Guest chirs3 Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 Just wondering. Seems the WWF is getting the Post-PPV burial for the fourth time this year, so let's focus on something positive. What are the best matches to happen this year?
Guest SuperTonyJaymz Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 -The Rock vs. Chris Jericho, Royal Rumble -Ric Flair vs. Vince McMahon, Royal Tumble -Eddie Guerero vs. RVd, ladder match -Kurt Angle vs. Edge, the first one
Guest The Superstar Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 Rock/Jericho, Royal Rumble Angle/Austin, RAW in February Eddie/RVD, Ladder match from RAW and their Judgment Day one Angle/Edge, Backlash ... ... Pretty pathetic.
Guest chirs3 Posted June 24, 2002 Report Posted June 24, 2002 I can only think of a few off the top of my head, I know I'll remember more later. RVD vs Undertaker, non-Dusty finish one. RVD vs Guerrero, Ladder Match Angle vs Edge, Cage Match Edit: I haven't seen any PPV's. I'm poor.
Guest RetroRob215 Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 1. Ladder Match: Eddy Guerrero vs. RVD 2. Undisputed Title: Jericho vs. Rock (Rumble) 3. Royal Rumble match 4. Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock 5. Cage Match: Kurt Angle vs. Edge
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 kurt angle vs. edge - judgement day rob van dam vs. eddie guerrero - raw ladder match ric flair vs. undertaker - wrestlemania ric flair vs. steve austin - raw no punches
Guest massivHEDtrauma Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Am I the only one that thinks the cage match with Kurt and Edge was better than the ladder match with RVD and Eddie?
Guest BigTim2002 Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Trauma, are you saying that just becuz a fan ran in? That's stupid if you are. Yeah, so RVD messed the psychology a little bit, but it was better than the cage match simply becuz that both of them rule and that they were working with what looked like aluminum ladders, and they still had a great match.

No, I'm not saying it just because a fan ran in and yes, that would be pretty goddamned stupid. Almost as stupid as saying that the ladder match was better because they were working with "what looked like aluminum ladders." Jesus Christ. That cage isn't made out of cheese, y'know. I just liked the cage match. It had better psychology, it had crazy bumps, it had a great finish and (most importantly) it had Angle.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 I also like the Cage Match better. Angle/Edge from Backlash is match of the year thus far.
Guest Brian Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 The ladder match had a much deeper running psychology built off prior matches and just generally seemed to be paced better, and despite almost falling apart numerous times, Eddie held it together. Frankly, cage match first time around nearly put me to sleep.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Rasmus is just employing the RVD bias. The cage match was slow...and Hogan interference...ugh. Here's my list: Jericho/Rock Royal Rumble. RVD/Eddy ladder match at Raw. Angle/Edge Backlash honorable mention to Taker/RVD #1 contender...best Taker match in recent memory. And...the bps21 Match of the half year: Eddy Guerrero vs. Rob Van Dam (Judgment Day) The forgotten great. It all made so much sense...the back psychology being used against Eddy as opposed to the opposite the first time. RVD directing his spots towards Eddys back. The first and only match where RVDs spots actually made sense and told a story. and the cleanest win you'll find from a heel. (unless its Angle making Hogan tap)
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 "The ladder match had a much deeper running psychology built off prior matches and just generally seemed to be paced better, and despite almost falling apart numerous times, Eddie held it together. Guest The Vanilla Midget Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 rvd v eddy g --- MOTY so far which says a damn lot about the state of the product rock/jericho at the rumble angle/austin from raw angle/edge, which pretty much everybody has said best smackdown match would be the edge/venis v angle/storm match from a few months back.
Guest undisputedjericho Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 5 - RVD vs. Eddie (J-Day) 4 - Edge vs. Angle (Hair) 3 - Edge vs. Angle (Cage) 2 - RVD vs. Eddie (Ladder) 1 - Rock vs. Jericho (Rumble)
Guest art_vandelay Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 I also liked the cage match better, it was a lot more fluid than the ladder match. The ladder match, while it had many great spots, a lot of them were not executed as well as they could have been. A large part of the match looked sloppy to me, plus there were many awkward moments, even excluding the fan interaction. The cage match went as good as it could have, IMO. Everything was executed nicely, from the Hebner Jr. ref bump to that brilliant crotch shot. Just my personal preference.
