with alot of matches that rely on big, hardcore like spots to compliment the shortcomings of the style.

Putting them on actual tv is a better way to see if they have the ability then doing it to a tape in a room with just WWeee officials. Now i just hope that they will have decent people that have a chance of finding a spot on tv. Maybe they will put a few surprises(guys that have done it before) in among the "try outs". Haha i love the "Your daddy screwed Bret" chants...that rules all. If Hogan's, Lawler's or Blassie's are tell all hold nothing back type books then i'll buy them. If they are kiss ass books that talk about stuff but doesn't tell all the dirt then fuck them.
Guest Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 I have the Lawler RF Shoot and he put me to sleep. He was a lot more boring then I ever expected. I pray his book is better.
