what are you basing this list off of? Delivery? Content? Overall? Rakim and Ice T should really be higher if you're going off of the overall package. Rakim should be higher anyway.

Flow, Content, word play, and ability to switch up all of the above. Basically overall. The thing thats holding guys like Rakim, Ice-T, Slick Rick, and keeping guys like Eric Sermon, Big Daddy Kane and Chuck D off the list is their lack of versatitlity. It's hard to rate the older guys for me, a lot of that shit was pretty simple and slow compared to some of the newer guys. Rakim may be a different situation, i haven't heard a whole lot of him. I currently think I'm over rating KRS-One and DMX though.

This is the geekiest thread in the history of the internet.

I know 1 rapper on that list and Eminem sucks so what does that say for the rest of the list?

Of course, I imagine that there are some rappers better than Eminem on that list but still that doesn't make me too excited if I see him at first place.

It's subjective, WP. There is a case that can be made for Em being #1. I don't necessarily agree with that, but a very good case can be made on Em's behalf.

If you only know Eminem on that list, then you really have no business criticizing it because about 80% of the guys Carnival named deserve to be on it. I think you only knowing Eminem on that list says more about your lack of knowledge about rappers and hip hop than anything else.

Yeah, I know it says I have lack of knowledge about this music genre.

BTW, BlackEyedPeas are my favourite group who can sing rap. "Don't Funk With My Heart" is pretty good.

It says you don't know much about rap from the 80s-90s if you only recognize one person on that list.

True and I actually know more than most other people around me!

I know who Vanilla Ice, Will Smith and RunDMC? are though so I'm not that bad off. I just thought I'd bring the perspective of an average person into the thread.

I respect Carnival's dedication to his music love. Impressive brother!

I need more "rapper A has no business being there" or "rapper A deserves to be on that list."

And there is no doubt this is pretty damn geeky. I geek about 2 things, wrestling and rap music.

Seeing this list makes me think you'd like the Dope MC Madness tournament over at the Death Valley Driver message board.

And how come Big Boi is 23 while Andre 3000 is 10?

Big Boi has great lyrics and clever word play of course. But where Andre beats him is Andre's ability to switch his style up. Big Boi seems to have the same flow and same tone on most of his verses.

Not surprisingly, I would complain that you didn't include the Beastie Boys in your list at all, but you're listing solo rappers, not groups, so I won't. Speaking of which, I would be interested in seeing who do you think are the greatest rap groups of all-time.

Personally, Quarashi is in my Top 10 greatest rap groups of all-time list, even though I'll be the first one to admit that they aren't the greatest, lyrically speaking. There's just something about their music that I really like. So much so that I can forgive them for their flaws.
