World's Worst Man

Since I'm just full of original ideas lately, I decided to steal another idea, this time from HTQ. You know the drill, give me some names of wrestlers or posters, and watch the carnage unfold.

Kevin Nash

Was never any good in the ring but he had a small bit of charisma, mostly related to his look. His ego is unbelievable considering he never drew flies as a solo act. Since his WWF days he's been incredibly lazy and selfish. He'll go down in history as a member of the successful NWO angle, but outside of that he won't be remembered for anything positive.

Shawn Michaels

Another selfish, egotistical human being. At least he was somewhat capable in the ring, even if he's laughably overrated by some. Some people truly believe he's one of the best of all time, when he's likely not even a top 100 guy. He's basically a parody of himself at this point.

Jim Herd

I only vaguely recall his antics, so I can't really say anything.

Eric Bischoff

I'm probably a bigger Bischoff fan than most because of how he showcased the CW division during WCW's heyday, which no mainstream US promotion has really done as good a job of since (well, TNA pushes their X-Division well, but the talent isn't even close to what WCW had). Unfortunately, he's also the one responsible for the inmates running the WCW asylum into the ground. If Bischoff hadn't been so buddy-buddy with some of those clowns, the promotion might still be around today.

Kurt Angle

The most overrated wrestler of all time. Good example of why people who aren't able to analyze wrestling shouldn't be talking about how good of a "worker" someone is. So a guy who yells and does a bunch of "cool", contrived, masturbatory spots gets praised as being a great worker, when he doesn't even know how to put together a 10+ minute match to save his life (and that's covering his selling/pacing/logical build problems).

Randy Orton

A pathetic human being that deserves nothing but the worst. He's passable in the ring, and is a decent smug prick heel though. I suspect he'll have to get his head screwed on properly to avoid big trouble somewhere down the road.

John Cena

Cena on the other hand, seems like a decent person. Unfortunately, he's absolutely horrible inside of a wrestling ring. His bumping looks fake, every move he uses looks like it wouldn't crack an egg and he often times seems clumsy. The guy clearly has charisma and is a great talker, but he'll be fucked over by the WWE until they just let him do his thing without him having to meticulously follow a script and being forced to be something he's not.

Osama Bin Laden

Him, and every muslim extremist should be exterminated from the human gene pool.

Bret Hart

Great, great worker. His ability to get a story over was almost unmatched, as his selling and body language was typically excellent. Great carrying ability which saw him carry Nash/UT/Yokozuna and others to the best matches of their career. Bret was probably my favourite wrestler from about 1992 until 1999. Concerning 11/97, I never thought Bret was really at fault, but I do sometimes wonder why it was so important that he had to carry such a vocal grudge for years.

Steve Austin

Good worker back in the day. I really liked his TV title run where he'd escape by the skin of his teeth every week. Shamelessly overrated for his 2001 work these days, which saw him involved in many an overbooked, sloppily executed brawl. Still gotta give the guy credit for making himself into the 2nd biggest draw in US pro wrestling. He certainly had a bit of help along the way, but most of his success was due to his own merits.

Shane Douglas

Raven

I really don't have much to say about these two. Neither were any good nor did I care.

MikeSC

His uncontrollable bias made it difficult to discuss certain subjects with him. He also insisted on trying to analyze in-ring wrestling when it didn't seem like he knew a whole lot about it. I probably wouldn't mind him at all if the first problem was taken care of.

Leena

She loves her attention. Truthfully, she seems like an alright chick in real life, who just uses these forums to fuck around. In terms of the wrestling forums, I mostly just want to have intelligent discussions on matches and workers, so I suspect we're in completely different worlds.

Jimmy Jacobs and The Ballad of Lacey

Haven't gotten this far in my sequential ROH viewing yet.

Er well, I guess that ties into some angle. I suppose it's creative at least.

Jimmy Jacobs and The Ballad of Lacey

Haven't gotten this far in my sequential ROH viewing yet.

Er well, I guess that ties into some angle. I suppose it's creative at least.

Well, it's a fairly standard storyline... Jimmy falls for Lacey while obvlivious to the fact Lacey doesn't care about Jimmy at all and has even mocked Jimmy right on camera with Jimmy in sight. So Jimmy nearly kills himself every week just for Lacey's heart and Lacey is cold and ruthless and ignores it or uses it for her own gain. The obvious blow off of Jimmy finally realizing that Lacey is using him will be huge.

Jimmy saved his spot in ROH with this video as Gabe was ready to cut him loose as he wanted to push Whitmer as a singles star against CZW. This was all Jimmy's doing. He went and produced the song, the video and set the angle up.

