My fantasy baseball team

first time I've played fantasy baseball in like 3 years. I think my team is pretty good.       C - Piazza   1B - Richie Sexon & Conor Jackson   2B - Dan Uggla & Julio Lugo   SS - Julio Lugo & Felipe Lopez   3B - David Wright & Alex Gordon (got Gordon in the last round)   OF- Grady Sizemore, Jason Bay, JD Drew & Coco Crisp   SP- Roy Halladay, Brandon Webb, Ervin Santana, Josh Beckett & Rich Harden   RP- K-Rod, Papelbon & Joel Zumaya       10 team league and I feel my team is pretty balanced up and down

2007 MLB Predictions

AL East:   1.) Red Sox 2.) Toronto 3.) NY Yankees 4.) Baltimore 5.) Tampa Bay   Now I know being a Red Sox fan that my picks here are going to be shrugged off and looked at as biased but let me explain why I feel it will play out this way. First of all the Red Sox answered most if not all of their pressing needs from last year. They added the best FA starting pitcher available in Daisuke Matsuzaka, beefed up the bullpen with the additions of J.C. Romero, Brendon Donnely, Joel Piniero, and that Japanese lefty, added a legit lead-off hitter in Julio Lugo, and they brought in a power hitting right fielder that can give Manny protection in the line-up. With those additions all they really need is better luck this year as we watched the whole team go down with injury after injury last season, which is what appears to be happening with the Yankees as we speak. Their best starting pitcher is already out at least a month with an injured hamstring, Pettite is already complaining about elbow discomfort in his throwing arm (which he's had several injuries to in the past already), and Mussina is susposedly feeling back discomfort off and on. Rotation aside the Yankees bullpen doesn't have much in the way of depth this season from what I've seen. Rivera is the best closer in the game so long as he's healthy, that's a given...but all there is to set him up is Scott Proctor (who threw a large amount of innings last season). Phillip Hughes will probably crack the rotation at some point this season but I just see the Yankees going through what the Red Sox went through last season, and with the whole "Will he or won't he opt-out" thing with A-Rod going on all season...well the distractions and injuries will be too much.   AL Central 1.) Detroit 2.) Cleveland (WC) 3.) Chicago 4.) Minn 5.) KC   With or without Kenny Rogers the Tigers will still win that division. The surprise however will be the Twins fading out of contention. Reasons being that Santana just won't be enough on his own. Without both Radke and Liriano this season the team doesn't have enough pitching depth. I expect them to trade Torre Hunter and Luis Castillo sometime during the season as they restock for the 08 season when they'll have a rotation anchored down by both Santana and Liriano. Expect to see the Indians turn their stud pitching prospect Adam Miller into the closer sometime by May and bring in a middle reliever or two by the deadline. That's all they need so long as their current players stay healthy.   AL West 1.) Angels 2.) Oakland 3.) Seattle 4.) Texas   The Angels just have far too much pitching depth to be overcome by any of the other teams in this division. Oakland is still trying to get one full year out of Rich Harden and with both Kotsay and Dan Johnson not appearing to be healthy anytime soon...well they don't have enough. My major prediction however is that the Angels solve their one glaring need (that of another power bat in the line-up) by aquiring Miguel Cabrera from Florida at the trade deadline. I imagine Brandon Wood to be part of the deal but I'm not about to play GM. I just know that the Angels need another power bat desperately and the Marlins will have one at a position that most of the other contenders in baseball with the prospects to aquire him will be set at.   NL East 1.) Atlanta 2.) Philli (WC) 3.) NY Mets 4.) Florida 5.) Washington   Atlanta is another team that solved its problems during the off-season. Their bullpen alone probably caused them the division last year so what did they do? They brought in Mike Gonzales (who will likely be their future closer and could battle Wickman for the spot this year) and Rafael Soriano which are two major power arms to come in. So long as Smoltz, Hudson, and Hampton stay healthy this team should start its pennant run over. They have enough good young talent to surround the Jones boys with so that the offense won't be a problem. The Mets sliding down to third in my standings after being a few outs from the World Series may surprise alot of people but look at their pitching. Pedro is done, and beyond Tom Glavine they don't really have anything. John Maine should be fairly solid but he's not ready to shoulder the load that team is going to have. The Phillies are going to have a great rotation when everybody is healthy but their middle relief and set-up is ultimately going to be the difference between them winning the division and earning the Wild Card spot.   NL Central 1.) St. Louis 2.) Milwaukee 3.) Cubbies 4.) Houston 5.) Cinci 6.) Pitt   Clemens will play one more year in Houston but he'll be limited to hamstring issues or something and Roy Oswalt can't pitch everyday. St. Louis, while losing a couple pieces of their starting rotation will still be a better team than any of the others in the division. The big surprise here will be the young talent of the Brewers starting to finally gel and break-out.   NL West 1.) Dodgers 2.) Diamondbacks 3.) Padres 4.) Giants 5.) Rockies   Barry Zito alone won't save San Fran and Bonds will likely shut it down after he steals the homerun record from Aaron. The Dodgers have too much pitching, too much speed, and too many chips they can trade off to fix any problems they should run across.   AL Cy Young: Roy Halladay AL MVP: Grady Sizemore AL RoTY: Daisuke Matsuzaka (although in terms of pure rookies it should probably go to Alex Gordon)   NL Cy Young: Ben Sheets NL MVP: Albert Pujols NL RoTY: Homer Bailey   Playoffs   Divisonal Round: Red Sox over Cleveland Detroit over Angels St. Louis over Atlanta Dodgers over Philli   Championship Round: Red Sox over Detroit in 7 (Boston did play Detroit extremely tough last season, and are a much improved team this season) Dodgers over St. Louis   World Series Red Sox vs. Dodgers and I'm not going to predict it. Just enjoy Nomar and D-Lowe returning to Boston to play October baseball, Beckett vs. Penny in a match-up of two teamates that helped carry that 2003 Marlins team to a world title, Schilling vs. Lowe in a similiar match-up where Lowe was the first pitcher ever to record wins in the deciding games of 3 post season series in the same season while Schilling gave perhaps the guttsiest playoff performance ever, the speed of the Dodgers vs. the power of the Red Sox and J.D. Drew being booed unmercifully in his return to L.A..   This year should be fun.   Edit: Added Pirates and Rockies, although they don't matter.

