American Idol Season 8

Recommended Posts

Yeah that Alexis chick is so forgettable that Randy Jackson couldn't recall her name, calling her Allison instead. In fact I was a little baffled at the actual Allison being in the bottom 3 since she was pretty good.

No fanbase, sadly. I think that there's a bit of a backlash against the 16 year olds. Naturally, I blame Archie.

Okay, Adam was great, no frontin here...that was a damn good performance!

Once they trim out the remaining fat-Sarver and Megan-this is going to be a super tough final 8. Probably the best we've had in a few seasons.

Matt? Really? I thought he was pretty good but during the review portion I notice that I'd forgotten that the guy even sang. Which, to be honest, may have had more to do with Emo Boy and Allison than Matt. Still, I thought Kris was better, but really, it's a tossup.

Anyway, we've got a clear top 4 in Emo Boy, Allison, Danny and Lil. Kris, I see as the number 5 right now but Matt/Anoop are also interchangeable in the 5/6/7 slots. Not losing sleep however you want to order them here.

I'm calling Scott Blind Guy from now on. He really has no business continuing on at this point, but the problem is neither do Sarver and Hippychick. He shouldn't be sniffing the final seven, but then again, Josh Blue (who has cerebral palsy) shouldn't have won Last Comic Standing 4. Hippychick is probably getting votes from VFTW and whoever the hell voted for KKKLC last year, so she sticks around for another week, and Sarver goes.

You've honestly got Lil over Giraud? I'll give you Danny, but Lil hasn't done well pretty much from the start of the top 12 while Matt has improved week after week.

Adam was the best last night, hands down.

Scotty Mac's just getting to be too bland, but he's not worse than Sarver or Megan, come on now.

Basically I ask myself "Do I see X possibly winning the competition?" At this moment I see Lil as one of those, but yes, she's on the bubble so to speak. But you look at the judges comments and to me it seems that they think she's F4 material. If they're not forced to burn their save on Allison (if she's B3 again I'm gonna start adding a "Voters hate Salvadoran-Americans" comment to every post) they'll probably use the mulligan on Lil.

Asking the same question of Matt, Kris and Anoop, I'd say "no". I agree that Matt shows the most improvement, but similar to Kris there's something of a je ne sais quoi that keeps me from putting him higher at this point. However, I wouldn't have pegged Elliot Yamin as final 5 (never mind final 3) and Matt seems to be taking a similar path week by week, so it's probably good news for him. He's probably getting picked up by 19 regardless - the Buble/Yamin thing could probably sell records.

No, he's not, which is why I'm not pegging him for elimination just yet. Top eight seems about right because even if he is bland, he at least is comfortable with being a Lite Rock kinda guy.

Hippychick, frankly, shouldn't even have made the finals, but somebody must like her. Witness last week - SHE'S SICK!! SHE'S STILL COMPETING!! - vs Sarver's "Yeah, I was sick. <shrug>." Speaking of which, Sarver is getting through based on being a good guy who gives 100%. Full credit for that, but he's in way over his head.

lil is in it because she's the only non-WASP, and thus the only one with any kind of niche demographic at this point. she's there because they need a Black Girl With A Big Voice, even though her voice isn't nearly as big (or as good) as previous years' BGWABIVs (mandisa, the black girl who wasn't melinda 2 years ago, etc.).

sarver would have a fighting chance if he made smart artistic choices to make up for his lack of range. he's got a very good voice that can do a very limited number of things, and so did david cook, but sarver just doesn't have that savvy. at this point i doubt ANYONE on the show has that much savvy (matt's shown glimpses of it but doesn't have that "genius" consistency; adam takes risks but is VERY hit-or-miss), but all the other guys have amazing sets of pipes to make up for it. has anybody else noticed that sarver is the only guy that doesn't have a great falsetto? in terms of pure vocal ability this might be the best group of guys they've ever had.

i think he's gone tonight. megan deserves to be shot after her performance, and she's also not as likable as sarver, but i think she'll be able to barely scrape by week after week like her irritating blonde mormon predecessor (whose name i can't remember), who was safe as long as someone else did badly that week.

