I thought this was interesting from Keller last night -The Jeff Jarrett segment really accentuated how screwed up and distasteful the entire Mr. McMahon death storyline has been this past week. That was a touching segment, and the fact that Jarrett bowed out of the main event in real life because he's just not ready to return to the ring yet really is a credit to him. With this, he insulates himself from the criticism of capitalizing on his wife's death to get a babyface pop - and no matter carefully the situation had been handled if he came back and won under those circumstances, that would be a cloud over it. The video package with Jeff talking about Jill was very well put together. Jeff really put himself out there as a human being and it didn't come across as a babyface promotional video. I don't get the feeling that getting himself over was on his mind when recording that promo. Maybe I'm just desperate this week to have faith in someone after the despicable display by Vince McMahon and those with the power to stand up and say "No!!!" to the things they did on TV this week that have disgusted me as much as anything I've ever seen in wrestling. -It's sad that because of Vince McMahon, some people are going to think Jarrett never had a wife Jill who really died.

Nope. More people watch Smackdown, by far. Remember, Raw is only available on cable, while Smackdown is broadcasted on free tv. why are they 1 to 2 ratings points less than Raw every week if that is the case? Because those numbers don't represent the same amount of people. In other words, 1 point on broadcast television represents more people than one point on cable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nielsen_Ratings As to the question of how they do it, the relevant portion is this "Measuring Rratings Nielsen Television Ratings are gathered by one of two ways; by extensive use of surveys, where viewers of various demographics are asked to keep a written record (called a diary) of the television programming they watch throughout the day and evening, or by the use of Set Meters, which are small devices connected to every television in selected homes. These devices gather the viewing habits of the home and transmit the information nightly to Nielsen through a "Home Unit" connected to a phone line. Set Meter information allows market researchers to study television viewing habits on a minute to minute basis, seeing the exact moment viewers change channels or turn off their TV. In addition to this technology, the implementation of individual viewer reporting devices (called People meters) allow the company to separate household viewing information into various demographic groups. In 2005, Nielsen began measuring the usage of digital video recordings (TiVo, for example) and initial results indicate that time-shifted viewing will have a significant impact on television ratings. The networks are not yet figuring these new results into their ad rates at the resistance of advertisers.[2]"

I'm still disgusted Benoit has been put on that worthless show that is ecw....meanwhile we have someone like lashley who is limited in the ring, is not really over considering the massive push he has been getting since before wrestlemania, and who's mic skills suck balls, will continue to be shoved down our throats on raw. Yet the latter is the reason that is always given for why benoit never gets main event pushes. There is no justice. on the bright side, I'm looking forward to seeing some Victoria and Mccool matches. Maybe since they will be on smackdown and not raw, they will be given some more time. I think it could be really good.

I wonder how much longer until she finally makes it on tv. I suppose they have dropped the idea of her playing the part of a man.
-
Would you like them to do an hour tribute to someone who hasn't appeared on TV on a regular basis and years who most of the fans wouldn't even know who she was........ I think some people need to get a quick grasp on reality and what's fake on TV..........it never ceases to amaze me how many people who consider themselves smart fans still act like wrestling has this real grasp to it so anytime they do a storyline regular TV show type storyline it always becomes distasteful and awful.........light up. It's sad she died, I remember watching her growing up, RIP to her but her death shouldn't be used in some way to discredit the WWE because that is bush league. And it never ceases to amaze me there are people like you who come on here and act like you are sooooo much smarter than everyone else by telling us its all a storyline, as if we didn't already know that. It shouldn't be about if she has recently been on tv or not. It shouldn't be about whether new fans have a clue who she is. Class and appreciation for the person she was and what she meant to many, should be the priority. The ten bell salute should be only reserved for real deaths and not something along the lines of yet another overdone mcmahon storyline. No I wouldnt or want an "hour dedicated to her" but when someone who is REAL dies, who had a big impact in wrestling and is well known by many fans, is ignored in light of a fictional and total BS storyline that is made for nothing except to stroke mcmahons ego, that is BS. Watching smackdown right now is honestly making me sick watching cole and jbl having to tell us all what a great guy he is and acting all sad, especially in light of the fact she passed away. And not so much as a "in memory of" at the beginning. Not sure if they would have had time to edit that in but then again even if they did, considering the gravity of mcmahons ego stroking, I suppose even if they did have time, they wouldn't. God knows the storyline death of mcmahon is more important than the death of a real person.