2007 NFL Mock Draft picks 21-32

21.) Denver - CB Marcus McCauley, Fresno St: Due to the tragic passing of Darrent Williams the Broncos need another good corner. Marcus is a speedster and a better corner than former teammate Richard Marshall whom was drafted by the Panthers in the second round last year.   22.) Dallas - S Michael Griffin, Texas: The Cowboys have two glaring needs; Safety and OG. I don't believe there's an OG worthy of a first round pick so the Cowboys draft for value and grab Griffin to team-up with Roy Williams making possibly one of the most talented safety tandems in the league. Roy can shut down the run while Michael will use his ballhawk abilities to drop back and protect against the pass.   23.) Kansas City - QB Brady Quinn, Notre Dame: And here's your major drop of the year. Quinn has looked average at best in his bowl games (unable to win one) and is coming off a knee injury that could limit him for at least the 07 season. Kansas City is shopping Trent Green and locked up Damon Huard to a three year deal, where in the first year he can start and Quinn can hold the playbook. It makes too much sense to pass up should Quinn be here at this spot, which is very possible (look at Aaron Rodgers).   24.) New England- WR Robert Meachem, Tenn: With the extra pick they got for Deion Branch the Patriots go and draft themselves a WR because quite frankly Reche Caldwell and Jabar Gaffney are not going to light up any scoreboards. The need at reciever is also great at the moment because Chad Jackson is likely to miss most (if not all) of the 07 season with a torn ACL while Troy Brown looks headed to retirement. Meachem is a speed demon with great hands and ok height. He just hasn't recieved the praise of a Ginn Jr or Jarrett.   25.) NY Jets - DE Adam Carriker, Nebraska: Last year the Jets rebuilt their O-line via the draft and this year it appears they'll be looking to rebuild the D-line, especially since the Jets are likely to cut Kimo von Oelhoffen as they try to get closer to the type of 3-4 Mangini likes to run.   26.) Philli - WR Dwayne Bowe, LSU: The Eagles look likely to lose Stallworth to free agency so they grab Bowe to fill the need and pair with Reggie Brown.   27.) New Orleans - CB Darrelle Revis, Pitt: That Saints secondary stinks and they were exposed in the NFC Championship game by the Bears who repeatedly just threw it over the top. Saints grab the best corner available.   28.) New England - S Aaron Rouse, Virginia Tech: An under the radar pick here Rouse can play both safety and LBer which happen to be the Pats two greatest needs on defense. He's also suppose to be a high character person and good locker room guy (just the type the Pats draft).   29.) Baltimore - OT Joe Staley, Central Michigan: The Ravens o-line is aging and probably their only major weakness (should Jamal Lewis resign). Michael Bush is also a possibility here.   30.) San Diego - WR Sidney Rice, South Carolina: Rivers needs WR help as was evidenced in the AFC Divisional game. Eric Parker is nothing special and Keenan McCardell is finally starting to show he's lost a step.   31.) Chicago - TE Greg Olsen, Miami (FL): With Chicago's only glaring need really being QB and nothing here to solve this I feel they go best player available at their position. Greg Olsen can help open up that passing game more and allow the Bears to succesfully run two TE sets with him and Desmond Clark.   32.) Indi - DB Aaron Ross, Texas: Indi needs more than Bob Sanders back there and Ross can play either corner or safety. Too obvious a pick to pass up on.

