Guest raptor Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 From Rajahwwf.com: There are rumors that WWE may put the title on Kurt Angle and have him be portrayed as an "old time" champion who defends against both faces and heels. So what do you guts think? Could this "Shades of Grey" attempt work? I think he has enough of a fanbase, and his character has a goofy enough edge to make it work.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 A Kurt title win is all good. ALL good. But I'm not sure how well this would work. The problem is that Kurt is both a very strong heel and also made to look dumb. I think they should try it on the Undertaker right now since his title run is going nowhere, and even the marks think "he's a badass" even when he's a heel. I guess it would all depend if Kurt gets incredibly cocky like usual or is a humble Champion. Knowing how Vince likes "guys with attitude," it will probably be the first choice. Thus the fans will boo and it will fail.
Guest GenerationNever Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I like this idea. Heels and faces suck anyways.
Guest Angle is Wrestling Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I guess that's why he's starting a feud with 'Taker. KURT AS CHAMPION AGAIN? YESSSSSS A reason to watch WWE progamming for sure.
Guest Prince Paul Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 That would surely be nice, if they don't book him as a comedy champion.
Guest Austin3164life Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Kurt Angle has been on a roll this year, and besides the whole shaved head debacle, he's being looked at as a more respected wrestler rather than a dorky character. Sure, he still has that dork-like behavior, but from what it seems as of late (especially beating Hogan), the WWE is trying to make him a character that demands respect, and how fitting is that. Angle is the best all-around wrestler on the entire roster and he deserves to be the next #1 man for the WWE. I could see a nice Main Event Scene with Kurt as the #1 heel and RVD as the #1 face.......
Guest I Fear Hogans Air Guitair Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 That would be cool Kurt as the Champ that takes on all comers i think that is the Direction they should go but for Kurt to win the title he would have to wait Until the PPV after Summerslam Because if they want the split to work they can't have a SD guy get a shot at Vengance (they probably will give it to Rock or angle Anyway though).
Guest BigTim2002 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I'm just waiting to see what Anglesault has to say. I'm all for it. A credible champ with some heat behind him. YAY!
Guest Shaved Bear Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I'm just waiting to see what Anglesault has to say. I'm all for it. A credible champ with some heat behind him. YAY! credible? heat? for a champ? that just doesnt make sense, considering the track record as of late
Guest BobbyWhioux Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 You're not going to hear me complain about who the champion is when Angle's champion, that's for sure... As for the shades of gray, I think that's a pretty stiff challenge for a "creative" (wink wink nudge nudge) team with such a miserable track record when it comes to nuance and subtle detail as the WWE's. Then again, maybe a shades of gray person, who would be flip-flopping back between face and heel week to week depending on what his opponent was, on the other hand a persona that not only can survive but NEEDS a sort of lack of continuity to work properly might be right up the "creative" team's proverbial alley. So hey, here's to hopin', right?
Guest Anglesault Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 He's going no where as long as he SPOILER Has to squeak by and may be feuding with this Typewriter guy.
Guest TheDames7 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 He's going no where as long as he SPOILER Has to squeak by and may be feuding with this Typewriter guy. Why do you call John Cena the Typewriter guy? Anyway, I think the point they were trying to make was that Cena can hold his own. I mean, everyone gave him props in the back, including UT, so they're making it seem as if almost beating Angle is a big deal. You didn't see that happen for Randy Orton when he beat Holly in his debut. Besides, later on in the night, they push Angle as a legit contender for the Undisputed title...I don't see the problem.

My point is, if they are trying to make someone a credible threat for the world title, they should MANHANDLE all newcomers and rookies. If Angle had that hard of a time beating Typo, how will he beat Undertaker?
Guest TheDames7 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 He beat him last week didn't he? The fact that he didn't get manhandled by Angle is what puts Cena over..it does nothing to hurt Angle, especially when he starts a program with the world champion. Dames
Guest Anglesault Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 He beat him last week didn't he? With a fluke backslide
Guest TheDames7 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Well, if you read the SD spoilers, you'll see that Angle slaps on the Ankle Lock on UT and lets it go, to signify that he can put it on at any time. If that's not showing superiority, then dammit, show me what else needs to be done. A squash? Considering UT was going into a match with HHH at the ppv for the title, a pinfall on his had best be questionable at best. Nothing wrong with that booking.
Guest Anglesault Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Oh, I'm sorry, you were talking about the Taker/Angle match. I thought you were talking about the Angle/Taipei match on this weeks Smackdown.

Guest Anglesault Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 No really, I just misread it. Yes, he did beat taker last week. Thanks to HHH. And this week, he barely beat Tampon with a backslide. He still doesn't look like a guy that could beat a world champion without Jesus interfering.
Guest jester Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I personally like this idea, and I think Angle is one of the few wrestlers with both the skills and personality to pull it off, if they can just stop pulling his shorts down for awhile. This old school idea is something they haven't tried in a long time, and at this point, different is good. At least, this kind of different is. jester
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I like the idea too. It is something different for the wwe to try and if they feel they need to take the title from the undertaker why not stick it on kurt angle. i'd like to see a tournament for the title sometime soon. a 16 man similar to wrestlemania 4 would be sweet.
Guest DrTom Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I like the idea. The problem is, heel vs heel matches tend to have very poor heat, so Angle's character needs to be more of a badass and less of a doofus for this to really work. If they can keep the belt on him for six months or so and give it some stability on a credible champion, so much the better.

Guest Phr33k Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 Do you call John Cena "Typewriter" because, well, Proto-type-writer? If you understand that...
Guest claydude14 Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 i remember seeing prototype on a discovery channel show or something. im glad to see angle give him the rub
Guest Shaved Bear Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 well they are putting new people over, in the abscence of a certain individual (and before you complain, yes he does have to do with everything)
Guest HartFan86 Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 If Kurt wins, I go nuts...since I'll be there live in Boston
Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 I don't agree with the "Angle needs to never look weak" bit. Triple H does that, Hogan does that, and Austin did that. We see what happened there. -Shiro
Guest Austin3164life Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 Kurt Angle will be the Champion damnit! Serously, I can see Kurt Angle becoming the next big thing (not Brock), because he's the most fluid all-around wrestler that has come around in a long while, and all he needs is a charisma increase. It would've been nice to see Kurt go over Austin @ WM 19 to retire him in an Iron Man Match, but we can't always get what we want with the WWE. Bottom line is, they should push Kurt to the moon, because (with the exception of RVD) Kurt is their main guy that can carry a wrestling promotion.....
