Guest TheSmarkzone Posted July 3, 2002 Report Posted July 3, 2002 IMO, the most elite club of wrestlers in the WWE are those who have won every major title*, been a King of the Ring, headlined a WrestleMania, and won a Royal Rumble. The members of this club are: Stone Cold Steve Austin - WWE champion, I.C. champion, WWE tag team champion, 1996 KOR, 1997/1998/2001 Royal Rumble winner, headlined WrestleMania 14, 15, X-7, and some would argue 13 Bret "Hitman" Hart - WWE champion, I.C. champion, WWE tag team champion, 1993 KOR, 1994 Royal Rumble winner, headlined WrestleMania 9, 10, 12, and arguably 13 HHH - WWE champion, I.C. champion, WWE tag team champion, European champion (Making him a Grand Slam winner as well), 1997 KOR, 2001 Royal Rumble winner, headlined WrestleMania 2000 and X-8 3 guys. That's some elite company. Even more elite than the Grand Slam club of HHH, HBK, and Y2J...IMO. Shawn Michaels doesn't qualify. He was the first Grand Slam winner, he won 2 Royal Rumbles, and he headlined 3 WrestleManias, but he never won the KOR! Chris Jericho, who has held more titles than anybody else in WWE history and has headlined a WrestleMania, also does not qualify because he has failed to win the KOR and the Royal Rumble. The Rock doesn't qualify -- just barely -- because he's never won a KOR. If they had given him the rub in 1998 instead of Shamrock, he'd be a member of this club. * - Excluding European, Hardcore and Light Heavyweight
Guest Anglesault Posted July 3, 2002 Report Posted July 3, 2002 Not just from an Angle Mark, but it can't be long (hopefully) Until Angle joins.
Guest Anglesault Posted July 3, 2002 Report Posted July 3, 2002 Well, I can almost see SPOLIER Angle/Jericho vs. Nostalgic Edge at the PPV, with the non sucky wrestlers winning. After that, only Rumble and Mania.
Guest TheSoleSurvivor Posted July 3, 2002 Report Posted July 3, 2002 I agree, that that should those should be the standard for the super-duper WWF fraterninty. BUT.....the King of the Ring thing is shakey. I mean, it's nice to win the Tournament and have it next to your name, but honestly, has it done wonders for EVERYONE's career? For example, Mabel, Billy Gunn and to a lesser extent, HHH. HHH didn't exactly set the world on fire after he won the King of the Ring. But still, there are a few counterpoints, namely, Austin. And yes, AS, Angle will get there soon. Hopefully, he'll win the Royal Rumble 2003 and kick ass in the WM main event. Hopefully......however, if my calculations are correct, the ME for WM will be Test vs. a Horseshoe Crab.
Guest Mattdotcom Posted July 3, 2002 Report Posted July 3, 2002 But didn't they make a match... *SPOILER* ...between Jericho & Edge for the PPV? I see Jericho costing Spear-a-Mania the belts to Canadian Mafia members Storm & Christian the SmackDown before Vengeance. *SPOILER*
Guest Anglesault Posted July 3, 2002 Report Posted July 3, 2002 SPOLIER I figured that match would morph into Angle/Jericho vs. Spear-a-Mania, namely because Angle and Hogan aren't doing anything, the match was "made" before the tag title win, and Hogan and Angle hate eachother. Plus, The MegaDorks have teamed in the past.
Guest TheSmarkzone Posted July 3, 2002 Report Posted July 3, 2002 The King of the Ring is an illusion. It's not an instant career-booster. Austin became a superstar because of his 3:16 promo, not because he won the tournament. The tournament was just an afterthought. Bret was already a superstar when he won it in 1993. HHH became a superstar -- two years after the fact -- because he got the rub from Shawn Michaels. Ken Shamrock, Billy Gunn, Mabel, and even Owen Hart never became superstars. Owen's KOR served one purpose: fuel his feud with Bret for the summer. Bret won it last year, so of course the jealous younger brother cheats to win it the following year so he can say, "Nah, nah, I'm the King!" The jury's still out on Edge.
Guest Anglesault Posted July 3, 2002 Report Posted July 3, 2002 So is Angle the onlyone who really benefitted?
Guest Mr. Slim Citrus Posted July 3, 2002 Report Posted July 3, 2002 As a sidenote to this thread, I find it somewhat curious that of the three "major" titles in the WWF, while only four of the previous nine KOR winners (discounting this year) have gone on to win the WWF World Championship (Bret Hart, Austin, HHH, Angle), all but one (Mabel) have worn the Intercontinental title, and all but one (Angle) have been Tag Team Champion.
