Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 I was half asleep when Velocity started, and the first match was Rob Conway vs. Randy Orton. During the match Rob Conway injured his leg and went down. They stopped the match and I figured he was joking. But then they brought people from the back to help him out and Orton even looked concerned and was checking on him. Keep in mind this is about 2 minutes later so I'm thinking he must really be hurt. I' m wondering why they didn't edit this match out. Maybe to show Orton was a nice guy or something. So Orton holds the ropes open so they can get Conway out of the ring, when Conway pops up and starts beating Orton's ass. It was awesome. I had never heard of this guy so I don't know if he's HWA or OWV but it was funny as hell. Of course Orton came back to win the match but Conway gained some heat and a new fan.
Guest buffybeast Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 I saw this match. I figured it was a work since the company would have edited this match if he was really hurt. But I had no idea Conway was going to kick the crap out of Orton like that. The match itself was pretty good. I was happy to see WWF give a jobber an identity and establish him as a heel in that match.
Guest Incandenza Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 I didn't see the show, but that sounded pretty cool. After going to all that trouble for someone who ostensibly is a jobber, do you suppose they future plans for Mr. Conway?
Guest Ripper Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 It made me laugh out loud...it was hiliarious to me. The guy definately got the "who is that" reaction coming out and had heel heat after that little thing. The crowd even clapped in the "Show support for the hurt guy" thing.

He'll never break the glass ceiling and can only hope to someday be a jobber to the stars ala Crash Holly.
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 it was an interesting way to start his wwe career, but he shouldn't have done the job in that match if he was going to be pulling tricks like he did. randy orton certainly could have lived with a loss and it could have shown that conway was a sneaky little bastard doing anything for a win.
Guest The Superstar Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 Man, I wish I saw the BEGINNING of Velocity instead of the end. Instead, the only match I saw was D'Von vs. Faarooq Sounds pretty cool though
Guest raptor Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Probably not. He'll never break the glass ceiling and can only hope to someday be a jobber to the stars ala Crash Holly. Why so pessimistic? He looked good, and they've already given him indentity. IMO, he looked really good, and had me marking out for the injury spot. Good stuff, that. While I was watching Velocity I realized something. Let's look at recent WWE debuts and returns. Raw Brand: Eddie Guerrero, Christopher Nowinski, Brock Lesnar Smackdown! Brand: Nidia, Jamie Noble, Rob Conway, Randy Orton, Deacon Batista, and coming soon: Rey Misterio and Shannon Moore. Almost every new debut is going to Smackdown! WTF? Raw is in dire need of a deeper roster, and they just keep making the Smackdown! roster bigger. I understand bringing the new crusiers into Smackdown (as the division is SD! exclusive) but why Conway, Batista and Orton? They aren't part of the division, and could get more exposure on Raw.
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Man, I wish I saw the BEGINNING of Velocity instead of the end. Instead, the only match I saw was D'Von vs. Faarooq you poor guy. that faarooq/d-von match was a classic in all the wrong ways.
Guest Human Fly Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Raw Brand: Eddie Guerrero, Christopher Nowinski, Brock Lesnar They also got HBK, but I know what you mean. Especially with Kane hurt, and SCSA gone.
Guest The Superstar Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Well, they DID show the Rey Jr. video on Heat, but of course, there's no other cruisers in the RAW brand so he'll probably be on Smackdown.
Guest GenerationNever Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Al Snow mentioned Conway was from OVW. I had heard of him but never really seen him in action. I was impressed. I hope he receives a push if he does stay with the Smackdown brand.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Raw Brand: Eddie Guerrero, Christopher Nowinski, Brock Lesnar They also got HBK, but I know what you mean. Especially with Kane hurt, and SCSA gone. And don't forget Rock and Benoit
Guest HartFan86 Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Why would Rey Jr. go to Smackdown when they advertised that commercial on Raw last night? Just because he worked Smackdown House Shows means shit. If he came to Raw, it would be really intresting...but there goes his crusierweight title chance. Fucking Roster split.
Guest raptor Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Well, it looks to be a little better after the recent TV tapings and House Show (Spoilers) Raw Brand: Eddie Guerrero, Christopher Nowinski, Brock Lesnar, Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit, Jason Sugarman, Steve Bradley, B.J. Payne, Ekmo, Kimo, Johnny The Bull, Sean O' Haire, and Mike Sanders [YES!!!!] Smackdown! Brand: Nidia, Jamie Noble, Rob Conway, Randy Orton, Deacon Batista, Rey Misterio, John "The Prototype" Cena, The Rock, Shelton Benjamin and Shannon Moore.
Guest TheDames7 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 In that case...THANK GOD that Mike Sanders won't be in the Cruiserweight division. He doesn't need to be buried with the rest of them. He would be THE heel of the division though.... Dames
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 1. GenerationNever, is that Yuyu I see as your avatar? (seen one episode of the show, saw the full-length movie Poltergeist Report) 2. O'Haire vs. Lesnar will be something to watch.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 In that case...THANK GOD that Mike Sanders won't be in the Cruiserweight division. He doesn't need to be buried with the rest of them. He would be THE heel of the division though.... Dames I never got the big deal with Sanders. He had an interesting natural charisma, but never seemed to expand on it. In the ring he was just the most average wrestler I've ever seen.
Guest TheDames7 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Anyone who can hold their own with Flair on the mic is great. I agree, he's just average in the ring, but he has a grasp of how to work as a heel (foot on ropes, etc) and he has a kickass finish. Apparantly, he's also learned to work face style in development and even booked some down in HWA. Dames
Guest raptor Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I thought he had potential in the ring, but that may be because he was working with Chavo and Rey Misterio.
Guest SuperTonyJaymz Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Mike Sanders is one of those guys that, while average in ring wise, because of their charisma, they just seem better. Plus, he has a good grasp on the pshychology and heel tatics. Raw is shaping up to be the better brand, in my eyes. Though i want to see Sehlton benjamin in action, hear he is great.
Guest GenerationNever Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Yep. It's Yusuke Urameshi from Yu Yu Hakusho.
Guest Perfect Plex Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Man, I wish I saw the BEGINNING of Velocity instead of the end.
