That's too bad about Crank 2, I saw it yesterday and it is even more over the top (and in a good way) that the original Crank. Had pretty much everyone from the first one, and was a straight sequal, literally taking place seconds after the first one ended, with a fun, yet pretty unbelievable storyline. But I really enjoyed it, in the same vein of Shoot Em Up, etc.

Not surprised to see 17 Again on top. I guess people are getting down on Statham as I know I haven't heard great things on his past few. I saw a preview for Crank 2 on a Blu-ray I was watching the other day and it seemed pretty cheesy, but I still have the first one on my "to watch" list, so I can't fairly judge.

Crank 2 didn't cost very much to make ($12 million according to wikipedia) so it's virtually guaranteed to make a profit, if not in theatres then on dvd.

Ideally, WWE movies would be churning out films like Crank: big, dumb, ridiculous action films full of violence and gratuity. Okay, they're never going to make art movies, but you can still make low budget action films well. Maybe WWE could get a screenwriter who isn't ripping off plots from other movies (the condemned was basically battle royale, and 12 rounds was a combination of Die hard 3 and The Marine.)

I saw Crank 2 on Saturday and I really wasn't impressed by it. It was similar to the first one, but it lacked the frantic pacing that the first one had and there were 3 or 4 major WTF moments in the last 30 minutes that seemed so out of place and random.

I think that was the point of it though, to be out of place and random, that was the deal with the whole movie, it was just a wild train wreck of a debacle of sorts, just like the first Crank. Over the top craziness.

It was also written and directed by the same guy as the first Crank, which explains the similarities and the heavy tie-in to the first one.

Was this as dumb as it looked?

The big problem that Crank 2 wasn't able to overcome is the entire plot of the first film. When I first heard about a sequel I thought "How in the hell is that even possible?" Apparently a lot of other people felt that way, though I did like the trailers. Even then however the trailers are full of goofy joke stuff with Statham rubbing against people or shocking himself to stay alive. Almost more comedic than hard edged.

Was I the only one hoping for a sequel to Crank? He's laying there with his eye open and we get a quick heart beat sound as they cut to black, I was waiting for them to show him standing again after the credits.

It was like a live-action cartoon, if the sequel can achieve that I'm in.

Yeah, that is totally what this film is, a live-action cartoon/video game or something.

And the sequal literally picks up after that singular moment you are mentioning. And it plays incredibly well to the original, almost to the point that you need to watch the first one again before seeing this, just to see how all of the characters and previous story plays into this one (which is does alot of).

And of course the Crank films are supposed to be more comedic than hard edged, just like Shoot Em Up was. Again, that's the point.
