    OaO 7/16 Raw Thread

I don't know why but that just seemed like a very odd match. I don't know if it was because their styles didn't match or what but a few times it almost seemed like Kennedy was trying to make Crazy look bad. Considering kennedy went from money in the bank winner/soon to be world champion to losing a few matches in a row after his injury and feuding with super crazy, it makes me wonder. cool finish though

For a split second there I thought regal was a fan running in. What an odd pairing with hacksaw and sandman. But man..they need to keep sandman wrestling in gimmick matches because he is just boring to watch without the weapons.

I don't mind the "who's going to win" thing but man the graphics of cena and lashley over and over are annoying. and what the hell was foley wearing? looks like he's been hanging out with pre-abdullah the butcher vicera

Yep. Man...talk about a lose lose as far as I'm concerned. Cena as champ is about as stale as 20 year old bread. Bobby "the roid king" lashley is even worse. Just damn.

My thoughts exactly. God forbid there actually be matches longer than 5 minutes. God I really despise Mcmahon sometimes.

Lashley must have a ratio of 15 to 1... seriously though, the fact lashley has not been suspended should be a screaming signal that something isn't right with the testing or how wwe handles negative results.

WWE General Discussion for July 2007

It's crystal clear he'll be a face. If he's leaving his beloved RAW brand, going after Edge, he'll surely be the opposite disposition to him. I'm sure he will be a face when he returns, especially after the news that he wanted kennedy on raw because there weren't enough strong heels. However, on a couple of those pieces about his return, it almost seemed like they were pushing the idea of him being a heel. I guess it was the fact that most of the guys that they shown him beating up on were faces but the general feel of it was heelish too. Or maybe it was just me.

