well, what seemed very likely is now a certainty.

DDP is all done..

what are some of your memories?

my favorite time period was when the NWO was courting them and he would lay them out with the Diamond Cutters. The World War 3 when it was 4 NWO guys 4 WCW guys and DDP in the middle. and his match with Goldberg at Halloween Havoc. Goldberg's best match ever. His character/him got too overexposed for my taste and I got sick and tired, but at least he cared .. and tried

Ill choose to pretend he never really was in the WWF at all cause that makes even his worst WCW stuff look like Flair at his heyday.

I was, and still am, a big DDP fan. I know he got flak for being old, loving the spotlight and taking himself too seriously but I really like his work. I remember when he was a manager in WCW. At the time he was a really loud and larger than life character. I really liked his matches with Marc Mero in WCW in 1995 & 1996. Then of course when the nWo came in he slowly became a fan favourite who the nWo would try to get on there team. This of course lead to his great matches with Macho Man in 1997. Then in 1998 he had a great 3-Way fued with Chris Benoit and Raven. In 1999 there was the WCW Championship run, short as it was, and the formation of the triad with Bam Bam Bigelow & Kanyon which produced great tag matches against Benoit & Saturn. In 2000 we had his great matches against Jarrett for the WCW Championship. From there he career seemed to go downhill and less said about it the better. I did like some of his WWF work thought (vs. Christian WM X-8). I would like to wish DDP luck with whatever role he will now take up. DDP's retirement it's not a good thing it's a bad thing.

When DDP reversed the JackHammer into the Diamond Cutter at Halloween Havoc, man I marked like a mark.

The LaParka angle with Macho.

When Hall gave him the nWo shirt and DDP gave him the Diamond Cutter.

Managing the Freebirds.

Matches v. Sting, Goldberg, Savage, Jarrett, and Steiner were all great.

I'm gonna miss feeling the bang and seeing self high fives.

I was never a huge DDP fan but I always respected him. I think the critics have been way too hard on him in the past. You can complain about his "love for the spotlight" all you want, but in reality, it's just more of a love for the business itself. He not only lived his gimmick, he lived in wrestling period. He had a true passion for this sport/artform and was always willing to work harder than the average guy, especially at his age. I'll never forget watching one of his first WWE matches against Booker T I believe. It had been a while since I had seen Page in the ring. The match wasn't long, but DDP worked really hard and I was amazed at how quick the guy still was. It truly is a shame that Page won't get a "retirement run" and probably won't even get a retirement acknowledgement knowing the WWE

Maybe my friend was right when he told me three years ago that Page was a "Diamond in the rough."

You know what sucks? We never saw The Rock vs. DDP one on one, People's Champ vs. People's Champ

That was always one of my dream matches

Even though his WWF run wasn't all that, I remember the night he was revealed to be the stalker.  I marked like crazy and don't blame him one bit for the failure of the angle.

Actually, do u know what i remember best about DDP

Getting the book in '99, making himself World Champion, burying Benoit, going awol because he was aked to job to Bgwell, coming back on the promise of a World Title, getting said Title, going awol again because he didnt like the direction his character was going, coming back to squash the best guys in the company, etc, etc, etc

Fuck him, and i hope O'Haire gets his spot in the company

Was Beniot even in WCW when DDP won the title...

Was it not the genius of Russo that sent DDP home because he didn't want to use him?