Guest TheSmarkzone Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 Kurt would probably accomplish this within the next 1-3 years...if he doesn't leave for the Olympics. All he needs is a tag team title, a Royal Rumble win, and a main event at Mania (Easier said than done as long as Trips is around).
Guest Anglesault Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 The tag title win is a definite, the other two are likely.
Guest Ash Ketchum Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 SPOLIER I figured that match would morph into Angle/Jericho vs. Spear-a-Mania, namely because Angle and Hogan aren't doing anything, the match was "made" before the tag title win, and Hogan and Angle hate eachother. Plus, The MegaDorks have teamed in the past. The MegaDorks? LOL... that's their new name, AS. I like it.
Guest RetroRob215 Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 I say forget the KOTR. Also Jericho hasn't won the most titles, Crash Holly has.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 dont forget club sandwich, which consists of Big Show, Bossman, Albert, Rikishi, Bradshaw, and all your favorite portly hosses
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 Also Jericho hasn't won the most titles, Crash Holly has. They mean the most different titles. Jericho's won them all, except of course the Women's.
Guest Anglesault Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 Okay, pool time. How long before they book Jericho as being so desperate that he challenges for the Women's title?
Guest Brian Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 Shouldn't they have had him win the women's title in the middle of the Chyna feud so he could job it to her?
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 I say 3 months before we see the awesome power of Christine Jericho!
Guest TheHulkster Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 Angle is destined to make that list. He's already won almost all of the belt in the wwf (Hardcore, Euro, IC, World) and is a former KOR. He's one tag title win away from the grand slam, which he might win from Edge/Hogan. If he doesn't go to the olympics, you can guarantee he's going to win the Rumble and face Lesnar in the main at WM.
Guest M Nyland Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 if Lesnar MEs at WMX9.....someone will DIE!
Guest SuperTonyJaymz Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 BTW the Cruiserweight and LHW are basically the same, since they kinda sorta unfied them, but because XPac was still out it was Tajiri vs. Regal.
Guest TheSmarkzone Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 You're right...the only way Brock Lesnar will main event Mania is if Triple H IS dead.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 I am still a mark for the triple crown. Tag, IC, and World. Ever since they had the influx of titles the divisions have been blurred and every title other than the world title have been meaningless.
Guest The Tino Standard Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 I, too, am old school. The Triple Crown is where it's at. The Grand Slam is a little shady because some say it has the be the Euro title, while I've also heard arguments for using ANY title, the KOR, or Royal Rumble as a fourth. To me, if you win the Tag, IC and World Championships, you da man.
Guest RetroRob215 Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 If he doesn't go to the olympics, you can guarantee he's going to win the Rumble and face Lesnar in the main at WM. Why would we guarantee that conisidering the Rock will probably be back by WM?
Guest bob_barron Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 Triple Crowners- Bret Diesel Austin Kane HBK Y2J Triple H Rock Pedro Morales
Guest TheHulkster Posted July 4, 2002 Report Posted July 4, 2002 Then there's the WWF/WCW world title club, which is now extinct =0(. Which includes: Flair Hogan Savage Nash The Big Show Bret Hart The AWA was a big national fed back in the day, but there was only one crossover champ due to Verne's reliance on keeping the same names at the top of the card for decades, Gene Kiniski, who won the NWA belt. The NWA world title crossover champs were few, but there were a couple names, Them being the Nature Boys: Buddy Rogers and Ric Flair, who won the NWA and (W)WWF world title, and Canada's greatest wrestler: Gene Kiniski, who won the AWA and NWA world titles. Since i'm a big mark for world class, i'll throw them in too. The only crossovers for WCCW were "The modern day warrior" Kerry Von Erich and "Ravishing" Rick Rude who both won the NWA world title. Then there's Japan, with the Triple Crown and the IWGP belts. The crossover American Champs are: Chono (NWA, IWGP) Muta (NWA,IWGP,Triple Crown) Inoki (WWF, IWGP) Vader (WCW,IWGP,Triplle Crown) Fujinami (WCCW,IWGP) Hashimoto (NWA,IWGP) Tsuruta (AWA,Triple Crown) Hansen (AWA,IWGP,Triple Crown) Tenryu (Never held an american belt, but held both the Triple crown and the IWGP) and the Immortal Hulk Hogan (WWF,WCW,IWGP)