Interesting Mark Henry article, especially the bolded part. As noted by scherer, I wonder what the wwe thinks of that quote. Keeping it real Wrestler tired of drugs and their effect on his peers, his sport. By John Maher AMERICAN-STATESMAN Saturday, July 14, 2007 Professional wrestler Mark Henry, all 390 pounds of him, is used to drawing stares. Even people who haven't seen him perform at an arena or on television can't help but notice his vending-machine build or the Hummer he drives, the one he received for winning a 2002 strongman competition promoted by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Lately, though, Henry said, "I've been getting dirty looks from people. I was talking to this guy at the airport and he said, 'You guys are all getting exposed.' When people make generalizations about me they're usually wrong. I don't do drugs. I'm not some animal. I'm not some Neanderthal." Laura Skelding AMERICAN-STATESMAN (enlarge photo) Family man: Pro wrestler Mark Henry (with his wife, Jana Perry-Henry, and their son Jacob, 21 months) says he sticks to himself to avoid being linked to drug users. Laura Skelding AMERICAN-STATESMAN (enlarge photo) Mark Henry, with son Jacob, says he will never forget the death of fellow wrestler Chris Benoit and Benoit's family last month. 'The thing is, no one saw it coming,' Henry said. 'This is never going to leave me. I'll be on my deathbed and still thinking about it.' Henry is dealing with the shock and grief stemming from the recent death of WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, whom police said killed his wife and 7-year-old son before committing suicide in the family's Georgia home. In the wake of the tragedy, wrestling's excesses, including steroid use, are again coming under fire from critics, some of whom have called for a Congressional investigation of the business. The 36-year-old Henry, an Austin resident who's been a wrestler for more than a decade, also has to grapple with trying to lead a normal life in a surreal world. "The travel alone would kill most people. We might do 250 shows a year," he said. Henry doesn't ride with other wrestlers to any World Wrestling Entertainment matches. A husband and father of a 21-month-old son, Henry said one reason he drives solo is for safety, that he has less chance of getting in an accident that might cause an injury that could affect his career. The other reason, he said, is that he doesn't want to be in a car if recreational or performance-enhancing drugs belonging to another wrestler are discovered by law enforcement officials. "If they get caught, then I'd be (considered) guilty, too. If we get pulled over we're both going down," Henry said. Henry said of the 75 wrestlers he works with, he's close friends with maybe five or six. He said that's pretty typical in the business, because wrestlers are independent contractors. One of the reasons Henry, a two-time Olympic weightlifter, is still in wrestling is Benoit. At a show 31/2 years ago, Benoit slapped a cross-face hold on Henry and dislocated Henry's already injured shoulder, knocking him out of action and raising his doubts about whether to continue in his line of work. "Chris Benoit is the one who kept me going. He's the one who would call and say, 'You have to come back.' He didn't have to do that," Henry said. Henry was at a WWE event in Beaumont on Saturday, June 24, when Benoit didn't show. "Then, when he didn't show up for the pay-per-view-event in Houston," Henry said, "we're thinking, 'Darn, he never misses a show.' " On Monday, June 26, the WWE live event in Corpus Christi was canceled because of the Benoit family deaths, but at that time Henry said the wrestlers thought the killings might have been the result of a home invasion. Authorities, however, said Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, and their son, Daniel, before hanging himself from a pulley on a weight machine. "How he did what he did ... ," Henry said, shaking his head. "We were torn up. The thing is, no one saw it coming. This is never going to leave me. I'll be on my deathbed and still thinking about it." A longtime, vocal critic of steroid use Authorities said they found anabolic steroids at Benoit's home, and Benoit's doctor, Phil Astin, has since been charged with improperly prescribing painkillers and other drugs. World Wrestling Entertainment was quick to issue a statement that said "roid rage" was not a factor in the deaths. "WWE strongly suggests that it is entirely wrong for speculators to suggest that steroids had anything to do with these senseless acts, especially when the authorities plainly stated there is no evidence that Benoit had steroids in his body, pending the toxicological reports, and that they had no evidence at this time to the motive for these acts," the statement read. Henry has long been vocal about the problems tied to steroids. Growing up in Silsbee, he was a weightlifting prodigy as a teenager and has long had an extraordinary build. The 6-foot-3-inch Henry has a 24-inch neck and biceps, and his ring size is 18. He has set powerlifting records and also represented the United States in weightlifting at the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics. "My whole life I competed against people who used steroids," said Henry, who as an Olympian was subject to frequent drug testing, including nine tests in 1995 alone. He's still chafed about an "HBO Real Sports" segment he did in 1996 because he contends host Bryant Gumbel made him sound like a crybaby for bringing up the performance-enhancing drug use of other weightlifters. Henry now points to the steroid scandals that have hit some Olympic sports and Major League Baseball as evidence he knew what he was talking about back then. As much as he has spoken out against steroid use, Henry didn't point to 'roid rage as a simple answer for the Benoit deaths. "Steroids may contribute, but there are bodybuilders who have taken a lot more," Henry said. Painkillers also are abused by some wrestlers and have sometimes been linked to their deaths. Bobby Duncum, a former University of Texas football player and a wrestler, died in 2000 at age 34 after overdosing on a painkiller while attempting to cope with injuries. Henry has not been immune from injury despite his size. Probably his most serious wrestling injury happened last July when, in a six-man tag team event, he tore his patella tendon and split his kneecap in two. After surgery Henry did not wrestle in another WWE bout until May, but he said that painkillers don't have to become a part of performing. "It's just sucking it up and going," Henry said. Although he once wrestled as Sexual Chocolate, Henry's weakness is barbecue. When he can, he likes to go to Lockhart or Taylor for brisket and sausage. Henry, who has studied acting and would like to have a career in that field when he's done wrestling, is also big on martial arts films. As for fame, he said the weirdest thing is that strangers will just walk up and punch him in the ribs or slap him on the chest — hard — as if they are some kind of long-lost friend. "I'm not some big, jovial fat guy," Henry warned. "Don't hit me."

Here is the transcript of Finlay on Nancy "the bitch" Grace's show. I would copy/paste it but its rather long. Scroll down about a quarter of the way down to find the start of finlay on the show. Hopefully someone will finally post it on Youtube. I have yet to see it. http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0707/13/ng.01.html

Bobby Lashley - Is he underrated?

EXACTLY. Perfectly said. Real talent like shelton bengamin become nothing more than glorified jobbers while lashley gets monster pushes for one reason and one reason only, his size (who also is obviously the most roided up guy on the roster). Even in a none wrestling capacity, Shelton is about a hundred times more entertaining than Lashley.