Guest Anglesault Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 RVD vs. Jericho, King of the Ring, by far, the best match I have ever seen in my LIFE! I can't see how anything can be compared to that! Flair/Steamboat? PAH! Okay? ::Chris Jericho removes the gun from my temple::
Guest alfdogg Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Nice title, AS. ::puts thinking cap on:: Rock/Jericho, RR Austin/Angle, 1/28 RAW Flair/UT, WM Angle/Edge, Backlash Eddie/RVD, JD Angle/Edge, JD Jericho/Cripple H, JD Angle/Edge, 5/23 SD Eddie/RVD, 5/27 RAW Austin/Flair, 6/3 RAW My top 10, in no particular order.
Guest Anglesault Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 I could really care less about the title right now. BTW, alf, Jericho saw your list and is heading to your house as we speak.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 IMO, its odd that this year has had some pretty good Free TV matches (RVD vs Eddy Guerrero Ladder Match, Edge vs Angle Cage Match, #1 Contender Match Austin vs Angle in Jan. )
Guest alfdogg Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 BTW, alf, Jericho saw your list and is heading to your house as we speak. Hey I have an excuse...I didn't order the PPV. ::takes a swig full of bottled water to scare him off with, just in case::
Guest Incandenza Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Matches I have seen this year that I would rate **** or higher (in no particular order): Jericho-Rock: Royal Rumble Guerrero-RVD: IC ladder match from Raw Angle-Austin: #1 Contender match from Raw Angle-Edge: Backlash Angle-Edge: cage match from Smackdown
Guest Anglesault Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 I fear for all your lives if Jericho ses this thread. That is all.
Guest Austin3164life Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Rock/Jericho, RR Austin/Angle, 1/28 RAW Flair/UT, WM Angle/Edge, Backlash Eddie/RVD, JD Angle/Edge, JD Jericho/Triple H, JD Angle/Edge, 5/23 SD Eddie/RVD, 5/27 RAW Austin/Flair, 6/3 RAW Well, at least there has been 10 solid matches. Rarely any of these have really been great. I think Austin/Flair was good (for live tv, around ***1/2) but something like that should've been saved for pay per view (like Rock/Hogan "dream match")......
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Kurt-Angle.Vs.Edge:Backlash Kurt-Angle.Vs.Edge:Judgement-Day Kurt-Angle.Vs.Edge:Smackdown The-Rock.Vs.Chris-Jericho:Royal-Rumble RVD.Vs.Chris-Jericho:King-Of-The-Ring RVD.Vs.Eddie-Guerrero:Raw Austin.Vs.Angle:Jan-28-Raw The-Rock.Vs.Hulk-Hogan:WM-18
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 No particular Order (except that the first match is the best): -Rock vs. Jericho RR -Vince vs. Flair RR -Royal Rumble RR -Austin vs. Angle RAW -Regal vs. RVD WM -Rock vs. Hogan WM -Eddy vs. RVD RAW -Angel vs. Edge SD -Austin vs. Flair RAW I haven't gotten PPVs since WM so I can't comment on them.
Guest Perfect Plex Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 I fear for all your lives if Jericho ses this thread. That is all. Sweet Jesus, you're right! He may "Walls of Jericho us through a table!"
Guest Brian Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 "Eddy said that RVD held it together...just saying." Actually he said RVD mapped out many of the big spots before hand.
Guest I Fear Hogans Air Guitair Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 1. RVD VS Eddie -Ladder match on RAW 2. RVD VS Eddie -Backlash 3. Jericho VS RVD-KOTR 4. RVD VS Taker-RAW the first one 5. Jericho VS Rock-Rumble Thats my top 5 PS. Does anyone else see that i am a Huge RVD Mark.
