Guest Angle is Wrestling Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Everyone is saying the next WWE PPV is Vengeance. They just had this PPV in December. It was the one where they had the 4 man tourny for to crown the first ever Undisputed Champion. Even though it's not in the same calander year, it seems as if the WWE is having the same PPV twice in the period of a year. Damn, you know the writing is bad when you have the same PPV twice in one year.
Guest Army Eye Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Yeah. What is so great about 'Vengeance' that they have to use it twice? I so hate the meaningless PPV names like Vengeance, No Mercy, Backlash, etc.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Vengence is the name of the July PPV now as December's is again called "Armageddon." December's name change occured because the WWF didn't think it was wise to use a PPV with that name three months after a terrorist attack. I'm sure if WCW still existed, the "World War III" PPV would have been cancelled that year, too. The interesting thing about Vengence this year is that the red V looks near-identical to InVasion. Of course, they're practically booking on lunch napkins the day of the show anymore, so to assume that gives any indication of the card would be foolish.
Guest Perfect Plex Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 December's name change occured because the WWF didn't think it was wise to use a PPV with that name three months after a terrorist attack. Well, considering the way they whored Angle's patriotism around that time, I don't know why they should suddenly develop some scruples about it a few months later.
Guest Prince Paul Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 Say goodbye to Fully Loaded everyone, and let's welcome back Armageddon, shall we?
Guest The Hollywood Fashion Plate Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I think Vengeance sounds about 400X better than Fully Loaded anyway.
Guest joshicho Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 They cant call a PPV Fully Loaded anymore! Since when has a WWE show been Fully Loaded? I mean, if Taker vs HHH is Fully Loaded, and if Brock Lesnar(t hear the crowd noise) maineventing is Fully Loaded, then they should call it that [/sarcasm]
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I liked the Fully Loaded name. And to be honest, the WWF came up with pretty much the best Pay Per View names. I mean, I tried to think of names for an E-fed once, and every cool one was taken by them, leading to he LAYME "Anarchy," which is beyond banal in the Teenage/Young Adult world.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I think they should go back to naming the non big 5 ppvs In Your House : (Subtitle), and ditch some of these crappy PPV names.
Guest mach7 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 I think they should go back to naming the non big 5 ppvs In Your House : (Subtitle), and ditch some of these crappy PPV names. No way. In Your House would remind people too much of Todd Pettingill. *shudders at the thought of the buck-toothed mullet man*
Guest dreamer420 Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 i don't like fully loaded as the name of a pay per view. a lot of the ppv names should go and I wish the wwe would use a couple of the names from wcw. souled out and slamboree were always my favs from wcw.
Guest DrTom Posted June 26, 2002 Report Posted June 26, 2002 They can call it "Colostomy Bag" for all I care, as long as the matches are good and the feuds are booked compellingly. It's a lot to ask for, I know, since we seem to be experiencing the nadir of the company's creativity. But the title of the show is meaningless as long as the quality is there.

Yeah. WCW always had the better PPV names, except in the last couple years when Russo started using crap like 'Sin' and 'Greed'
Guest JaKyL25 Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 As far as PPV names go, WCW was hit-and-miss with me. Superbrawl, The Great American Bash, Fall Brawl, Halloween Havoc, and Starrcade were all great. I never really cared for the names Spring Stampede, Slamboree, Hog/Road Wild, or Mayhem. Bash at the Beach was just innacurate, except that one year (95) it was actually AT the beach. Souled Out worked the first time, since it was an nWo renegade PPV. It made no sense for WCW to pick up the name afterwards, though. Uncensored would have worked if there was actually something more extreme at this PPV than the normal ones, like the original concept but better. This also gets low marks from me as it is the ONLY PPV in history where Hogan managed to main event every single one of them! With a 4-0-1 record at that! I always thought it seemed rather odd that World War III occurred every year, but to number them sequentially beginning with III would be in somewhat poor taste. Funny though. "Welcome fans, to World War VII!" New Blood Rising would have been okay if the angle had actually lasted that long. As far as the experimental ones in the final few months, i.e. Sin and Greed, stuff like that could have worked really well, IMO, with some really good writing to back it up conceptually. I mean, Flair at the time was controlling a heel group named the Magnificent Seven, who over the course of 6 months destroyed 7 major faces (Well, 6 major faces and The Cat). If someone could subtly work something in there about each member of the Mag. 7 representing one of the Seven Deadly Sins, and having their own tantamount mega-face, with 7 PPVs in a row named after Sins, with the MegaBlowoff just being named "Sin", I think it could have been really sweet. But alas, 'twas not to be. Back on topic: Armageddon is a really odd name for a PPV, and the fact that Armageddon is now a yearly occurrence in the WWE is rather peculiar. I assume the PPV name (which was first used in Dec. 99) originally referred to the Y2K fears, but now it seems outdated if that was the case. I say KEEP Fully Loaded in July, Vengeance in Dec., and scrap Armageddon, or better yet, save it for that time in the (not-too-distant?) future of the FINAL WWE PPV.