2007 NFL Mock Draft picks 11-20

11.) San Fran - LB Jon Beason, Miami (FL): Beason might be looked at as a reach for this spot at the moment, but I think his stock is going to continue to rise and by draft day he'll be looked at as a first round pick. Mike Nolan loves his linebackers as was evidenced during his tenure in Baltimore and Beason has the motor of a Jonathan Vilma with the hitting capabilities of Ray Lewis (both also products of "The U"). With Manny Lawson being the only stand-out LBer this pick gives them options as I believe Beason will have success inside or outside in the NFL.   12.) Buffalo - RB Marshawn Lynch, Cal: McGahee has punched his own ticket out of town and while the Bills will need secondary help with Nate Clements leaving, this draft is fairly deep when it comes to CBs. Lynch now and a DB in the second round makes more sense than risking opening up the 07-08 season with no real option in the backfield by grabbing Darrelle Revis Daymeion Hughes now.   13.) St. Louis - OLB Paul Posluszny, Penn St.: The Rams defense besides Leonard Little and Tye Hill is just embarrassing. They have so many needs but the most glaring of all of them is at LBer where they have absolutely nobody on the outside. Both Little and Witherspoon will like this pick as Paul might be the most polished linebacker coming out (so long as his right knee is completely healed from the injury sustained in 06).   14.) Carolina - ILB Patrick Willis, Ole Miss: Now this pick hear probably is a bit of a reach, but with Dan Morgan possibly being finished and the pickings at linebacker starting to become slim the Panthers go and get themselves somebody to man the middle.   15.) Pittsburgh - DE Jarvis Moss, Florida: With the team still figuring out whether it wants to be a 3-4 defense or a 4-3 defense along with Joey Porter possibly headed out of town, the Steelers pick a man that can help them with the situation on a whole. Moss is a terrific pass rusher and reminds me alot of Willie McGinest.   16.) Green Bay - DE Gaines Adams, Clemson: I would think the KGB era is coming close to an end. Adams is possibly the best pure pass rushing end in this draft, but he's still a bit undersized and can't defend the run as well. They could look at DT too but if Gaines were to fall this far then its hard to pass up on him.   17.) Jaguars - S Reggie Nelson, Florida: Looks like Deion Grant is leaving and the Jags really have nothing else at safety. Its a natural fit.   18.) Cinci - DT Amobi Okoye, Louisville: I feel him being only 20 is going to turn off a few clubs but the Bengals interior is in such a desperate need for a pass rush that they can't make that a concern. Besides, with Marvin Lewis mentoring him the age factor should be a non-factor.   19.) Tenn - WR Ted Ginn Jr, Ohio St: David Givens is facing a career threatening injury and Drew Bennett may leave via free agency so it becomes clear that WR is a need. Another good thing about Ginn is he can handle return duty should Pacman be shipped off.   20.) NY Giants - OLB Lawrence Timmons, Florida St: The Giants have no linebackers after Antonio Pierce, well no linebackers worth a damn. Timmons is a little raw but he should come around sooner rather than later and quite frankly if the Giants pass on him then they'll be kicking themselves as there's not a whole lot out there in this pool afterwards.

