Guest Risk Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 This is an interesting thought I had: What if the WWF and WCW were never created? What if Vince McMahon Sr. never created the WWF? What if Turner never bought any NWA territories? What would the landscape of wrestling right now look like? Obviously there would be no idiotic gimmicks, but what else? This is an important post, so if you reply, try to go into detail about what you think would have happened.
Guest Just call me Dan Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 What if you were never born? Your parents just didn't have you? Who would have created this post?
Guest Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 No ECW No Hogan No nWo No HHH No McMahons No Goldberg No Dungeon of Doom No big stupid hosses No Smartmarks board
Guest treble charged Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 There would be 2086 people who would have to find something else to do rather than come on this board and complain about wrestling.
Guest Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 There would be 2086 people who would have to find something else to do rather than come on this board and complain about wrestling. If the smartmarks board was created ayway, there would be 2086 people claiming that there territory is better than the other persons. Also: No Anglesault No OAOAST
Guest notJames Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 Eventually one or two big federations would have come out on top above all the other indies. Someone with the money to burn and a love of the sport would have gotten the ball rolling, if not Vinnie Mac and Billionaire Ted. Who knows? The Jarretts and Lawlers might have been the big two. Or the Von Erichs and the Harts. Strange, no?
Guest treble charged Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 Also: No Anglesault No OAOAST Yes, that WOULD be a major ramification of no WWF or WCW.
Guest Black Tiger Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 Well seeing as WWF was originaly a Northeastern Regional promotion that would mean no wrestling in the Northeast. WCW was created when Crockett merged his Mid Atlantic with Ole Anderson's Georiga and bought out other regions. Smartmarks would still be around since Meltzer paved the way for us with the Observer which was in existence since 1980. ECW would have been even bigger since in was Northeast based. I think the biggest promoters would have been: Bill Watts' Mid-South/UWF Jerry Jarrett's CWA/USWA David Woods' CWF Beb Geigal's Central States The deaths of AWA, WCCW, Georgia, Florida, and MAYBE PNW would have been inevitable for Gange's booking, Von Erich's deaths, and Dusty and Ole's even worse booking. PNW may have survived but they were done when Don Owens passed away in 1993
Guest Risk Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 What if my aunt had testicles? Hi. Welcome to a serious discussion. Seriously, this is a serious discussion, if you're going to act like an ass, do it on your own time. Good points by Black Tiger. I think Watts may have had an advantage with Mid-South, but then again, STAMPEDE had Bret AND Owen. You also have to take into account that most stupid gimmicks in DIFFERANT promotions were partially inspired by Vinnie Mac's "family Friendly" television.
Guest Just call me Dan Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 If you read my reply, it is much like Spicy's in that it asks an off the wall question. This is a topic we have never really but thoughts into, but it is kind of an outlandish question. We could go on and on about what if this didn't happen, it is almost pointless. A better proposed question would be like which promotion either existing ir not anymore could have had the potential to be one of the big 2 other than WWF or WCW. You were just aksing hey, what if the wrestling federation we watch wasn't there? See what I mean?
Guest Posted May 31, 2002 Report Posted May 31, 2002 Wrestling would've continued to exist, albeit most likely in a smaller form with of course, a different style. Wrestling existed long before the original NWA came into play (National Wrestling Association, not Alliance) and I'm sure wrestling would still be around. No one can of course say for sure whether wrestling would be as big or bigger today because there's always a possibility that someone would've come along and revolusionised it the way McMahon did

Guest Risk Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 Thanks for moving the thread back, Tony. Now that that's over, we can continue the discussion.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 I don't know much about the historical aspect, but in regards to your comment that there would obviously be no "idiotic gimmicks", I have to disagree. In fact, since each individual promotion could be lazier and take advantage of just the demographics within its own area, I'd think there would be more idiotic gimmicks. Also, if there was no unified federation, the competition amongst all the indy federations, instead of being "us vs. the WWF" would be "every fed for themselves", so there would be more "cutting-edge" dangerous or "idiotic" gimmicks and matches because as much as you may dislike them, those draw. Sorry, that's really the only thing I know about to reply, but it seems like such an important topic. I know personally, I probably never would've gotten into wrestling if WWF and WCW hadn't made it such a fixed pop culture element. That definitely would never have happened in America were there no big unified federations.
Guest Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 If there were no national promotions, wrestling would never be as mainstream as it's become. The wwf's rock'n wrestling of the 80's helped move wrestling from bars and high school gyms to huge arenas and helped establish television shows. Yes, there was wrestling on television beforehand, but it was usually local feds hyping their shows. If wcw and wwf were never created, the nwa would probably still end up like it is today because other promoters would have tried expanding their territories and controlling the wrestling market like Vince did.
Guest Black Tiger Posted June 1, 2002 Report Posted June 1, 2002 I have to disagree with Evenflows comments. The NWA title would still be the #1 title in the US if not for WWF and WCW being created. The boards would have people saying how the top guy in their region ought to be the NWA champion and not the guy who has it now. Instead of the current chatter about who the WWE champion is and who ought to beat him for it.
Guest Posted June 2, 2002 Report Posted June 2, 2002 Scary as it may be, I'm trying to remember the only time I'd flip through channels here and watch wrestling that wasn't WWF or WCW/NWA.... I'D BE WATCHING XPW!!!!!!AUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! *hugs Austin foam finger*

Guest Risk Posted June 2, 2002 Report Posted June 2, 2002 They also had...JASON THE TERRIBLE~! ...Ahem, yeah...Anyways, it would have been cool if STAMPEDE had gotten bigger.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted June 2, 2002 Report Posted June 2, 2002 Scary as it may be, I'm trying to remember the only time I'd flip through channels here and watch wrestling that wasn't WWF or WCW/NWA.... I'D BE WATCHING XPW!!!!!!AUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I think XPW is the perfect example of how far an indy show would have to go to get their name out if there were still a million different indy feds. The WWE is just so big that even if they bring exploding cage matches and 30-foot scaffolding matches or whatever sick stuff they put on their shows it's not enough to really get them well-known, and with a million different feds, if they wanted to get well-known outside of their area (and I know they would, of all feds), they'd have scaffold matches every week onto exploding flaming tables. Then again, if there was never a WWF/WCW, ECW would probably be the largest federation in the country and would just sue XPW for infringement. Not to mention the only XPW wrestlers "worth watching" would still be in ECW.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted June 2, 2002 Report Posted June 2, 2002 They also had...JASON THE TERRIBLE~! What's wrong wi... oh, it's Risk talking, he hates idiotic gimmicks. Actually, this is off topic Risk, but what do you think makes a good gimmick? I understand and mostly agree with why you don't like the concept of heels and faces, but what's wrong with idiotic gimmicks as long as they're entertaining? Isn't that all that matters in a gimmick?
Guest RetroRob215 Posted June 2, 2002 Report Posted June 2, 2002 What if my aunt had testicles? She wouldn't be your aunt
Guest Risk Posted June 2, 2002 Report Posted June 2, 2002 Because I like realism, and thus, like realistic gimmicks. That's all.