You are probably right and it's sad that its looked at that way.
-
Just damn. It's always so depressing to see someone so young associated with the wrestling business pass on. Does anyone have any idea why she died? Did she have cancer or something because its not everyday average weight 49 year old women die. I always enjoyed her as there has never been anyone quite like her. Well to everyone who made the comment that it would look really bad if someone actually did pass away during this stupid mcmahon death angle, you were 100% right. Im guessing that more time will be spent on this idiotic fake death storyline than actually paying tribute to someone who was really respected and loved by many in the industry and was such a big part of the business. I hope I'm proven wrong. A sad day for the wrestling world, no doubt about it.

Mr. McMahon "dead" - Now for the "whodunit" angle.

My guess, as i noted in the raw thread, is that eventually mcmahon will come out and say he staged it all for some reason or another. If they follow completely through with the who done it angle, then short of mcmahon looking like a roasted hotdog, its not going to be believable (not that it is believable in the least anyway). But if they are going to actually try to give someone a push by trying to murder him, vince can't come out of the explosion with no scars. And i just dont think vince would want to have to put on tons of makeup or whatever they use to make someone appear to be burned, every single time for the rest of his days on TV. Nevermind the fact who ever it "really was" would be arrested. So for that reason, i think after a long absence, he is going to admit he staged it. -
BTW, according to caldwell on the torch page he wrote "Suddenly, the limo burst into flames and there were sounds of a struggle in the back of the limo, but we didn't see McMahon appear. They faded to black with the flames continuing to whip into the air. And we have a suicide on the wrestling program tonight." I didn't hear any sounds of a struggle, just saw a delay by mcmahon to get into the vehicle. If thats the case (Although he says its a suicide) i guess we will have the hunt for Mcmahons killer...lol

I can't believe they went through with this and actually are treating it as an actual event on wwe.com. lmao...just when you thought wrestling couldn't get more absurd than some 80 or 90 year old women barking like dogs in night gowns, they pull this in the same show. Have to hand it to him though, I'm sure people will talk about it. What I see happening is that he dissappears for a long time then comes back and admits it was just a staged event so he can gather his thoughts with dignity or some such nonsense.
-
i knew that was going to happen. i actually said to myself watch it blow up. stupid as hell i wish we had a close up of mickie james though. damn what an outfit she was wearing

Supplemental draft. I will say I'm surprised Punk's not going anywhere, but I suppose once they decided on Lashley going to RAW they can have a respect feud between Punk and Benoit for the ECW title (hopes against hope). hopefully punk goes to smackdown on wednesday
-
LOL At JBL going nuts with the Flair pick... "hot diggity damn dog!"...jbl rules
-
LMFAO If there is anything good about this crap of benoit going to the minor leagues, he should be champ. But the fact that lashley is on raw, which means we are stuck with more of his boring promos and boring matches on the A show, while Benoit for all his hard work and dedication gets to go back to the minors...just leaves an awful taste in my mouth
-
well thats just wonderful...yuck
-
throat cancer. sad to see him look so rough
-
I half expected to hear a bleep or a slip up by shiek after watching a lot of those crazy drunk ramblings of his on youtube.
-
lol oh the irony of the wwe's trying to get better advertisers then they put on the dumbest thing we have seen since the birth of the hand. I don't know which is worse, those two going along with it or someone actually thinking that them barking for over a minute would be funny. 5 seconds would be more than enough but honestly, are the writers retarded?
-
I wonder how vince feels seeing his little project get booed over someone who really is never pushed anymore. I was really hoping to see Benoit go to raw. unless they send another big name or two, benoit is going to be a big fish in a little pond filled with minnows. It just seems disrespectful to the Nth degree for him to go there. And despite the wrestling god that is benoit, he barely was able to pull a passable match with lashley. god im so sick of lashley
-
Its nice to see the fans on the side of Benoit
-
Considering I'm not a fan of the big stiff that is Lashley, god I hope Benoit wins this...but alas that would screw with Mcmahons failed attempt to make Lashley the next big thing. sigh...damn it.
-
Apperantly you are not alone. [sarcasm]I mean did you just hear the excitement when he announced him wanting to be apart of the ppv? [/sarcasm] Really long and boring segment
-
I would enjoy him back at the announce booth.
-
It was surprising how loud of a pop he got from the ecw crowd. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_v9VkaMdOI

WWE General Discussion for June 2007
Perfection replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
I absolutely love this idea. It makes sense on several levels and would no doubt get some huge heat from the crowd.
