Guest Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 3 Weeks ago on RAW, Coach was searching for Austin. He found Raven in the parking lot and had this to say.. "It wasn't Debra's family that had the emergency - it was Stone Cold Steve Austin's - in fact, it was Austin himself. Austin can conceal his pain no longer, because from my vantage point, no matter how cleverly he may sneak upon a mirror, his reflection is always right there to stare back at him. And do you know what he sees? He sees a troubled, tortured, tormented soul. I wish I could help him, Coach. But this is his destiny...and I feel his pain. Quote the Raven...nevermore." He's a genius~!
Guest franchise632 Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Clairvoyence or Coincedence you decide..... Xx que xfiles music xX
Guest art_vandelay Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Can someone refresh my memory as to what Austin was doing during that show?
Guest caboose Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Damn. Either Raven is a psychological profiler, or dare I say it was a work... ...Hell no, it wasn't a work! But that Raven thing is weird.
Guest Patorick Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 On a similar note what about this: "As far as tonight is concerned, I think it's time that the Two Man Power Trip became two time losers when Chris Benoit & Y2J beat you for your tag team championship titles! Because, after tonight, junior, neither you nor Triple H will EVER" (Crowd: "EVER!") "ever be the same again" - Chris Jericho, the night Triple H tore his quad.
Guest Patorick Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 I don't get what's so cryptic about that. Will HHH ever be the same again?
Guest Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Nah, that's looking too far into it dude. Remember, that was Y2J's catchphrase at the time, and as a face, he's required to be a catchphrase machine to play to the crowd. Also, the thing with Raven wasn't just a simple catchphrase or anything, that was an entire prophecy that turned out to be fulfilled..
Guest caboose Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 I think the point of the Raven promo was that the WWF was building to a paranoid Austin character for Vengeance. Check the poster they put out about a week back. Anyway Raven was just adding to the backstory. But in a weird twist of fate Austin really has gone over the edge.
Guest buffybeast Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Raven may have known what was going on. think about it. these people spend lots of time together. They see the best and worst of one another. If Debra was being beaten, and that is a big if, then the other Divas would have seen the bruises on her body in the dressing room, and they would talk to others about it. Or Debra may have confided in someone that Austin was hitting her and that person told someone else, and they told someone, and so on.

In that case, Raven risked being fired, by practically describing Austin as a lunatic on a live show.
Guest Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 I know others have already said this, but seriously, that Raven thing is just fucking freaky.

In that case, Raven risked being fired, by practically describing Austin as a lunatic on a live show. Well, if Raven did know anything about Austin's private life, that he was "crazy" in real life, then this could be described as art imitating life imitating art. Austin was supposed to be crazed in the ring, correct? I dunno, it just seems like a coincidence to me. But you never know.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Hmm...I think many people might want to enterperet this as being a work because of how true Raven't words actually were, but I still don't see how they could work something like this. The strangest part about this, though, is that neither JR or King had much to say at all about Raven's promo, so if it was supposed to be building to a paranoid Austin, they didn't pick up on it. Then again, stuff like that flies right over their heads all the time, but it does make you wonder. I mean, the poster may have looked like Paranoid Austin would be the focus, but how often to poster's actually portray what the show is going to be about? It's all very strange, but I still can't believe it's more than a coincidence. Still, very freaky.
Guest Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Can someone refresh my memory as to what Austin was doing during that show? It was when Austin was benched. A week after Eddy smashed a beer over his head. It was the same night that Benoit returned and turned on him at the end of the evening.
Guest converge241 Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 lol @ tie-in to the Raven quote why dont you point out Austin's history of threats against women (melanie pillman and the gun angle)

Guest Austin3164life Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 When did Raven ever say this on camera? Not trying to say it's false, but I don't remember that happening because I saw that Raw. Is it on WWE.com video by any chane?
Guest Downhome Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 When did Raven ever say this on camera? Not trying to say it's false, but I don't remember that happening because I saw that Raw. Is it on WWE.com video by any chane? He said it on RAW two weeks ago today, one week before all of Austin's crap started going down. Coach went out looking for Austin outside, and he found Raven sitting against a fence instead. When asked by Coach what is up with Austin and if he knew what the "emergency" was, Raven replied with that.
Guest Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 When did Raven ever say this on camera? He said it outside the arena. That's all I remember.
Guest cynicalprofit Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Man, maybe this is a work to create a new and BETTER flock. Austin, Raven, who else could they throw in. Ok its probably not, but i can atleast hope SCSA will still be around and that Raven is getting a mega push. Still Raven always shows just how cool he can be by foreshadowing the future. Anyone know how close Raven and Austin are backstage? I never knew of any heat between them, but I never knew of them traveling together. But they both had the Foley connection so how knows.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Well, we already knew that Raven was a genius, but this clairvoyance thing is pretty damn cool
Guest RetroRob215 Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 Once Raven "quit" the WWE, he was supposed to rehash his old gimmick. His old gimmick in ECW & WCW would be his cryptic messages, ending with "Quote the Raven, nevermore". If anything I think the point of the promo was to rebuild Raven's old persona. I'm a little surprised that it took this long for another new station to pick up on the Austin thing. That makes me doubt thie whole thing a little bit because usually the media would have been all over this at least by last night.
Guest Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 I will now proceed to getting a myself built a statue of Raven and praise him for the entirety of my life. Quote the Raven, Nevermore...
Guest Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 I think you can just chalk this one up to coincidence. The only way I'll consider it freaky is if the wwe refers to this on tv and then builds up an angle where Raven has ESP, or he's got mind control over Austin, or some shit like that.
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 that is a very interesting quote from raven but I doubt he knew anything about what was going on. raven was just going off on one of his little speeches and this one just turned out to have some true qualities to it. i love the gimmick and I hope he keeps it as long as he isn't jobbing weekly on heat.
Guest Posted June 17, 2002 Report Posted June 17, 2002 I think the Raven promo was either to build to a work that would do something similar along the lines of what has, unfortunately, really happend (Steve Austin going off the deep end) and now we'll never know what that was going to be. This may have been an angle that got cut off when Austin got "unbenched" by beating Flair (perhaps that was a bone thrown to Austin after his bitching out "Creative" on Byte This? Nixing a Raven/Austin angle around Austin being benched?) Or, more likely, it was just using Raven as part of the Austin hype machine. "Okay, Raven, Austin's the focus of the show, so we want you to give us more Austin speculation. Do your creepy darkside promo thingy, but focus it on "what's going on with Austin? Why isn't he here?" with no intent of developing anything further between the two. Whether or not Raven used some "real life" info on Steve Williams to construct his promon on Steve Austin is of course something we'll never know, and only be able to work ourselves into an ecstatic tizzy speculating on. It is interesting that an in-character "prophetic statement" actually turned out to be somewhat prophetic in the real world. Which would add a cool new dimension to the Raven character if they elected to start pushing him as this visionary guru (which they won't do, because Vince NEVER gives me what I want to see, ever). It's probably just an inprobable coincidence. But either way, Raven is f'n cool. That we DO know for sure, if nothing else.