What I love about it is that, it's not the most original storyline (in fact it's an rather conventional one at that) but it's a modern twist to it with the lyrics

"Put me in your top 8 when you myspace me" "Together, there are no other candidates we're the match of the year"...It's a great tool to branch an old wrestling storyline into the new age of technology and I love the fact Gabe lets his workers create their own storylines, characters and even lets them produce footage for him.

In an era where creativity from wrestlers is frowned upon, you actually get to see wrestlers use their own heads for once.

Looks good if she's made up. Too bad it's not 10 years ago though.

Stephen Harper

I wonder what it feels like to be in power solely because the other guys screwed up and not because the people actually want you in power, and knowing you aren't all that qualified to have it.

George W. Bush

One of the worst leaders of the past 100 years. Proven idiot and liar. The fact that he got voted in for another term is an endless source of humour for me.

Lex Luger

He was passable in the late 80's-early 90's. Ever since, he was not even close.

Buff Bagwell

He too was ok once upon a time. But I guess he had no work ethic so he just started mailing it in once he became a bigger name.

Rick Steiner

He's probably closer to Scott in ability than anyone will care to admit, mostly because Scott didn't know how to pro-wrestle much at all. Rick was still the weaker link on a grossly overrated team.

Jerry Lynn

Lynn never did anything for me. He had some decent matches, but nothing spectacular. Kind of a dime-a-dozen worker.

He's another guy who doesn't do anything for me. Just a run of the mill wrestler with an "interesting" finisher. If not for that, I don't know if he'd stand out at all.

Batman (character)

I have a hard time buying super hero's that don't have any powers. Or did he get bit by a radioactive bat or something? I don't know, I'm a Marvel guy.

Batman (60s TV series)

Good fun as a kid when I was more interested in Batman. The parody on The Simpsons was fairly accurate. A lot of cheesy sound effects and DANCING~!. Still, it was a memorable show.

Batman (Burton film)

Probably the only Batman movie I'd actually call good. I tend to like the dark, gloomy enviroments, so I liked the movie quite a bit. The atmosphere and setting was just outstanding and Jack Nicholson as the Joker couldn't have been any more perect.

Batman Returns

A still ripe Michelle Pfeifer in the catwoman suit. Good times. I didn't like this much otherwise as The Penguin was kind of lame.

Batman Forever

I don't think I've ever actually seen this movie from start to finish.

Batman Begins

Haven't seen it.

Batman: The Animated Series

I never really watched this regularly, just an episode here and there. It was alright, I guess, but it didn't hold a candle to the X-Men show.

Mayor Adam West

He's a man who loves his taffy. Mmm. Unhhh..Ahhh...Mmmmmm. Best supporting character on the show.

Goldberg

Crummy worker who got over because he showed intensity and was properly pushed as a monster. Kind of in the Ultimate Warrior mold, but not as bad in the ring.

Brock Lesnar

Good worker once upon a time. Since coming back, he's been awful. And I mean awful. That's what laziness and not being interested in wrestling will do to a guy I guess, even one who had so much promise earlier in his career.

Sting

Sting was always capable in the ring and had quite a unique moveset for early 90's US wrestling. I like guys who are still good workers despite being incredibly over for other reasons. And Sting was really, really over in WCW, even before the crow gimmick.

Sid

He played a good psycho heel, but was not good as a face. In the ring, he may have been barely passable at best, but that wasn't often. He was a good guy to have around to stick in feuds with faces, but he wasn't going to be a top draw or carry the company.

Scott Norton

Norton was ok during the 90's when he was younger and in better shape. He had some fun power vs. power matches against guys like Vader, and was over enough in New Japan to have hot matches with the Muto's and Hashimoto's of the world. Right now he's awful, as his weight is up a bit and he doesn't move around well anymore.

Ultimate Warrior

Nothing new to say about him. Just like Goldberg, he was intense and got a great push, so he got over. Couldn't do much of anything in the ring. Fizzled out a bit when he was given the ball. Complete basketcase in modern times. I'd wager to say there's many guys who could have done what he did.

Ted DiBiase

Dibiase benefitted by being given a great gimmick, but I can't imagine anyone playing the character better than he did. It's like he was born to play the Million Dollar Man. And it went past just the character, as he was an awesome heel in the ring as well. That's the benefit of knowing how to wrestle on a fundamental level, and being able to do it well. Dibiase pretty much had it all, and it's almost criminal that he never got a run with the WWF title in the late 80's.

