I don't know how reliable WrestlingDotCom is (and I know this isn't really WWE related, but I figure it's the most read wrestling folder, and he used to be in WWE).

From http://www.wrestlingdotcom.com/news/60315849.php

Yokohama, JAPAN (AR) - The professional wrestling world was shocked and saddened by the news of the loss of Leon White, 46, known to fans all over the world as Big Van Vader, to an apparent steroid and alcohol overdose.

"We think he overdid himself and took too many pills. Drugs and alcohol just don't mix", said inspecting investigator Cheng. At this point they are not suspecting any foul-play.

White was a collegiate athlete, spending most of his time on the football field. He made his professional wrestling debut under the name "Baby Bull" in the now defunct American Wrestling Association. His rise to fame and popularity came with his move to All Japan Pro Wrestling, where he officially took the name "Big Van Vader"

White had success in World championship wrestling, becoming it's World Champion on three separate occassions. White has been inactive in the United States since his brief stint with then World Wrestling Federation in 1997. White had been wrestling in Japan, until he made an appearance at the Febuary 19 show for The National Wrestling Alliance.

White was found early yesterday morning while on tour in Japan. "There were bottles." said Cheng. "We believe them to be anabolic steroids." White is just the latest in a string of wrestling deaths which included either drugs, steroids or a deadly combination of the two. White was born June 10th, 1957 and leaves behind a wife of twenty two years, Leah and two sons Luke and John. Leon White was 46.

I currently don't know what to make of all this, and am personally waiting for Scherer or Meltzer to confirm this.

Shit. How many drug related deaths have there been in the last couple years? Way too many.

Well, I'm truly saddened to hear about this.

I hope this is a WAKE UP call, but I know that there will just be more and more of these deaths taking the wrestlers we loved in the 80's away from us.

I hope this is not true. He was a TRUE legend, and will be missed.

It's True.

Truthfully...I don't even care.

I'm just fucking sick and god damn tired of this shit.

Look, I loved watching him wrestle and he always put on a show but I've lost all my sympathy for this crap after Curt.

Let me tell you this.

IT IS NOT TRUE.

Vader is 47. Not 46.

His birthdate is May 14, 1956

How does that prove anything? A little mix up like that happens alot.

Hope it isn't true.... and I'll wait for confirmation before I believe anything.

But Anyway, Vader was one of the most talented "Big Men" ever in wrestling, And I'm saddened to hear of his passing if it's true R.I.P.

Getting someone's birthage wrong doesn't prove it...

It hope it;s not true but I stopped wishing for it to be a false story with these roids crap...

That's a poorly written article.

If it is true someone should be fired.

I agree with Choken. If it is true he brought it upon himself just like Hennig and the rest of them did. These guys know the effects of drugs, so they have no excuse. Quite frankly, when someone is that self-destructive and careless, it's kind of hard to feel badly for them.

I think this is fake. What the fuck is AR? It sounds like a bogus news source and some of the comments don't sound like they would really be said.

I love how the inspecting investigator goes under a one word name. Like Madonna or Cher. Now we can add Cheng to the list.

Since it is apparently an article by a Japanese news agency it could also just be a poor translation.

Man, has anyone reliable confirmed this??

Well the initial post on the newsboard was made over 2 hours ago and nobody else has confirmed it yet...

AR could be a mistranslation of AP.

Or the result of moronic B-Site news reporter.

I hope this isn't true. The problem with it is that it says the PW world was shocked at it. Nobody even KNOWS of it yet, so how can we be shocked?

I alrerted Dave Meltzer to look into the matter.

I notified Kris Kringle and the CIA as well.
