Guest jimmy no nose Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 There are some live Raw notes over at 411 that say that every single sign was checked at the gate which caused it to take a very long time for anyone to get in. Which signs were taken away it doesn't say. Then it said that fans were pulled away by security after starting chants of "GOLDBERG" and "X-Pac Sucks" and told to stop using harsh language. Come on, they don't even censor "sucks" on Smackdown, a show which once censored the word "jackass". If this is true, then that is ridiculous. What's next, dropping the audio on someone's promo when the fans start and inappropriate chant?
Guest buffybeast Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 This is WWF's attempt at controlling what fans at home hear and see. Same reason why RVD's chants were toned down last year. Sad, really.
Guest Incandenza Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 If this is true, then where was security to stop that huge "ASSHOLE!" chant that broke out in the opening segment?
Guest buffybeast Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 If this is true, then where was security to stop that huge "ASSHOLE!" chant that broke out in the opening segment? Because the "asshole" chants help further the Mr. Mcmahon character as a prick, asshole boss. The "Goldberg" chants don't help anyone's character or the company itself.
Guest jimmy no nose Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Well, I guess you can't stop the chant once it has broken out, but it said that they tried to pick out the people who started the chants.
Guest Incandenza Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Because the "asshole" chants help further the Mr. Mcmahon character as a prick, asshole boss. The "Goldberg" chants don't help anyone's character or the company itself. That doesn't explain the alleged stopping of the "X-PAC SUCKS!" chant.
Guest Ash Ketchum Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 I dunno. Maybe just for the EVIL factor
Guest buffybeast Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Because the "asshole" chants help further the Mr. Mcmahon character as a prick, asshole boss. The "Goldberg" chants don't help anyone's character or the company itself. That doesn't explain the alleged stopping of the "X-PAC SUCKS!" chant. Hmm, no it doesn't. I don't know the answer, then. I guess it is a control issue.
Guest FeArHaVoC Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Maybe X-Pac threaten to quit if they didn't stop them?
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Maybe X-Pac threaten to quit if they didn't stop them? Ok then, everybody together now: "X-Pac sucks! X-Pac sucks! X-Pac sucks! X-Pac sucks!"
Guest godthedog Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 this sounds more like something the people at the arena wanted, not the wwF people. people have chanted 'xpac sucks' for years, i'm sure vince is way beyond the point of caring.
Guest crandamaniac Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 If they censored the "X-Pac Sucks" chants, then why did Goldust say x-pac sucked when he was doing the hilarious (in my opinion anyways) crocodile hunter skit.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 because its the WWE, it doesn't have to make sense
Guest chirs3 Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Fook, security is on its way. I suggest you go quietly.
Guest RetroRob215 Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Whoever said some fans might have been offended is probably right. Doesn't Finkel ask to refrain from using harsh language at the start of the show? Maybe some soccer mom with her 5 kids didn't want to hear that kind of shit.
Guest NoCalMike Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 I remember a few years back, when I was at a Raw taping, (the one used in Beyond the Mat for the Michael Modest test match). I was wearing an ECW shirt, and right before they went on the air, some guy with a head set on came up to me and said, "ya, know, with that shirt on you aren't going to get on camera" and my reponse, was basically, "umm, ok, I don't give a shit" so he went on to tell me that the people in my section would be mad. Anyways, I found it ironic that when I went home and watched the tape, after an interview with Shamrock/Rock/Austin as Raw was going to commercial, the camera went directly on me for about 5 seconds and I was flipping someone off, (I can't remember who). Then at a Nitro, me and my friend were flipping some stupid backstage promo off, and security comes up to us and tells up if we keep doing that we will be escorted out. So I guess I have had my fair share of run-ins with security, and these were guys from the promotions, not just "arena" security
Guest Austin3164life Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 So that's why there were a limited number of signs. It didn't seem like a normal WWF crowd where ever person, almost, is carrying a sign. I can guarantee "Goldberg", "Austin 3:16", and "Vince Sucks" signs were taken away......
Guest RetroRob215 Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 The ECW shirt story was pretty funny. When I went to SmackDown! (March 2000), we were in the upperdeck. Someguy had a "Rocky Sucks" sign complete with Christmas lights. People started throwing sodas at him and the sign was confiscated. It's not like the cameras would pick up the sign and if anyone should have been punished, it should've been the guys who were throwing shit.
Guest jimmy no nose Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Now that they have other fan notes up, no one else has mentioned it. They did say that a guy who started a Goldberg chant was taken away because he wouldn't sit down or something.
Guest RetroRob215 Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Well, if the guy refuses to sit down and blocks the view of other paying customers, he should be asked to leave regardless of whether or not he started a GOLDBERG chant.
Guest Hayabusa Moleman Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Yeah, Goldberg chant guy was taken away because he wouldn't sit down. He was standing up all night trying to get that stupid chant going. After the people in his row had their signs taken away he was yelling at security and threatening to kick their ass and shit like that. Then he got taken away for a little bit.
Guest Zero_Cool Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 The guy was starting those chants right in the middle of RVD's comebacks...that bastard. Anyway, I wonder how many "HHH stole my insulin needle" signs are being taken up daily....
Guest art_vandelay Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 What happened during the main event that caused the entire crowd to stand up and look to the left of the arena (camera's left)?
Guest AM The Kid Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 They checked every damn sign here in Calgary when they were here last time.
Guest Chuck Woolery Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Dammit... If they stop me from chanting X-Pac sucks, well... blah. They're dumb. Anyways... look for me, I'll be the one with an RVD thumb on my right hand and the Hardyz finger on my left hand trying to hold up a "Heyman Fears The Red Sox!" sign. Get it? Because of the Yankees hat? - Mike Van Siclen. Oh, I kill me.
Guest Human Fly Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 I remember the good old days when no matter what the sign said it was allowed. Many were called fags, many F bombs were dropped, etc. JR used to always go "freedom of speech in the WWF". Not anymore.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 The wrestlers encourage you to chant 'X-Pac Sucks'. It doesn't make any sense. Maybe they finally realized that it isn't normal heel heat, but they never did anything before. Edge, especially, tried to provoke the chant whenever he fought X-Pac. I miss the mid 90s with all the "Shawn's a fag" chants. The man was hated in Canada long before Montreal, even as a face.
Guest jimmy no nose Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 So signs definitely were taken away, but I'm not sure if the chant thing was true.
Guest Austin3164life Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 I remember how every time Shawn went to Canada they booed him mercilessly. Plus, they did the same thing in MSG while Shawn wrestled Sid. People (mainly guys) were booing the shit out of him, and HBK was looking all upset. The only wrestlers I can think of who were cheered everywhere they went were Hogan, Austin, The Rock, and to a certain extent Bret Hart (his American pops died down towards the end)......
Guest cabbageboy Posted June 25, 2002 Report Posted June 25, 2002 Well, considering that Bret badmouthed the USA for nearly a year in an angle is it a shock his pop would die in the States?
