Guest Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 I think Coachman is getting to uppidy as a announcer. Him making fun of Raven on Heat??? How many years has Coachman been in a wrestling ring??? Gorilla and Jesse were both wrestlers so at least there is some equality between two. But here Coach the Shill machine rattles on and on, Raven should just Evenflow him to the floor and then quit.
Guest Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 What about him making sex jokes with about ZERO emotion or charisma? At Jacqueline no less? *shudders at image of coach and jackie together...eewww*
Guest Human Fly Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 How does the WWF watch tapes of their shows when Michael Cole and the Coach are on commentary and say "these guys do a good job". You know someone has to like them or else they wouldn't have been around for years............and years, and years. Why won't the WWF hire Joey Styles?
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 Why won't the WWF hire Joey Styles? Because he's not much better.
Guest Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 What do you mean Joey isn't that much better? At least he has CHARISMA! Coach has as much charisma as Lance Storm and Chris Benoit's bastard child
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 I don't care if the guy has more charisma than The Rock. He annoyed the hell out of me. And his righteous "ECW can do no wrong" attitude annoyed me even more. I hate his announcing.
Guest buffybeast Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 C,mon, Coach isn't THAT bad or else he wouldn't still have a job. And Coach's comments towards Raven was scripted, I'm sure.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 Coach id one of those guys that pisses me off whatever he does, squatting when interviewing people, wearing denim shirts, ARRGGH.
Guest Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 Its just Coachman antagonizes Raven scripted or not, there isn't anything stopping Raven from beating the crap out of him. At least with the Tazz Cole dynamic, there was some on air rapport that developed, and that when Stone Cold kicked Cole's A## Tazz was gonna go after Austin for it. Problem is that was right before of Invasion and the Whole Pathetic Angle Ruined a perfect opportunity.
Guest Risk Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 Like him or not, Styles is the best commentator today. "...because it's the best thing going today! Whooo!"-Ric Flair
Guest Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 At least he has CHARISMA! Coach has as much charisma as Lance Storm and Chris Benoit's bastard child Argh. How many times must it be explained that charisma has NOTHING to do with mic skills?
Guest Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 He sounded like gold sitting next to Jackie....... (Yes, I know that doesn't REALLY make sense)
Guest Just call me Dan Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 Read the Byte This report with Coach's comments on what he would have done if he were in the hot tub with Tough Enough 2's Jackie. What a dork.
Guest franchise632 Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 Why won't the WWF hire Joey Styles? Because he's not much better. Actually its because Joey has turned them down on several occasions because he is making more money in the corporate work that he is doing right now and is not on the road all the time. I would love for Joey to be brought in and possiblty groomed to replace JR in a few years. I love JR but i dont think i will want to hear him calling matches in 3 or 4 years.

Guest dreamer420 Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 I like the coach. He is showing potential in my books, but he does need to focus on the matches taking place in the ring, and not the ones that took place a week ago.
Guest Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 I don't think Joey Styles would fare much better than Cole or Coachman. Not because I didn't like Joey's style (hah! PUN!) on ECW broadcasts, but because I believe the problem with Cole and Coachman isn't Cole and Coachman. It's bigger than that. I mean, the broadcasters have to work "WWF style" every bit as much as the wrestlers do. They too are characters whose public image is closely controlled and engineered by the WWF's "brain trust" (the same people who came up with such dynamic plot wrinkles as Triple H's pet bulldog Lucy). Do they shill for all sorts of useless crap instead of paying attention to the match in front of them? Of course! But you'll notice that so do Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross. I don't think Michael Cole and Jonathan Coachman could possibly be as clueless and retarded as they act. They both happen to look the part rather well, though, I'll admit. But conventional WWE wisdom seems to conclude that the fans don't want to listen to some "nerd" who knows all the move names and facts from ancient history (like Benoit's phantom World Title Wins over The Rock in 2000). Also, their purpose is to act as commercials for the pay per view or to further advertise the main event later tonight (which apparently is the only reason we are supposed to be interested in watching the show). They're jobbers. They're there to stand around and outshine nobody while they humbly advance the storyline (such as it is). They are likely more knowledgeable than they are permitted to let on. And also, you'll notice how quickly the rug gets pulled out from broadcasters who pay too much attention to the match and call the action too much [Raven and Al Snow, who are usually buried on Velocity or lower]. That's my theory, anyway.
Guest Human Fly Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 They're not supposed to make you want to change the channel or hit the mute button either, but the thought crosses my mind every time they're on.
Guest One Bad Apple Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 I like the coach. He is showing potential in my books, but he does need to focus on the matches taking place in the ring, and not the ones that took place a week ago. Me, too. Working with Raven seemed to help him out a lot. I don't care if the guy has more charisma than The Rock. He annoyed the hell out of me. And his righteous "ECW can do no wrong" attitude annoyed me even more. I hate his announcing. He had that attitude because he worked for ECW, you idiot. And on a kinda-related note ... it seems that anytime someone mentions they'd like to see a guy who used to be in ECW get pushed, you jump on their back about how ECW's wreslters were overrated and how you hate "ECW mutants" or whatever silly term you likely lifted from someone else. And that's only one of the reasons you suck. Still.
Guest franchise632 Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 ...facts from ancient history (like Benoit's phantom World Title Wins over The Rock in 2000). since when did events of the year 2000 become ancient history?? I really love the new American "A.D.D." way of thinking about things.
Guest bcu1979 Posted June 3, 2002 Report Posted June 3, 2002 C,mon, Coach isn't THAT bad or else he wouldn't still have a job. Stephanie McMahon. Head of the creative team.
Guest Posted June 4, 2002 Report Posted June 4, 2002 Coach really isn't that bad of an announcer. Certianly better than Cole. Coach called a Raven vs. Richards match entirley by himself a few weeks back and DIDN'T stop talking the entire time. It was amazing, he just kept going through the whole match calling every move and change in momentum. I just can't stand Coach when he's trying to hype or sell something, he comes off as a total dope.

I really love the new American "A.D.D." way of thinking about things. It's not the ADD way of thinking things. It's the WWE way of thinking things. If it happened more than five months ago, it's no longer important.

Yeah, the "ancient history" bit was supposed to be a snide comment, though I guess that didn't really come across. (Unfortunately, there isn't a "Sarcasm" font)
Guest Posted June 4, 2002 Report Posted June 4, 2002 Say what you will about the announcing (I'm on the ECW bandwagon here that says Styles is better than both these guys, and I'm wondering WHY he turned down the job..), but I think Coach is actually quite charismatic as an interviewer, he's the best one they've got. We all remember his Grammy-nominated rendition of "Copa Cabana" with the Rock?