This is truly a sad day if DDP is really retiring.  My first memory of Diamond Dallas Page was from the first WCW video I ever rented.  here is canada we didn't really start getting wcw tv until 98 or 99 so when I rented world war 3 1995 it was a new experience.  the first match on the card was ddp vs. johnny b. badd to see who would win the services of the diamond doll.  first time i saw him i thought he sucked.  he had a pair of the cheesiest tights you have ever seen on and he match wasn't that great.  so when i started tuning into wcw again i wasn't expecting much.  i remember watching the nWo trying to recruit him and ddp always stayed babyface through that entire nWo run which was good for his career I thought.  if he had been written in as a member of that group I know his career would have floundered.  the triad was a cool group since he got to team with kanyon and bam bam to win the tag titles.  afterwards his feud with kanyon was one of the funnier spots on wcw tv at that time with kanyon spoofing ddp and giving everyone the kanyon cutter.  his wwf career was look at as a bit of a disappointment in a lot of peoples eyes.  he was thrown into a stalker angle with the undertaker and after taker buryed ddp, they team kanyon up with him, so taker and kane could do some more burying.  that was the most unfortunate part of the invasion in my eyes, because here was a guy was a world champion main eventer in wcw and now he is getting pinned by sara undertaker.  fuck that.  his inspirational gimmick caught on a little and he seemed to ride that until the end of his career which is a shame because he deserved to go out better than that.

I'll miss DDP. I watched WCW since '91 so I saw his whole career.  I give him a lot of credit for deciding to become a wrestler at such a late age and despite the odds making it to the top.  I guess the serious jokes come from the fact of how hard he worked to learn his craft (detailed in Foley's book), but that impressed me mightily and gave me a respect for him.

I have so many memories it's hard to think of one.  I remember him coming in, becoming a wrestler, jobbing heavily for a few years (including his alliance with Nash as Vinnie Vegas) getting a sorta push when he came back with KIM as the diamond doll and challenging people to arm-wrestling contests, his lame, but fun feud with Dave Sullivan,  losing everything to Johhny B BAdd and Kim, the vignettes that showed him homeless on the streets (a fav one of mine was one where he was scalping tickets outisde the arena and ripped off some guy by selling him tickets for the previous night's show and then running away), his comeback and battle bowl victory, his match with eddy guerrero at the clash in august '96 where eddy beat him to win the ring, but afterwards Page put him out of action with multiple, vicious diamond cutters,  of course the nWo angle was great and made me a fan of his, his feud with savage and hogan and rodman, beating up the dinner and a movie guy from tbs on a clash in 97 ( I hate that guy),  his turn as US champ, classics with Benoit and Raven,  teaming with malone vs rodman and hogan (god that was bad), teaming with Jay Leno (horrible, but unforgetable nonetheless), his wargames win, his GREAT match with Goldberg, his feud with steiner, his return and heel turn, world title run including a mometary loss to sting in  a great match on nitro (he later won the belt back in the main event of that same nitro) the formation of the triad (a great angle in my opinion that spurred that great beach bash match against benoit and saturn (in which I was marking like a little kid), well the rest of 99 was pretty hit or miss including bad angles with ric and david flair, 2000 run with jarrett (minus david arquette involvement), Kanyon's hilarious Positively Kanyon Character (they never got a chance to feud) , his return to tag titles with Nash, feud with NBT, his final match with steiner, his lame wwf run (although I enjoyed his motivational speaker gimmick).

Great memories.  It is too bad my last memory of him is jobbing to Bob Holly's dropkick of doom on SmackDown.

He was larger then life On TV and off.  Foley called him a walking cartoon character. (the cookies story in particular still cracks me up)

He is a great man (consider all his work with reading programs for kids) and a hell of a performer.

He will be sorely missed.  Hopefully they will keep him on-air as a commentator, he would be great on SD, or as a manager for Kanyon.

Anyways, Thanks Page Falkenburg for all the memories.

The memory that sticks out the most is when the announcers were putting DDP over by saying he'd been working on "new variations of the Diamond Cutter" in WCW. Schiavone was shilling at his best....I also remember marking out any time DDP countered a move with the Diamond Cutter...i.e. when he countered the Top Rop Chokeslam into the Diamond Cutter, or the Jackhammer into the Diamond Cutter...he really was an amazing worker, he'll be missed.

