Jaime Noble vs. Rey Mysterio at Vengeance

Assuming this match goes down, it's safe to say that Mysterio will win. But here's my question: Why do they always give the Cruiserweight/LHW belt to someone right after they debut? Does this help the belt or hurt it?

Jerry Lynn won the belt in his first WWF match. X-Pac won the WCW version right after the Invasion started. Dean Malenko won the WWF/WWE belt very shortly after his debut. So have Jamie Noble, Taka Michinoku, Christian, Essa Rios, and Tajiri. And unless something weird happens, Mysterio will win it this month.

My first thought is that it's good for the belt to be on someone the fans are familiar with. But at the same time, having so many title switches looks bad, in addition to the fact that it looks so easy to win it. It makes the cruiser division look weak when they're constantly looking for a "savior" every three months or so, and they allow him to just walk in and get the belt in no time.

Wouldn't it be better to have some stability? Have Noble (or whoever they deem worthy) keep the belt for some time so it means something when he loses it?

Its a way to "jump start" the division but it really just cheapens it IMO. I say have Rey Jr. feud with someone and Noble and Hurricane have a Mask vs. Title match.

Maybe they plan to keep the title on Rey for a longer period. With his look and his style he will be a big fan favourite and a good champ. But you're right it would be better to build up a credible champ and let the other cruisers hunt him. Rey chasing a heel champ while building a WWE fan base would probably be even better than Rey as champ right away...

It helps the belt in this case. Rey's being hyped as a major star.

i think noble will keep the title a little longer. rey doesn't need the title win in his first match to get himself over. he is wrestling in dark matches and getting huge pops. noble needs to keep the title and keep building from the heat he has all ready.

But that's what they were supposedly going to do with Jerry Lynn, Essa Rios, Jeff Hardy, Tajiri, and every other guy brought in to "jump-start" the division. They'll give it to Mysterio, then he'll lose it as soon as someone like Shannon Moore comes in or when someone like X-Pac or Matt Hardy gets "demoted" to the cruisers. And the match will probably be an afterthought. Then someone else new comes in, and they start all over again.

I think it hurts the belt. If they had any sense at all, they'd be building Knoble (a guy that most casual WWE fans dont know much about) as an unstoppable "cruiserweight monster" and mowing through all the competition. Then about 2 weeks away from Vengeance, have Rey start doing random run-ins on Knoble, saving the CW that he's beating up. They can have their match at Vengeance, but have Knoble come out with the title.. losing by DQ or C/O. Unfortunately, though, WWE has lost all knowledge that it once had about BUILDING FEUDS. ARGH!

None of the others you mentioned got as much buildup as Rey is getting right now.

maybe (and this is a big maybe) they're going to use rey as part of the regular roster & not part of the cruiserweights. the cruiserweights seem to be getting over pretty well on their own (mostly thanks to helms) and appear to be a hell of a lot more fresh & exciting than the regular roster.

rey would look like a midget in the regular roster and would have to change his style. Are you serious?

WWE rules state there can only be two cruiserweights on TV in one month. Sorry folks, that's just how it is.

although, to be fair, I'm not going to be complaining when Rey wins the title in his first match. It just doesn't excuse the fact that Knoble should still be fighting Helms (who should still have the belt, by the way).

I guess I must have been hallucinating then when I watched Velocity this week, because there were like 7 on that one show alone IIRC.

right. I guess we should be thankful they got such valuable prime time exposure this week.

velocity is the smackdown brands second show. much like heat for the raw roster. they feature a lot of cruiserweight matches.

I don't know about making Knoble a "monster." He doesn't really strike me as the ultra-ass kicker. Maybe if you want to employ him as more of the "annoying guy who cheats his way past guys" and then locks on the Trailer Hitch long after the match is over, it would work a little better than just having him come out and pound people.

I do think it would be a pretty good idea to let Rey chase Knoble a little before they hand the belt over to him. I would want to be sure Rey's knees are up to taking day in, day out punishment before having him carry the division. That's just me though.

I would give the title to Rey at Summerslam and have him hold it for at least 4-5 months. I find Knoble and Nidia to be pretty entertaining but I think putting the belt on Rey would really elevate the CW division. A Rey vs. Hurricane fued would definitely kick ass.