Back when I first saw "Armageddon" on a calendar, I assumed it was replacing WrestleMania as the show where all the feuds are blown off.
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 Of the none "big 5" WWE/F PPVs, I think No Mercy has the best name with Unforgiven, Fully Loaded and No Way Out being not bad, but the worst of the bunch. I thought Over The Edge was a cool name, but it won't be used again for obvious reasons.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 They can call it "Colostomy Bag" for all I care, as long as the matches are good and the feuds are booked compellingly. The ME can be Ric Flair v. Hogan v. Taker v. VKM
Guest griffinmills Posted June 27, 2002 Report Posted June 27, 2002 I'm all for the "In Your House" name with subtitle IF they go back to IYH pricing. Not a single thing has driven me away from WWE PPVs more than their pricing. I used to buy EVERY PPV, IYH or Wrestlemania. It didn't matter. But now they want, what, $35 per PPV? It is hard to beleive that the IYH was once $15. As far as names go. The big 5 ppv names are all good, either seasonal or descriptive of the event(Summerslam vs. Royal Rumble.) 'Geddon makes sense as the end of the year ppv, end of year bringing up lots of imagery of endings. No extra silly stuff like Road Wild or Bash at the Beach please though :-)

Guest Austin3164life Posted June 28, 2002 Report Posted June 28, 2002 WWE needs to cut their ppvs to the "Big 5" (RR, WM, KOTR, SS, SS) to avoid a lot of overexposure, and to make ppvs worth buying because there will be months of buildup for feuds and these 5 ppvs have big names. Buyrates will increase as overexposure decreases......
Guest Choken One Posted June 28, 2002 Report Posted June 28, 2002 Names aren't that important to me. I've always perfered the Classic 5 (Survivor Series being the best). As for the non-Classics? No Way Out: This has always seemed like a Subtitle to IYH (which it was at one point) but it lacks appeal. Backlash: One of the worst of all titles...It's used as a indicator that NOT EVERYTHING had settled at WM. Judgement Day: One of my personal favorites. Fully Loaded: A horrible name by any means. Unforgiven: This must be the oldest Non-classic PPV and yet it's not the most creative. No Mercy This is the best of the Non-classics. Simple Imagery. Vengence: Sounds like the Marketing Group looked in a Theasarus for Revenge. Armageddeon: Has that "Final Showdown" name. Other short lived Titles Over the Edge: Good title but not only would it gotten annoying when every heel said "This sunday..."I will go OVER THE EDGE". Rock Bottom: Worse title for a PPV ever. This was just a glorified Rock promotion. Buried Alive: While it decribed the Main Event...it sounded stupid ...Welcome to Buried Alive!" sounds like the Carnival rolled through Town. It's Time: Stupid. DX: Also Stupid. WCW had a good idea going with the "7 Deadly Sins" but what about Lust and Gluttony. Try selling those as $30 PPV Events to casual viewers. Starrcade, Halloween Havoc, Superbrawl and Great American Bash were the good titles. WW3 was horrible creative thinking. Uncensored never lived up to it's name. Slamborre was O.K but it sounds weird. Bash at the Beach was a flase name, since save for 1995, it never occured on a beach and on one occasion...It didn't even occur in a Beach city. Fall Brawl was just wrong and besides...War Games selled better. Spring Stampede never needed the seasonal addition "WCW STAMPEDE" would have worked fine. Meyhem sounded like a random selected title with no thought process. Road Wild/Hog Wild were not only located in the worst possible venue but were titled wrong. Souled Out was bland. Although it is hard to think of creative titles...people who get paid for it should do better.
