At least the audition shows are only 1 hour the rest of the way, instead of 2.

The audition shows are awesome. Who actually cares about the "good" singers?

People that would rather see a "reality" competition rather than a "reality" freakshow where producers deliberately send bad people to the judges to smack down.

Black Lushus

Princess Leena

Starvenger

naiwf

Hawk34

C Dubya 04

Yuna Firerose

That's like an all-star team.

The two guys that befriended each other were on the Today show yesterday morning. I at first felt bad for them on the show, but after seeing them again, I wanted someone to smack them down again. Man were they annoying.

The auditions have not been anywhere near as much fun. It's either people who know they suck and want to be shown, or people who are just pitiful and you feel bad when they get mocked. Not good so far. Bring on Hollywood.

I like the audition episodes when the bad people are authentic. Not obvious plants like Zitzman, or whatever, that go on for 10+ minutes.

Exactly. Zitz, the two mentally/physically challenged buddies and Ms. Chokesondick (she wasn't wearing a bra and her tits were halfway to her knees) and her mom were just too much for one day. Just show people who suck but are still normal. Out of the 10,000 - 15,000 that audition in every city you've got maybe 100 that have any talent, 100 plants and 9,800 to 14,800 normal but delusional people. Why do we have to keep seeing nothing but plants and 1 or 2 genuinely talented singers during every audition?

Considering the show is basically a karaoke competition, at least the first few weeks are mildly entertaining because the people suck so bad. To make the show better, I think once they get down to the people who have some vocal talent, they should tell them to go write and compose their own original song, then come back and see if they could even salvage a single contestant.

what the hell?

it's HARDLY a karaoke contest...have you ever been to a karaoke bar? It's drunk people horribly butchering shitty songs...the final 12 are working with professionals to cover their own unique versions of a song. They have a full band, full back up vocals...The top pop stars of today don't even write their own songs, why would we make these people do it?

When the vast majority (read: almost all R & B, girl group, boy band singers) of artists out there don't write or compose their own original songs and still can push millions of units why would you expect an AI contestant to do so? There's a reason almost everything sounds the same these days and it's because the same writers and producers create all of the hits in those genres.

Too many freak shows are what's killing the auditions for me. I'd prefer the normal people who think they can sing, only to have their delusions shot to hell. Plus, every once in a while, it would be nice to see, y'know, the good singers. Enough of the ten second '20 people got through to the next round!!' crap.

And yay for our lil TSM team of 'Good Singers FTW!' We should get matching outfits or something.

I like being able to start making my predictions NOW....Taylor was an easy pick right from the audition show. I picked Frenchie to make it to Hollywood before she decided to do fat girl porn and I also picked Ruben to go all the way right from his audition episode.

It's probably more accurate to call it a glorified talent competition. As for original songs, naiwf does have a point. It's not something that's been a huge issue for a while. Plus vocal talent doesn't necessarily mean songwriting talent.

I've only been able to make one prediction, and that was Eva Avila in the recent Canadian Idol. I'm horrible at these things...

Ok, so what's the appeal of the show, exactly? I am assuming you aren't out there buying Ruben/Kelly/Taylor/Carrie/Clay/Hung CDs. So what is the appeal of the show really? Entertainment, I suppose. All I am doing really is explaining why I sometimes tune into the show during the first few weeks and then avoid it the rest of the way out.

The competition. There are some people who end up getting deals that never would have gotten one without AI. While I don't vote, the interactive element does it for a lot of people who watch the show. Aside from having a say in the outcome (if you don't believe the producers/Simon decide everything) it's basically the same deal as why people watch shows like Survivor, TAR, ANTM, the Contender, TUF or any other show which has contestants regularly eliminated until 1 person wins at the end.

I have both of Kelly's CDs (I don't really like the first one) which I got for cheap through BMG and a friend bought me Chris Daughtry's album for Christmas. Music is music and in those three cases their's was good enough to purchase.

The biggest reason I watch is because everyone does, and we can talk about it at work. Which is good for me as I normally stray far away from the usual popular hobbies. Lame, I know.

I like seeing a couple singers work their way from being rough into a good singer. I like judging them. The show does get boring, though... most weeks I tune in and out of it.

I fully understand the hate AI gets, though. It is crappy television. Same as all "reality" shows.

Most television is crappy, "reality" or no. And I've been cutting down quite a bit - I've committed to Mondays and Thursdays for TV, and one hour Sunday for Amazing Race, but since I'm working again and also taking a weekend course I need to put some time aside to study. Oh and some time for the wife. That's probably important, too.

Oh, gods, this girl is a perfect example of undereducated ghetto. She's so... lifeless. I can only hope this is a result of drugs.

But at least the people, so far, have been normal.

yea thats about it in a nutshell, in the same way that I watch it, then dont care about the winner after the show ends. Kelly is the only one I think that he realy broke through the mainstream to become a star on her own, not stuck with the "idol" tag. though I know Ruben and clay did ok (actually clay sold more records I think?) and Fantasia seems to be popular in the r and b genre, as well as Carrie doing great in the country markets.

tonights show has sucked so far. excpet for sundance head, not only can he sing but hes got the best name ever on idol. plus he has an awesomely bad Jericho-esque goatee

I missed the first 25 minutes or so, did anyone get through to Hollywood in that time? I managed to catch the girl that Randy said no to, but Paula and Simon put through right before that last break.