Brooke White. The difference is that Brooke was beaten down to the point where she looked like she wanted to go, but the votes kept bringing her back. Hippychick, I think, does not recognize that she's getting raked over the coals.

Despite his being from Chapel Hill, Anoop doesn't really fall into the WASP category. I understand that there's a pretty considerable Indian voting bloc out there that probably saved his ass after that "Beat It" abortion a couple of weeks ago.

but he still sings only WASPy music. unless he does "paper planes" or something one week. which would be awesome.

I liked that Sarver (correctly) pointed at Matt when Seacrest asked "Who does not belong in the B3". Also liked that Simon was trying to force Paula to say if she said "yes" or "no" to keeping Michael. It was a good run, but the right person went home. Even if we have to put up with Hippychick for another week.

Seriously, Allison, then Matt in the B3? WTF?

Sarver rightfully was sent packing tonight. Why do the judges huddle and debate these weaker singers as though they won't send them packing? There was no suspense to that. He's mediocre, send him packing.

Megan is clearly getting the VFTW love this year. She's just hysterically awful every week, but it's at least memorable.

I can handle Scott going next week, but if Matt goes before Megan and hell even Lil, there's a fucking problem. Truth be told, I think he's better than Danny Gokey, but Gokey has that likability factor that Simon has harped on for years, so being less talented than Matt won't hurt him.

OK, next week the theme is apparently "Top Downloads". Which I guess means they're singing porn soundtracks.

David Cook and Lady Gaga are singing on the results show, if you're so inclined to watch something other than the last 5 minutes.

On Tuesday, a rep for show producers FremantleMedia North America, Manfred Westphal, said “The Idols don’t lip-sync, period.”

However, things quickly changed on Wednesday, when via email Westphal confessed to the New York Times, “Due to extensive choreography and to balance their voices with open mikes against a screaming audience, the Idols do sing along to their own prerecorded vocal track during the group performances only.”

How do you guys watch this show? Jesus Christ!

Are you bitching that they sing-a-long on a group performance? Most award shows have vocal tracks in the background or background singers singing along when artist are dancing all over the place.

I don't think it has anything to do with Danny being more likable then Matt. I think it's due to Matt's lack of dead wife.

I'm sorry, was this the point where we're supposed to care about a shitty group performance?

Adam better fucking win this. That was amazing. And the guy hasn't disappointed me at all this season. (Not even with the weird Johnny Cash arrangement)

I didn't think I was going to like him. He was in the same boat as that Nathan guy, or whoever the other emo kid was at the beginning, but he has by far surpassed the other competitors in my mind with his performances.

Gotta say Adam has shown he has the talent. Was annoying at first, now he found his niche. Danny has kinda been on autopilot the last few weeks, he needs to step up, you can't coast on fan sentiment alone, Scott had that happen last night. Allison also continues to impress, and finally wasn't in the bottom 3. Also been impressed by Kris lately. Not that impressed by Matt, though he did a good job this week. But his style is relevent in today's music scene so he could make it. Tough final 7 left, although I'd say Lil and Anoop really need to wow next week.

Much better season that last years all around.

I can't believe the stooges took so much time to decide not to save Scott. The guy has been horrible all season long.

I'm thinking Anoop is the next boot.

Yeah Anoop is likely gone next week unless he wows everyone. I can't help but think Scott could have had more of a career 30 years ago when white bread singers like Christopher Cross were on the charts. He's total late 70s/early 80s soft rock.

Kinda blah show tonight. I thought Anoop was pretty good and Adam did his usual crazy performance, but overall it was kind of boring. And note to FOX, if you are worried about going overtime, how about cutting one of your commercial breaks. The last one was totally unneccesary and took far too long, Lil didn't start her song untill about 858. FOX is far too concerned with getting a boost to Fringe's ratings it seems.

Lill sucks. If she didn't go last, I'd say she would be going home. Probably Matt or Anoop will go, imo.

Still went over despite cutting into the judges time? Lame.