2007 NFL Mock Draft picks 1-10

following in Ortonsault's foot steps here   1.) Oakland - WR Calvin Johnson, Georgia Tech: I don't feel that Randy Moss will be with this team much longer and while most experts have the Raiders taking Jamarcus Russell, how can you pass on this guy? He's 6'5" 230lbs and ran a fucking 4.35 40! He's an absolute freak, and this is a fairly deep draft in terms of QB. I believe Troy Smith is an option for them at the start of the second round.   2.) Detroit - OT Joe Thomas, Wisconsin: Matt Millen seeing Calvin Johnson off the board sheds a tear and drafts a non-WR at this point. Evidently Millen also loves Thomas and his O-Line needs a guy like this anyways. With Kevin Jones likely out a good portion of the season and this team starting to look like its going through another rebuilding...well they say you always start to build a team in the trenches.   3.) Cleveland - QB Jamarcus Russell, LSU: Ohio fans were hoping to see Troy Smith end up with the Browns but instead they get a QB who won his bowl game. Adrian Peterson is a possibility but at this point I'd take Jamarcus Russell and Reuben Droughns over Charlie Fry and Adrian Peterson. Especially since they could probably grab Michael Bush in the second round, and if not...well Darren McFadden is coming out next year.   4.) Tampa Bay - DE Jamaal Anderson, Arkansas: That Tampa d-line is getting old and with Simeon Rice nearing the end they'll need another good pass rusher. Anderson looks to be an even better prospect than Mario Williams too.   5.) Arizona - RB Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma: Edgerin James looks to have hit the twilight of his career and Arrington and Marcell Shipp also aren't the answer. With this pick Arizona's skill positions are all set on the offensive side of the ball.   6.) Washington - DT Alan Branch, Michigan: Washington was ranked 27th against the Rush last season. Nuff said   7.) Minnesota - CB Leon Hall, Michigan: Fred Smoot is likely gone and this team desperately needs a shutdown corner. The Vikings were pretty much exposed early in the season by the Pats when they just decided to spread'em out and have an empty backfield, then just proceeded to dink and dunk them to death.   8.) Houston - OT Levi Brown, Penn St: I know Brady Quinn is still on the board but I believe Jake Plummer joins his former o-coordinator and now Texans head coach in Houston. That o-line however has been absolutely terrible through-out that franchises existence. This starts to right the ship.   9.) Miami - WR Dwayne Jarrett, USC: I hardly believe the Dolphins will draft a QB a year after giving up a second rounder for Daunte Culpepper, and its looking like Marty Booker is going to be a cap casualty.   10.) Atlanta - S Laron Landry, LSU: Lawyer Milloy is almost done and they have no other solid options at safety. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Petrino try to talk the front office into taking Michael Bush since he knows what Bush is capable of and Warrick Dunn is creeping into his mid-30s.
