WWE General Discussion for August 2007

Recommended Posts

Figured I might as well get the ball rolling on the August thread.

What are the chances that:

1. Unforgiven's (or No Mercy, if it's a Cena rematch at Unforgiven) Raw main event will be Umaga vs Randy Orton for the WWE title.

2. People will actually want to see this?

I'll believe Cena's not in a title match when I see it.

2. People will actually want to see this?

With the millions of people that watch wrestling, odds are at least one person will want to see it.

Personally never been able to buy Umaga as a Main Event title contender.

Agreed. I'd much rather see Orton there than Umaga. Right now, there are only two people that I would like Cena to job to. Jericho (probably not going to happen, ever.) and Triple H.

Yeah, yeah. Start with the HHHate. I just can't stand Cena anymore. I know that Jeff Hardy is gone and all that now, but did it not seem like he was getting louder pops than the face of the promotion?

Jeff's not gone just yet. As far as I'm aware.

I've never been able to buy into Umaga period. I gave the gimmick 6 months tops. I'm suprised that not only has he survived this long but he's had 2 Intercontinetnal Champtionships and 2 WWE title shots.

I don't mind the gimmick as such, I think its something a little different compared to the rest of the roster (though typical WWE in other ways), but its too gimmicky for him to be THE Champ. Umaga has certinaly grown on me over time, but not enough to buy into him being another more then a squash match.

I reckon Orton/HHH is the best bet for a title when from Cena, but I think they're holding back from Orton due to his past behavior and he's pretty young to be a 2 time champion already, maybe?

Thats the thing thats holding him back, his stupid gimmick. I've never understood why in this day and age Mcmahon would chose to go along with something right out of the 80s. If he would drop that stupid savage gimmick and just play your regular big crazy son of a bitch, then that would be something to get over and make some money off of. I've thought for a while now the wwe should have someone who just goes nuts from bell to bell (not with a savage gimmick though) and umuga would be a good choice for that guy. Sort of like kevin sullivan back in the day, except better and more aggressive.

Its really undetermined right now the direction of Raw. Umaga as Face needs me time to take it in. Cena and Randy for Unforgiven will probably happen and Cena will say "Hey I won the title at Unforgiven last year so..."

So...basically turn Umaga back into Jamal then?

Not really...more like in the image of steve austin. Since he has such a different look and move set, it would be rather cool imo.

WWE Monday Night Raw scored a 2.5 rating Monday night, down from the previous week's 3.4 rating. They scored a 1.83 in males 18-49, a 1.99 in males 18-34, and had a total of 3.4 million viewers. This is the lowest rating the show has done since moving back to the USA network. The above-mentioned demographic numbers were down a half a point from the average.

Holy shit, a 2.5? man they really need to shake things up

from pwi

Jerry "The King" Lawler is NOT GUILTY stemming from Sam's Town Casino incident during a Memphis Wrestling Show on June 15th, 2007, in which he was accused of "shooting" on Corrente and Corrente filed assault charges. Apparently Sal Corrente wanted an continuance of the case, but the court wouldn't allow it. Corrente is able to appeal the decision if he wants. Media was all over the place and Sal had "no comment" for them.

That's terrible. Did they ever even drop into the 2s throughout that horrible year of 2003? Wonder what they'll try and blame?

All I can say is that Jeff Hardy = Ratings.

2.5?! A fucking 2.5?!!

That is so awful. That's down to 1995 level of awful. That has to be the worst rating they've had in the last 10 years. Someone better be pressing the panic button in Stamford.

Quick look, the last time RAW was in the 2s was Christmas night in 2006.

July 4, 2005 it was a 2.6

December 20, 2004 it was a 2.7

December 31, 2001 it was a 2.4

December 15, 1997 it was a 2.7

That's it, from late 1997 forward it was consistently in the 3s and above with the exception of the dates listed. When you consider this past Monday wasn't a holiday, this isn't a nice sign for WWE.

But but but...its not stephanie's and mcmahons fault!!! no sir...

If this isn't a motive for finally...fucking finally, taking the belt off of cena I don't know what is though. Because if it was anyone else as champ, it would be done in a heartbeat.