I'm gonna miss DDP, he was the main guy that turned me into a rabid WCW fan in the late 90's. Not the nwo, not the cruisers, the fact that this guy who doesnt look any different then your normal guy was kicking ass in a wrestling promotion. Much like Mick Foley, they had a connection to the fans and it showed in how rabid and loyal there fans were.

My Favorite DDP Moments are his matches with Savage. Man they lit the world on fire with there pillar to post brawls, they were some of favorite matches at the time period besides the Benoit v Booker series.

DDP, farewell. You were the only reason to watch a dying promotion and they only reason to maybe stop watching another if you dont get the proper treatment in retirement.

my biggest memories of ddp are...

1) him circling the ring like an idiot alongside Karl Malone as they pointed to the fans. I thought that was the single most retarded thing any team has ever done.

2) giving savage the diamond cutter on the concrete. great angle!

Not to be mean or anything, but I'll never forget the Stalker Angle. Or his "so close to winning an Oscar performance" in Ready to Rumble"  Hmm.  DDP was the LORD OF THE RING! Oh and uh...Kimberly..uhhuh..

Even though I call myself a DDP fan, I really haven't seen much of his work aside from his WWF (because that's what they called it back then!) career and random WCW matches.  My favorite moments of the few I have seen were his short program with Christian in WWF and the four-corners WCW title match at Spring Stampede '99.

I marked out for his entire match with Goldberg at Halloween Havoc and I didn't even really like either of them... it was just edge of your seat shit, thinking maybe Goldberg would lose his first match.

Also, you can't forget... DDP ended the Renegade's TV title reign, therefore placing him in the "godlike" category of wrestlers IMO.

His matches against Raven and Benoit for the U.S. Title made me a full-fledged DDP Mark.

When DDP did the Diamond Cutter from the top turnbuckle through a table on Raven, I went completely insane.

A Tie

1.) His wonderful week on the Hollywood Squares. Best thing on the Squares since the death of Paul Lynde

2.) Driving Rhythm and Blues to the ring in the pink cadillac at Wrestlemania VI

I was never a DDP fan, but my favorite moment was when he made his WWF debut. It was surreal seeing him in a WWF ring simply because he was a WCW guy.

My favorite DDP moment is the feud he had with the Mcho Man the matches were good and it led to the cool La Parka angle.

Also the Diamond cutter is one the coolest finishers ever. It was cool as hell when he found news ways to pull it off.

lol, classic that..

DDP..hmm, well since i was Lord of all nWo Marks back in Page's prime, i naturally hated DDP , along with Sting and Giant and Luger and Flair and ...well you get the idea. No denying the guys talent, i mean how many guys do you know could pull off what he did at his age? Not many i tell ya. My favourite match of his was either Superbrawl 8 with Benoit or Uncensored 98 with Benoit & Raven, one kick ass match, even if i did want Raven to win, it still ruled.

This has been the *BANG!* Taker Mark

I never got around to reading his book, but I thought the whole angle with Chris Kanyon dressing up as DDP and making fun of his book was pretty cool too, although the matches weren't that great.

I will always love him giving Sting his last great match.  NITRO...for the title...sting winning in the last great heavy weight match on Nitro...

Anybody ever read the Jay Leno Pro Wrestler write-up at Wrestlecrap?

It describes DDP trashing that Leno-clone talk show that Bischoff had, and loving it...at least until it lead to a Hogan/Bischoff vs.  DDP and Leno match.

Damn, I wish he'd post the full site archives...

here's the first page memory i thought of:

a friend and I were discussing the "stalker" thing, and he put out a theory that it was DDP. I said and I quote: "If the stalker is Page, I will fucking throw the tv out the fucking window."

well, luckily, we watched at his house, and I did not dare to throw my friend's tv through his window. But rest assured, i wanted to, and laughed in perverted joy as the angle tanked and Page was buried forever.

He obviously busted his ass, and I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I hold him personally responsible for Bischoff, Malone, Leno, and Arquette. And don't even get me started on his thrilling "Scum" Hogan promos.