    Smackdown Spoilers

I just saw it. The whole "Michelle McCool is in love with life" thing screams "Michelle McCool...NOT ON STEROIDS AND WON'T KILL YOU!" Looks like a feminine hygiene ad to me........ I'd just like to point out that Victoria is pretty hot......maybe it's just me. Those vignettes are really corny, pointless, and annoying. I mean "I can feel the bumps on the ground!" WTF? Victoria is always hot...and under used/appreciated. It amazes me that torrie wilson is not only still around after all this time but gets wins over someone like Victoria.

I find that hard to believe considering he often gets the least amount of pop when another face is around....matter of fact he often doesn't get much pop at all. Some yes but nothing special. I'd have to see some decent proof to believe that over a long period of time. The lashley/mcmahon fued could have had more to do with mcmahon and not lashley. Likewise with the constant talk of steroids these last few weeks, its hard for me to believe that a program that is centered around the most roided up guy on the roster who shows little charisma, ring skills, and his horrible on the mic, would not see some negative feedback. If he does somehow draw....man that is just fucking depressing.

WWE General Discussion for July 2007

Well, it is no longer the top rated show on USA Network if it stays in the mid to upper 3 range. That honor would currently go to Burn Notice (3.9 back to back weeks). That's right, Bruce Campbell and Jeffrey Donovan have overpowered RAW. I'm not surprised. It's an excellent show. Very much so. And I didn't realize RAW dropped to a 3.3/3.4 this week. Damn, that's gotta sting. I really cannot explain that much of a drop considering the Home Run Derby was rather lousy at the start and Larry King Live didn't do a good number at all. I guess Cena might have a pretty big case that he is the major ratings draw in the WWE. I figured he was a solid one but damn, the first RAW without him in a while and the rating plummeted. Or it could be the fact the show overall hasn't exactly been on fire for quite some time (no the mcmahon bullshit doesn't count) and they are pushing the steroid monster lashley down our fucking throats the entire show even though no one really cares about him.

Thanks for shining the light on the obvious Dan "the Genius" Abrams. I'm sure you all have experienced this countless times as I have, but non wrestling fans seem to universally think we all don't know its scripted. They honestly think they are telling us something we don't know. Sometimes it amuses me but most of the time it just irritates the hell out of me. My usual response is thanks McFly...btw, you do know movies aren't real either right?

this could be interesting, not sure how finlaydoes in out of character interviews I don't know about the rest of you but I am getting tired of seeing Mero on all the time. He has said the same thing over and over about a hundred times now. What more can he say that he hasn't already said? from pwi I've gotten word from one source that Dave Finlay will be a guest on Friday's edition of Nancy Grace's show on CNN Headline News, but haven't been able to independently confirm that. Marc Mero is booked to appear on that show. Mero will be also be appearing on Dan Abrams' show tonight on MSNBC.

    Why isn't TNA getting it?

My main gripes have probably been mentioned over and over but One of the biggest turnoffs for me with TNA is the announce team. They are without a doubt the most annoying two I have ever seen. I used to like Tenay back in the day but with tna he is absolutely horrible. And west or whatever his name is screaming at the top of his lungs about everything with that raspity ass voice of his is like fingers on a chalk board. Its truly unbearable to me to even listen to those two. 2nd biggest turn off is the style of the wrestling. Its way too fast paced. It looks more "fake" I guess because of how much they have to rush things. They need to slow down...a lot for me to ever like it. and please God let them get out of that same place they tape their shows every week. It just is so corny looking and screams "small time".

    Mark Henry's "Silverback" Gimmick/Nickname

Well considering the word ho is now considered as bad as the N word in some circles (al sharpton for example), I'd guess its a safe bet that certain individuals would consider it racist/demeaning. I get a chuckle out of jbl/cole repeatedly saying he is "the self proclaimed silverback"..an obvious attempt to keep criticism down.

This could be ugly indeed but I'm looking forward to it. IF orielly comes prepared and asks her some really tough questions, I'd really like to see how she answers them. She is either brave...or stupid because no matter what she is not going to look good. She would have served herself much better if she went on Abram's show imo. Considering the temper of Vince though, that would be some good TV if he went on there. Several weeks ago, Orielly and Geraldo almost seem to come to blows on that show over illegal immigration. Orielly was screaming so loud you could literally hear him on Geraldo's microphone. It seemed really close to getting out of hand. So Mcmahon losing his temper on there would no doubt lead to some interesting things.