Curt Hennig

Most of what I said about Ted Dibiase also applies to Curt Henning. Although I'd say Henning was better in the ring. Another guy who had all the tools. Great bumping, great selling, tons of charisma, a completely convincing heel. They don't make them like Curt Henning anymore and it's a shame he died so young.

Terry Taylor

Haven't seen his best work.

Jeff Hardy

If the ability to execute a tope atomico meant anything, he might be good. Since it doesn't, Hardy didn't bring anything to the table outside of being over with the girls.

Justin Credible

Complete indifference.

Steve Corino

Best introduction in wrestling. Corino is a tremendously entertaining pro-wrestler. His in-ring ability is nothing special, but the guy has tons of charisma, cuts a good promo and plays an awesome heel. He'd be a perfect fit for a WWE-style company, yet the promotion is so retarded that he's the type of guy that would never even get a fair shot.

Low-Ki

Low-Ki is probably the definition of explosive. The guy is an athletic marvel in the ring. Great execution and very believable. Tends to be a bit spot happy at times though. Once he started having a bit of personality he really came full circle. I'm somewhat perplexed as to why he isn't being used better in NOAH, although I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be due to his well documented attitude problems.

Sean Morley

Criminally underutilized. Good worker, decent charisma. It's shameful how poorly he's been utlized. He'd be perfect for All Japan and I've long held out hope that he just cut all ties with the WWE and go somewhere where his talents would actually be appreciated.

Chris Benoit

Great worker back in the day. Crisp, believable offense, good, smart selling and a master at the slow build NJPW Junior style. These days his offensive strengths are totally gone, so I'd never call him great, but he's still very good, and has shown a complete understanding of US pro-wrestling story-telling. Unfortunately, he's now incredibly overrated, especially by a certain repugnant group of fans (the contrarian anti-smark idiots). Because of that, it's hard for me to really get into him.

Rey Mysterio

The last thing I said about Benoit also applies to Mysterio. Actually, the offense problem applies too. The difference is, I think Rey has always been overrated. He was athletically gifted and could certainly have good matches. But I haven't seen much truly great stuff from him. Today, he's one of the better WWE-style workers, probably only behind Benoit at this point.

Finlay

Hey look, it's another guy that's overrated. I think with Finlay, it comes because some vocal people seem to like stiffness and tough guy personas. There's no doubt he was a good brawler, as his selling and execution (in the context of a brawl) was topnotch. I haven't seen much to talk about during his comeback though. The PPV match with Benoit was so dime-a-dozen and so laughably overrated, and that pretty much sums up all of his comeback work. It's hard to consider him anything more than decent at this point.

Shelton Benjamin

I haven't seen any of him lately, but before..All he brought to the table was spots. And he usually blew 1 or 2 per match. That's a bad combination. He's overrated by the casual smarks, which probably isn't a big deal. He probably has no hope of becoming a decent worker going down the path he's on.

Bryan Danielson

Danielson has always been technically fabulous. It's only in the past year or so that he's consistently able to apply that technical ability in matches that have some sort of meaning. Meaning that in his earlier days, his matches were just straight up wrestling with little or no dramatics and passion (some exceptions obviously). But today, he's given a character and gimmick to run with, so his matches are quite a bit more well-rounded. Since his ROH title reign started, he's probably the best wrestler in North America. He pretty much has it all in the ring. All he's lacking is outside the ring charisma, which isn't a big deal to me, and wouldn't big a big deal in NJPW or NOAH, where I hope he ends up sometime in the future.

Austin Aries

Aries showed a lot of promise when he broke out in 2004, being involved in some really good multi-man tags, along with the 2 excellent Danielson matches. Since losing the world title, he's been somewhat stagnant I think. He's pretty much plateaued as a wrestler without reaching the heights one would have expected for him. I still think he's a decent-good worker, but he needs to pick up his game.

Alex Shelley

Shelley is a tremendously funny worker. His mannerisms and body language are top notch and he has a good idea of how to work a crowd. His wrestling sometimes tends to get on the "play wrestling" side of things, that is to say the technical portions of his match look somewhat forced and unnatural. I think that's more of a mental issue as opposed to him just not knowing how to work naturally. With his charisma, he has no need to wrestle that way. Even if he's not Bryan Danielson, he doesn't have to be, so there's no need to force anything.

Christopher Daniels

The more I watch and think about Daniels, the more I dislike him. He seems to wrestle in a homogenized and sterile way. Everything seems unnatural and forced, even the passion and dramatics. He's a smart, capable worker, but I think he tries too hard to be great. That means he ends up not even being good.