Eh, I'm no Cena fan but I don't think you can blame this on him. It's a backlash from the Benoit tragedy. The company needs to make major changes to the presentation of their product or the audience will continue to erode.

Wow, a 2.5. Haven't seen a RAW rating like that in a while. Reminds me of looking at the old PWI magazines and seeing how RAW and Nitro would go head-to-head. I've been waiting to see the ratings go that low just to see if there will be ANY type of creative shake up within the company but who am I kidding.

Any chance the shareholders might be bitching about that soon?

damn what is going on, Smackdown is their highest rated show right now (although not by much) i dont think the Benoit tragedy situation can really attribute to it right now because Smackdown and ECW havent lost their audience

The worst part as a poster elaborated on in the RAW thread is that they have nothing that will spike the ratings (unless you think HHH's return is going to do that). I wish I had a camera in WWE headquarters to see what kind of stuff went on when they got that rating number.

I'll admit that they have lost me as a fan of RAW for now just due to bad storylines and bad booking. The last RAW I watched was many months ago when Big Dick Johnson came out and molested Eric Bischoff.

HHH will get me watching Raw again, but I'm not sure for how long. I've got to admit that the whole Benoit thing has dinted my interesting in watching wrestling. I have no idea why, its not like I've taken a moral stand point on the situation, but ever since the day I've found out I've just subconsciously not bothered to make an effort to record or watch it. If its on its on, but I haven't made it an occasion. Its not just WWE though, its TNA as well. Just tired of seeing the same stuff being repeated, there's no escape from it other then CHIKARA and ROH.

I don't think its all a backlash of the benoit stuff. I think maybe 2 weeks after that story broke, those who quit watching because of it had already left. Benoit for example doesn't explain the big drop in ratings from just last week..as the benoit stuff has finally gotten out of the news for the most part. Since then its more of an issue of the product and/or who they are pushing and how. With regard to Cena, I'm not laying all the blame on him at all...its obviously a much bigger problem. However, rating declines have been used in the past for reasons to take the title off of someone and its clear to me that cena is probably at least PART of the problem. The world title picture has been so damn stale for too long.

The wwe needs a major shake up and I look forward to hearing the news this week on the backstage reaction to this incredibly low rating. Hopefully this low rating will spur a major change in direction and booking.

Well Diesel had a good long run with the title while drawing some of the worst buytates and house show attendances in company history. JBL wasn't exactly setting business on fire during his reign that people kept calling for an end to every month (until the Big Show feud) either.

It'll be interesting to see what USA Network's reaction to this rating is. We have already heard the reports that they are throwing ideas at Vince and demanding he switch some creative things up but I have to wonder if they are really going to force the issue. It might not happen immediately but if RAW does another bad rating you have to think that the USA execs are gonna be breathing down Vince's neck to do something and that's when the real fireworks might start going off.

Hell, maybe people are also tired of Ross & Lawler on commentary with JR damning everything to hell and just making a mockery of himself. However, Michael Cole is NOT the answer.

I do find it funny that this horrible rating happens after RAW stole Smackdown!'s top talent in the draft AND moved Lashley over from ECW.

Well, look at the roster

Bobby Lashley- Now Out With An Injury

Chris Benoit- Out of Action

Jeff Hardy- Injury... possibly Suspended

HBK- Injury

H Game- Returning Soon

Everyone has been saying build your mid-card stars, they have failed to do so. All they have on Raw is Orton, Cena, and Kennedy

The Orton match completely sucked, so all they had was Cena vs. Carlito and Kennedy vs. Lashley

Shitty roster + Benoit going psycho = Shitty Ratings

Is that number perhaps a misprint? I mean really, ratings just don't do that in jarring fashion without something major happening to justify it. There was no other really notable programming that might have deducted Raw viewers that I know of.

Is it possible that this was the SD broadcast number from Friday that was accidentally reported as Raw? Cause there's no way shows usually go from 3.4 to 2.5 in a single week.

If it is true there is one man to blame: Orton. Once he was announced as #1 contender apparently 0.9 viewers said "FUCK THAT!" and tuned out.
