Guest Posted June 16, 2002 Report Posted June 16, 2002 - Rey Misterio JR. will be at the Smackdown Tapings in Sacramento on Tuesday. It is not confirmed yet whether or not that will be his TV debut but it is known that they will bring him in as a masked wrestler. credit:lordsofpain.net Could this mean the return of oldschool Rey? I hope so, Masked Rey killed Lil Konan Rey Misterio Jr. Too bad he can't fly around like he used too...
Guest Posted June 16, 2002 Report Posted June 16, 2002 It doesnt't really matter what Rey returns. Hopefully it will be the original Masked Rey Misterio Jr. and more importantly, I HOPE he is on the SmackDown! card when they come to my town on July 14th!
Guest art_vandelay Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 The Law says he'll come down to the ring with a new mask each time and give it to a fan in the crowd, like Bret Hart's gimmick.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Who's The Law? Also, isn't it supposed to be a huge disrespect to lucha fans if you lose your mask like Rey did and come back with one... even if it is just to give away to the fans? Anyway, I hope they bring him in soon, even if that means I'll have missed his debut match, unless they use him as ratings-boost main-eventer on VELOCITY~! (yea, right...)

A radio show out of Toronto. I don't think he'd care about disrespecting lucha fans. The fact that he lost the mask was pretty disrespectful anyway. If Vince wants it, it'll happen. I actually think it's a pretty neat idea.
Guest converge241 Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Its always been a great idea. he could be over huge if 1) wwe gives him the huge push 2) he wears thoe multiple outfits/masks Im glad Malenko pushed for it
Guest wolverine Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Here's hoping that one day Rey and Eddy tear it up on PPV again.
Guest TheyCallMeMark Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Also, isn't it supposed to be a huge disrespect to lucha fans if you lose your mask like Rey did and come back with one... even if it is just to give away to the fans? Yeah he'll lose a LOT of credibility back in Mexico. It's a really, really big deal there if you lose your mask. They probably wouldn't let him wrestle there anymer.

Yeah he'll lose a LOT of credibility back in Mexico. It's a really, really big deal there if you lose your mask. They probably wouldn't let him wrestle there anymer. What he said. It's a big deal already if you lose your mask, but if you actually come back with one, it's pretty disrespectful towards the lucha tradition. I never would have thought he was coming back with the mask, and I was pretty skeptical at the thought... But I think that half-mask he was wearing towards the end of wCw would work best for this idea, and it looked awesome as well.
Guest notJames Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Maybe they can use it as a springboard for feuds with other Mexican wrestlers they might bring in. They can go on about loss of dignity, spitting on tradition, etc. People are always going on about how the cruisers don't get any credible angles to work (especially in light of all these lame love triangles popping i.e. Tajiri/Torrie/Maven and Helms/Nidia/Noble). At least this would seem less like typical WW_ hokey crap...
Guest Nevermortal Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 I forget, who did Rey originally lose it to? I'm thinking it was Nash, but I might be mistaken.
Guest LooseCannon Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 I'm thinking it was Nash too, in a hair vs. mask match, but I have a bad memory, so I could be wrong.
Guest Singular Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 I thought it was Chris Jericho in a mask vs. hair match.
Guest converge241 Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 i think it was Nash .. rey's mask vs Nash's (then Liz's ) hair.
Guest Singular Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 I checked a couple fan sites, and it looks like he did loose it to Nash in a tag match with Konnan.
Guest Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 On Galavision's lucha show a few months back, I saw a masked Psicosis. Unless it was an old repeat, Psicosis donned the mask again.
Guest cynicalprofit Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 All I know is Rey is back on tv, so Im a happy camper. Still they shouldnt make him disrepect his heritage with the new mask every week thing. He does have a long family tradition in wrestling.
Guest converge241 Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 yeah thats exactly the type of thing i was talking about before, when i was assuming that talk was sarcastic (about not being able to "go home again" per se). there are tons of wrestlers who repeatedly lose mask matches and always come back again. Mostly lesser know mainstays, in addition to guys like Psicosis.
Guest Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 On Galavision's lucha show a few months back, I saw a masked Psicosis. Unless it was an old repeat, Psicosis donned the mask again. That's not the "real" Psicosis. There are at least two more Psicosis's I know of, those being the Mini/Midget Psicosis, and one other guy parading around in the suit and going by the name, which is the one you most likely saw. The Psicosis who lost his mask in WCW, is still maskless, and when competing in Mexico, among the occasional American indy, is known as Nicho El Millionaro. The only times, that I know of, that he's been Psicosis lately, has been for WWA... And even then he was still maskless, I believe.

And I shall take your word for it as I know extremely little about lucha.
Guest razazteca Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Nash took Rey Misterio Jr mask Chris Jericho took Juvi mask Rey Misterio Sr took Psicosis mask at a show in Mexico The Psicosis on AAA as the leader of Los Vipers is not the real one, Nicho is the real deal as stated earlier. I just hope that Rey Misterio Jr will be the one that will kick start the Lightweight division as he has done in ECW and WCW and hopefully many other Luchadore stars will working in WWEEEEEE. But I know I am asking too much for Santo, Negro Casas, Dr Wagner, Silver King/Black Tiger to show up on RAW.
Guest Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 I think big the question isn't if he returns with the mask or not, it's whether or not he's going to be forced to wrestle the wwe style or the Rey Mysterio Jr. style we all know and love?

Guest Nevermortal Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 If Silver King show's up, I wonder if Chris Jericho will finally upgrade him to "Golden King".
Guest Human Fly Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 El Dandy and La Parka are the true kings of Lucha Libre. At a house show this weekend Misterio was wearing a mask, don't know which one it was, but he was wearing a mask. This was combined with his thug outfit, so take that how you will.
Guest raptor Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 From RajahWWF 5. Rey Misterio Jr. def. Chavo Guerrero Jr. -Rey came out in a lucha mask. Now I know exactly why WWE signed him. I knew he was good, but I didn't know he was that good. He went the extra mile in his first WWE match. Lots of high flying and lucha style moves. End comes with a top rope bulldog by Rey. So it seems as if he will be masked, and may indeed work the aformentioned "Rey Style"
