Guest BoboBrazil Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 Last night's edition of Smackdown scored one of its lowest ratings ever, doing a 3.1 broadcast rating (with a six share) for the night, according to Nielsen Media Research. That is down from last week's 3.6. 1wrestling.com
Guest Shaved Bear Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 they need to go live, thats why they are in this mess
Guest AM The Kid Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 I don't understand why they don't go live...
Guest bob_barron Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 Going live wouldnt really do anything except cost more money. There would be a little to no ratings increase.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 I certainly dont want them to go live, not until I go back to college in September. I don't get UPN, however I can get the satellite feed early so I can watch it. But thats just me..
Guest MrRant Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 Then need to be ENTERTAINING. Smackdown is just not as entertaining to me as RAW (even though RAW has a good week followed by a bad week) because Smackdown is boring and poor almost week in and week out.
Guest BoboBrazil Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 I agree with MrRant. I can't even sit through Smackdown anymore. It is the same boring garbage every week. I have no problems sitting through Raw and I have usually enjoyed it every week since the split has happened.
Guest The Superstar Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 HHH: "It's because I wasn't in the main event! And look who was! Angle! Have him feud with....Kidman. That'd be good. Oh, Taker was in that match too. Bookers, get those erasers out and put me over for the title this Sunday! Taker just doesn't have it!"
Guest Smeghead Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 It's funny. After the draft, virtually every smark out there agreed that Smackdown had the better roster. Yet Raw has consistently been the better show each week.
Guest Nezbyte Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 It's funny. After the draft, virtually every smark out there agreed that Smackdown had the better roster. Yet Raw has consistently been the better show each week. Oh, they still DO have the better roster. It's a result of underutilization.
Guest Prince Paul Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 The first few weeks of the split, I'd say Smackdown was the more entertaining of the two. Then RAW just took over and Smackdown hasn't really been better ever since. Personally, one of the reasons I like RAW better is because it's a live show, with a live feel. I know that doesn't make much difference in ratings, just personal thought.
Guest LesnarLunatic Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 HHH and Undertaker = Ratings!!!! can't we see that? Stupid marks will like what Smackdown gives them. Even if the top faces on Smackdown are HHH, Val Venis and Maven
Guest goodhelmet Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 Nezbyte hit it right on ther head! The REAL talent is not utilized. Hell, I have yet to see one full episode of SD! since the split. I read the spoilers, see Hogan and Trips taking up 40 minutes of airtime, Jericho and Angle made to look like jackasses and the cruisers working 3 minute matches in order to get their valets over. Thanks but no thanks. Besides Edge-Angle Rage in the Cage I can't think of one other SD match in that time worth remembering. Going live is not the solution. When it was pulling 5's and even mid 4's, no one was implying it should be live. The talent probelm needs to be fixed.
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 I wouldn't say Raw has been the better show. It has been getting better ratings as of late I think but the Smackdown crew is a much more talented group of guys than Raw is.
Guest RetroRob215 Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 SmackDown! doesn't have ONE worthwhile feud. I don't even remember what happened yesterday. Until SmackDown can get one hot feud in the main event and consistently put on decent matches the ratings will not go up.
Guest suckfreecomix Posted June 21, 2002 Report Posted June 21, 2002 At the time of the split I would have agreed that Smackdown had the better roster... But not anymore. Rock was away...HHH sucks...Hogan is terrible. They have Jericho and Angle and Edge. Storm and Christian have barely been on and the cruisers get 3 minutes a show. Thats Smackdown. RAW has RVD, Brock, Eddy, Booker T, Flair now Benoit and until recently Austin. And they actually use them.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted June 22, 2002 Report Posted June 22, 2002 I can't wait for KOR to be over so we can start some new story lines and directions. I swear I feel like i've just seen 5 straight weeks of Hogan/HHH flexing together at the end of every show while UT and Angle run away.
Guest art_vandelay Posted June 22, 2002 Report Posted June 22, 2002 Don't flame me if you think I'm being dumb, but I think a part of the reason why SD receives low ratings is because of its colour scheme. As you know, blue is a cool colour, whereas red is warm. It's easier for me to get excited for something "hot" and "energetic" than something "cool" and "calming," which is the feeling I get when I think about SmackDown!. If it were up to me, I'd move the Heat name and colours to Thursday, and SmackDown! to Sundays on MTV. Sunday Night SmackDown!, rolls right off the tongue.

Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted June 22, 2002 Report Posted June 22, 2002 That's gold, Jerry, gold! Why do they call it Ovaltine when its round. They should call it Roundtine.
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 22, 2002 Report Posted June 22, 2002 the wwe really needs to drop smackdown IMO. keep heat and velocity as secondary shows, and make raw the big show. that way the wwe can get away from the over exposure they have been dealing with ever since debuting the smackdown a couple of years back.

I think they need to have 2 shows due to the talent they have. However, I agree they are overexposed. They need to stop recapping so much on Heat and Velocity and that other show they have. Make it must see tv where if you missed it, you're screwed. SDown shouldn't talk about Raw and vice versa. Make people sorry they missed shows, not glad they missed them.
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 22, 2002 Report Posted June 22, 2002 of course in a perfect brand extension we would have seen the two shows run as two separate products. now it's like the draft didn't even really take place. with all of the recaps that the wwe does on raw, smackdown, heat, and velocity that they probably could afford to drop smackdown and no talent will really miss getting on the air. i only want to see wrestlers like once a week so guys going between both shows never really worked for me

Guest thebear Posted June 22, 2002 Report Posted June 22, 2002 At what point will UPN call mcmahon and get his fucking act together... If shit doesn't change soon, it will at the very least, lose it's cushy timeslot... Alternatives could include: Move to wedensday (The only other realistic night), A move to a shittier timeslot, or being yanked altogether... Now's a good time to have the WWF Hire Oliver Stone to turn the stone cold thing into an angle... *L*
Guest red_file Posted June 22, 2002 Report Posted June 22, 2002 At what point will UPN call mcmahon and get his fucking act together... When Smackdown is no longer one of the highest rated shows on the network. A 3.1 might be a low rating for Smackdown, but it's a pretty good rating for something on the UPN. I'm not saying that they're in a good position, just that things need to get a whole lot worse before the network intervenes.
Guest Zero_Cool Posted June 22, 2002 Report Posted June 22, 2002 *puts on fortune teller hat* next week's Smackdown...pulls in a rating...of 2.6. *takes off hat* Amazing how much SD is looking like Thunder these days. By the way, Ovalteen is Ovalkeen. I have no idea why I had to say that.
Guest papacita Posted June 22, 2002 Report Posted June 22, 2002 It amazes me how the WWE fucked up something as simple as a roster split. Anyway, before Judgment Day, I'd say that Smackdown was the better show. While storylines weren't as consistent as Raw's, it was more exciting and had better action, IMO. Also the crowd noise on Smackdown (canned or not) is always enough to keep my attention, unlike most Raw. Smackdown really got hurt when HHH went over Jericho in HIAC, because prior to that match, Jericho was getting major heel heat and was more or less the top heel on the roster. When he lost, he lost a lot of his heat, and pretty much forced Vince McMahon and Undertaker to step into Jericho's role, which has really hurt the show. That, along with HHH as top face and there you go. If they want Smackdown to get better, they should GET MCMAHON OFF TV, SPLIT THE UNDISPUTED TITLE, and book the show around someone more interesting than HHH (and never let him cut a promo like the one he cut on Thursday again).
